When I visited SF last week, I saw parades of cars/trucks supporting Gaza with flags and music. Random people on the street also seemed to be very supportive of Palestine. You'd think Palestine was the DNC with the amount of support.

Sure, but there was a time when all discussion was permitted. All topics. Seems weird you can't talk about those things even in the Off-topic.

I suspect moderating them is a nightmare, and you don't want to be visibility hosting discussions that have racism, anti-Semitic views etc etc so it's not just like you can ignore them.

I'm glad I can come here and get away from it all.
 
The discussion in the other place is what you'd expect. Emotional, irrational, one-sided, and completely unproductive. Maybe mods could allow one thread about this conflict with a little bit of politics in it?

I don't think you can just have a little bit of politics in such a thread. The issue has massive political ramifications and then some. Anyway, guess it's okay and there's always other places to discuss such things.
 
An Israel Palestine thread wouldn't last an hour without a fight breaking out. It's absolutely impossible for anyone to discuss calmly or rationally. It's the presidential election on steroids.
 
Really not that complicated of an issue if people took off their blinders and looked at a 70 year history.
It's like saying what european settlers did to native americans is complicated.
