Yeah that's it, a third a BAME people hate themselves.

Great point to have level headed discussion at.
This shouldn't be complicated to figure out. For one thing, they dont have to hate themselves, merely have fuck you, got mine attitude. Secondly, even if they have no I'll feeling toward their own race there is nothing to stop xenophobia towards others. Black voters cann still be racist towards Muslims. Muslims can still want to kick out Poles, etc etc.

we used to have a fun game when I used to run a convenience store

me and my 10 staff would have a running bet regarding the daily express. We would bet on the contents of the front page for each day, and the losers would put the money in a pot. At the end of the month the person who guessed correctly most would win all. The choices for the bet each day/week were as follows:

1. migrants
2. miracle cure for arthiritis/heart problems
3. british weather
4. the royal family
5. madeline mcann
6. wildcard (guess your own, but unlikely to win out the above)

I swear the daily express must assume their readership have serious dementia or memory issues considering the sheer amount of times they run the exact same MIRACLE CURE FOR ARTHIRITIS!! front page. It's hilarious and clearly only there when they have absolutely nothing else worthwhile to say. It's also depressing.

Fuck, just guess Diana conspiracies every Monday and you'd win like 50% of time.

Maybe he is waiting for the UK to go tits up over the next few weeks then as his last official act, makes the referendum result void and walks away a hero, albeit an idiot for putting us in this position. I would be very happy with that.

I hope something is done soon so this whole issue is dealt with and the right(remain) decision is made. The longer it goes on the worse I see it getting. But if anything I see a whole new pro-EU movement sweeping round the UK.

Ha, I had a paper round as a teenager and it was pretty much all immigrants and Diana conspiracy theories on the Express front page. Then Madeleine McCann disappeared and they moved onto Maddie conspiracies.

sorry but what exactly are the differences between the commission, parliament and council?

Parliament: hundreds of representatives, chosen through elections in each country.
Commission: sort of small senate, consisting of one representative per country focusing on an important area.
Council: the actual 28 prime ministers/presidents of the countries in the EU.

The chinese guy who runs our local chippy exclaimed the his family all voted leave because, 'they're just letting too many of them in now'.

Fuck them, got theirs, basically.

Edit: Oh, they employ a Polish delivery girl too. Extra stupidity.

Madeline McCann and Diana conspiracies are The Express' bread and butter. They don't call it 'The Daily Ex-Princess' for nothing XD

You carefully avoid every non insulting response you got, so I think you're pretty well versed in outrage culture.

Disappointed, I actually replied to your post, but fuck me for not doing so quick enough eh?

Let's jump off this train with absolutely zero plan... who cares how many halal shops get petrol bombed or German women get pelted with shit because of my vote. I'm second generation so I got mine!

I shouldn't even waste time acknowledging this post, but, if you think that all leave voters are in support of these actions then that says much more about you than it does me.

Denied. Love to see your evidence though.

Watch any news that you wish. If you honestly don't think that the EU wants to become one sole nation then I guess I'm as flabbergasted as the remain voters on here.

A hypothetical United States of Europe UK had a written opt out of?
That USE nonsense is the real project fear that is spinned around since the '70. There is absolutely no way this gets passed without explicit consent of the country, and the UK even had it in writing.

Indeed. However, who says that they would use it?

There are people, some of the in this very thread, who would be delighted for the Government to shit can the recent referendum.

If a referendum was held in the future on that very subject, and the majority of people voted against it, like the recent referendum, there would be mass outcries from people demanding a "Second Referendum" or that the referendum isn't binding, and even for the Government to ignore the voice of the people of which it asked.

A USE is the logical path forward for the EU. What started out as a trade agreement has morphed already, with little to no input from the voting public in the grand scheme of things, and it's been what 70 odd years if you take into account the the EU was formed from the ECSC, 1993 if you want to go by actual "birth".

Do you comprehend the notion that we, as a society, will inevitably have to do this, if not go entirely global? That's where all of this is evolving towards. You're just reveling in your regressivism at this point. Not to mention the fact that the UK will NEVER be able to go full-on isolationist, and to be able to partake in the single market, it will have to adopt the majority of rules and regulations made in the EU regardless. Except this time, you'll have no say in changing it.

