The Aurora Borealis?

At this time of year?

At this time of day?

In this part of the country?

Localized entirely within your kitchen?

Chalmers: What's that say under your hand there?
Skinner: Oh, it's an unrelated article.
Chalmers: An unrelated article?
Skinner: Hm.
Chalmers: Under the banner headline.
Skinner: Yes

How come nearly everyone is fat in Simpsons? Only Ned, McBane's artist, and Pyro/Gyro are fit.

Hmm looks familiar, what episode is this?

Huh. That's odd. Mr. Smithers left his jacket behind...

Whoa, that's odd. Principal Skinner left his mother behind...

..That's odd. Where's Homer? And Bart? And Lisa? And Grampa?

How many of you actually watched this special the night it premiered back in 1989? I was.

26.7 million people caught the original airing of Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire.
As a contrast, last week's underwhelming Christmas ep from Season 25 only had 8.38 million viewers (which was still a record high for this year).

I did. I was there when it started. Remember when it was on Thursdays? Thursdays! The Simpsons used to be up against Big Bang Theory! Good thing they moved it to Sundays where there's nothing else on else it might not have survived!
lol

I was there when it started too, on Thursday. People said they were insane for putting it up against The Cosby Show, it could never survive.

Technically, The Simpsons actually DID start on Sundays.
Both during its initial Tracey Ullman show run and then throughout the entirety of Season 1.
It was the lead-in for Married... With Children.

After building an audience, it was switched to Thursdays for Seasons 2 through 5 and its much-hyped run against The Cosby Show.

It then reverted back to Sundays and rooted itself in its current 8pm timeslot starting in Season 6 after FOX won the rights to air the NFL.

We didn't start watching The Simpsons until we moved from Germany to Nebraska in May 1991.

Thursdays was a pain because we had Awana (essentially a church activity group for children) on Thursday, and we would never get home in time to watch The Simpsons. Fortunately, we eventually stopped going, and during the credits of one episode, Bart would come on and tell us that new episodes would be moving from Thursday to Sunday.

A local network is airing "The Latest Gun in the West". The opening act has got to be one of the dumbest things the show has ever done.

Five minutes of a vicious dog chasing Bart.

Seriously.

I have fond memories of the entire family watching The SImpson's on Thursdays, including my dad who always made disparaging comments but like clockwork, always there with us.

I'm watching a documentary called Kill It, Cook It, Eat It. Basically showcasing what Jimmy (Billy?) went through when he visited Bovine University.

Thank you Bill Cosby, you saved The Simpsons!

See, I happen to like that episode ('cause I'm one of those mutants that likes the later seasons) due to the strength of the guest star - the whole vicious dog thing goes on a bit long sure, but I don't mind as much - especially since they don't drop the whole thing after the first act.

I watched this episode yesterday, it's just me or the whole art style looked different to previous, and upcoming, seasons?
That episode ("Radioactive Man") was an experiment as it was colored digitally instead of on cels. They'll later do it again with "Tennis The Menace" in season 12, and starting with "The Great Elouse Detective" in season 14, the series will always be colored digitally.
