Wow, this was really bloody good!
They made vampires scary again finally after all this twilight/trueblood/vampirediaries fairyness.

This genre isn't really my thing, but I watched and thought it was pretty solid. I'll probably be in the for the next few at least.

I already wish the show was just David Bradley does battle against ancient vampires though!

I may give the second episode another shot, but man it was hard to watch. Where is the Guillermo Del Toro that made El Orfanato and Pan's Labyrinth? Where did all the super cheesy stuff come from? Is he trying to recreate 80's style horror in some way? Because that may've been cheesy, but that was acceptable back then and it had a certain charm to it. Not now. Not in fucking 2014.

Jesus christ, man.

This was super cornball and cheesy to the max. Dialogue was terrible.

Probably going to keep guilty pleasure watching this.

Yeah, it's definitely high in the cheese factor and stupid characters and it seems to know it's pure cheese, which is vitally important for a show like this.

Will stick it out for the series.

This was fairly mediocre, though I'll watch a few more episodes. It seems like FX is 0 for 2 with new shows this summer.

Now I'm really worried that Tyrant and The Strain are the first indications of FX going completely off the rails.

This is Cronos and Mimic GDT, and I love it!

Loved the first episode! Yeah, some of the acting and dialogue was pretty bad but I don't mind a little cheese in my horror shows. The vampire/monster whatever from coffin was pretty awesome looking. Looking forward to seeing more.

This had all the problems of Del Toro movies.
Interesting plot, premise & monsters, terrible acting.

Enjoyed the hell out of the plot, but the actors were hammy as shit.
Definitely not as interesting as the vampires/effects.

Uhh Alien parasite? Alien virus? With a title like The Strain the last thing I would think of would be vampires.

That's a good sign actually!

Unrelated, but can I just say how awesome the creepy dead girl live doll was that Goodweather examined on the plane? For a second I was saying "Props to the kid for being able to keep her eyes open so long" before I realized my mistake.

Just watched it. I quite enjoyed it. Love the premise, setting and atmosphere. Plus the creature is pretty fucking cool. Did not expect such a violent death for the dudebro.

On the other side of the coin the writing is fucking atrocious and 99% of the characters insufferable. I don't mind Abraham Not-Van-Helsing but good lord Share the Load was horrific in this.

Will definitely stick with it though. More positives than negatives.

I'm totally bummed they
offed the Wishmaster like that in the first episode. You don't just snuff a Djinn and wipe your hands of him.

Well, the plot was decent enough. I like the premise and it has some cool moments here and there. On the other hand, dear God the dialogue is fucking terrible and the acting is not much better. It's cheesy as hell, and it's not even really the fun kind of cheesy. It just seems inept. The suspense can be alright, but wow. Not a great start.

It felt way too early to be showing monsters. I think it would attract a larger audience if it stayed more plausible with a traditional virus outbreak and slowly teased the more far fetched stuff.

Also, it seemed like a glorified CSI at times with all the technical jargon.

I'm really interested in this threads reaction when they do the big info dump episode.

Giant info dumps work in books, but I'm wondering how they will do it here.

If they weren't showing monsters I'd probably have dropped the whole thing before the pilot even concluded; the crazy vampire stuff is pretty much all that's holding my interest at this point. God help this show if it had to depend entirely on the characters and the dialogue as they focused on what appeared to be a normal outbreak.

I think your reaction is definitely part of the reason why they pushed the vampires out in the forefront as early as they did, GMN - not that it's an inappropriate reaction. TV pilots should hook you, and if this pilot hooked you despite the misgivings you have in other areas of the show, it did it's job.

Personally I loved the slow crawl to the vampire revelation in the books, but I can see how making half of the first season a dry forensic mystery would turn off potential viewers.

ABANDON THREAD

Scene #2.
Total gridlock on "33rd Street" in "Astoria" (with a Brooklyn Museum of Astronomy??? sign on the lamp post).
Thats enough for me to check out of this show.

That's a post apocalyptic show with "walking dead" right in the title.

This is set in what is supposed to be a plausible reality, at least based on how much sciencey sounding stuff they said in the beginning, with a title that sounds like a thriller.

Showing the master doesn't spoil anything because this ep was only the tip of the iceberg. The master is really smart and a sadistic badass.

Huh. Just noticed the younger brother Latino dude who tries to rob the old pawn broker is the chubby kid who starred with Shaq in Kazaam.

If they get their proposed five seasons (and they might), and season two is supposed to end on book two's cliffhanger, a few thoughts spring into my mind:

Are they going to be killing off Kelly as early as this season? And if so, is she really just going to be Ghost Mom for the rest of the show? Are they going to kill off Palmer and Fitzwilliams? Setrakian?

I don't either ... some people take this stuff way too seriously ...

i dunno about that. the only guy who was 'cheesy' was the vato. who was pretty hilarious.

american horror story is cheesy. this is just...boring. i've noticed del toro has been in a big downward spiral since pan's labyrinth though. his scripts/drama are getting worse with every project.

it's cool that y'all enjoying it. especially fans of the books tho. but yeah i don't think i'll continue with this.

And the Latino guy doing the bill grabbing was Weevil from Veronica Mars...

I don't know. I really enjoyed the premiere. I don't have a history with the book though.

I like the pilot it feels like a mini movie, and i'm interested at its premise

But
Lots of cringe worthy dialogue.
-Cliche husband trying to fix his family.
-Old man in the pawn shop knowing it is The
Plane cuz its from Berlin n stopped unexpectedly. (Could have been better if he heard the 200+ people dead).
-banger and german guy exchange
