Haha, yeah. I remember one session I played with my co-op buddy. We were in a 2-seater, him piloting and me being rear gunner. We just spent a couple of minutes flying to the mission. I think we died because I was reading a book or playing DS.

That's all you ever did as the rear gunner mr.'yeah yeah I got our back oh wait the tail is on fire' so you can shut the crap up.

Still, that is a lesson that Birds/Wings of Prey seems to have taken on board so maybe we'll see it here too, despite being 'less console'.

Not the sim for you i guess.

Have so many found memories of the original IL2 Sturmovik. Offline and online play was real good. I remember we used some kind of client to find games ( it worked for other flight sims too ).

On line i remember attack / defend missions organized on il2sturmovik forums, attackers organized in bomber and fighter formations with fixed objectives and defenders with fighters only of course.

That was great, good times. With this new Oleg's sim i guess ill use my saitek again after a long time.

I find the name change baffling, it's been known as Storm of War for years and I'd imagine the Il-2 name has little pull outside of the community that's played it for 9 years. Surely they'd have been better off leaving it as Storm of War?

Given what they're talking about around expanding it, it would have made more sense to have pushed Storm of War as the umbrella, and then all the associated theatres as the sub heading? Makes it seem a little like an expansion pack at first glance of the name.

On the other hand, hey they can abbreviate it to CoD for maximum confusion! "Oh you want CoD? Here you go"

I hope they have a lot difficulty options so console fans don't suck wind, but I hope the campaign missions are nice and long and realistic.

I don't think it makes sense to have the entire thread be a discussion about the issue or the ethics or whatever, but I do think it's important to clarify it because it's a make or break deal for a lot of potential purchasers. Getting an answer on what the DRM is isn't polluting the thread, it's providing important information.
Exactly. The DRM on this game is the difference between me buying a new computer, flight stick, and chair, and game of course, or not bothering with it at all.

Yeah, that would have made more sense in the long run.

The DRM Specifics:

L2: Cliffs of Dovers DRM solution
Posted on 7 March 2011 by admin
Hello,

We received many questions about the Digital Rights Management solution used in IL2 : COD. we understand it is an important subject for many of you, and we are a glad to tell you that IL2 Sturmovik: Cliff of Dover will use the SolidShield DRM solution. SolidShield features a flexible activation process and allows for up to 3 simultaneous game installs.

Please note that the game will also use the Steam platform for services such as matchmaking, anti-cheat etc… So you will need a Steam account to play the game.
Please refer to the Q&A below for further clarifications on Solidshield integration.

What type of DRM is being used in IL-2 Sturmovik: COD?

Avatar uses a new driverless activation solution to manage activations developed by Solidshield with whom T@GES is partnering.

How many activations do I get?

You can indefinitely activate your copy of the game on the same PC. You start with three activations (so, three different PC hardware configurations) to begin with. After one month, one activation will be re-credited (up to a maximum of three available activations at any given time).

Seems all good and fair to me. Complete Steam integration is really nice for matchmaking.
sorry haters
Day 1 on Steam for me.

128p online? Sounds like another $50 gone. Not to mention however much it costs for a flightstick.

Anyone want to recommend a decent one?

Steam integration and extra DRM make NO SENSE AT ALL IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE OF ALL OF THEM!

I know ubi is run by morans, but this is just taking the cake of all the moran cakes in the world.

Damn. Only $30 on Amazon. I wonder if I could dig up any other games to play with it. Wonder if it will work with my Ace Combat PS2 games on my PS3.

Anyone know?

The 128p MP really sold me on this game. Sounds amazing. Makes me want to go out and buy 2 more monitors and a small, uranium filled GPU.

DRM doesn't bother me. They just throw it in there to appease investors. It's never adversely affected me once in over 20 years of PC gaming. It had the chance to many times, but I've never been locked out of a game by the DRM. Maybe I'm lucky.

My thrustmaster is PS3 compatible.. id do a search around google man about ace combat 2 :) but im very happy my stick atm, really nice feel to it and adjustable levels of firmness too.

And yeah i cant wait for this game, been surfing round simhq forums though and the amount of pure hate Maddox is getting is disgusting.. he even said hes leaving game development replying to a guy on youtube who said Cliffs of Dover is a disappointed (even though he hasn't played it and its not even out)

Feel really bad for Maddox so bought it on steam and gonna buy another retail copy :)

Wait, this comes out April 19th according to Steam. NA version seems to be coming 1 month later than PAL.

Now, I'm making a buddy send me the Collector's Edition from the UK (since it only seems to be available there), but the full Steam integration might actually work against me, since it'll likely be locked out for me till April. Geez.

Where are you PC GAF? Are there really only like 3 people excited for 128 player dog fights?

I'll be getting it. There's just not really anything to talk about, without the typical sort of PR push or much footage or anything.

Steam teased the hell out of me. I finished a game earlier and got the Cliffs of Dover pop up ad and it said NOW AVAILABLE.

I never navigated to the Steam storefront with such fury. Then it said 4/19. :/

I wonder what the game will run like on my rig. The vids look amazing, but maybe it's not as taxing as I'm expecting.

Anyone have any idea how those 128p battles are gonna play out? That's what sold me.