Don't take this personally, but your point of view is extremely shortsighted and misguided.

Don't worry I don't take it personally, I actually enjoy the discussion, just a shame that out of like a dozen replies there's maybe 2 which are actually worth acknowledging.

I do believe that is the outcome, one way or another, however that is a long, long way out. I mean there are people who cannot live in harmony in one country never mind across multiple under one rule, you only have to look at some people in this thread as an example where if they don't agree with something then it's game over, fuck everyone.

I strongly believe that we, as a species, are incapable of living under one rule.

Maybe this whole vote will give the EU the jolt it needs to re-think its course, although I don't hold my breath, it has already been mentioned by Merkel that they need to "prevent" countries from leaving the EU, not "persuade". She isn't stupid, she knows the meaning of words.

As far as I'm concerned a vote to stay in the EU was a vote for the status quo.

Great piece by George Monbiot in the Guardian:

Let’s sack the electorate and appoint a new one: this is the demand made by MPs, lawyers and the 4 million people who have signed the petition calling for a second referendum. It’s a cry of pain, and therefore understandable, but it’s also bad politics and bad democracy. Reduced to its essence, it amounts to graduates telling nongraduates: “We reject your democratic choice.”

Were this vote to be annulled (it won’t be), the result would be a full-scale class and culture war, riots and perhaps worse, pitching middle-class progressives against those on whose behalf they have claimed to speak, and permanently alienating people who have spent their lives feeling voiceless and powerless.

...

There isn’t another option, unless you favour the years of limbo and chaos that would ensue from a continued failure to trigger article 50. It’s not just that we have no choice but to accept the result; we should embrace it and make of it what we can.

It’s not as if the system that’s now crashing around us was functioning. The vote could be seen as a self-inflicted wound, or it could be seen as the eruption of an internal wound inflicted over many years by an economic oligarchy on the poor and the forgotten. The bogus theories on which our politics and economics are founded were going to collide with reality one day. The only questions were how and when.

...

Remote authority has been rejected, so let’s use this moment to root our politics in a common celebration of place, to fight the epidemic of loneliness and rekindle common purpose, transcending the tensions between recent and less recent migrants (which means everyone else). In doing so, we might find a language in which liberal graduates can talk with the alienated people of Britain, rather than at them.

Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron earlier addressed a crowd in Trafalgar Square insisting that the Brexit vote "is reversible".
And how many of those young people went and voted Remain a few days ago? 36% of them?

And how many of those young people went and voted Remain a few days ago? 36% of them?

The fact that they actually made the effort to get out and protest rather than just moan on social media would lead me to guess that most of these probably also got out and voted too.

Too many people in a country, public services cannot cope, not enough housing, wage suppression, lack of jobs etc etc.

Perfecty fine reasons to vote leave and try halt the problem. Nothing at all to do with racism.

So what are the chances of getting a vote of no confidence and snap elections? I mean, it's a fucking shitshow so there's reason enough and they could frame it around the referendum for a 2nd go since no one seems to want to actually go forward with it.

Realistically, I am aware this will never happen. However, I hope the European leaders remember there is 48% of us who voted to remain and identify as Europeans. If things are to collapse, I would hope we would be welcomed.

It would never happen but you're right, it's frustrating that so many are jumping on the entire UK when pretty much half the country wanted to remain. I know that leave won so it's easier to just suggest the whole of the UK should suffer but it's honestly quite sad that 48% of us who do identify as being European are so easily forgotten outside of certain leave campaigners who seem to now be panicking at the result and looking for ways out.

Angry twitter post cites petrol bombs and a dead 16 year old as a result of this referendum. Any actual facts behind this? Can't find shit on the news.

Molotov cocktail thrown at Halal butcher's in Walsall - I should say the police aren't treating it as a hate crime.... I don't know what else you'd fucking call it

edit > missed the earlier reply heh

That you say this like you've made some sort of profound reasonable point is amusing because it just illustrates a chronic disconnect from reality.

I think I'm going to have to re-evaluate a statement I made in another thread where I suggested the US might be the dumbest country in the world.

Clearly now the UK has beaten it, committing a serious mortal wound to itself is way dumber than apathy in the face of an out of touch political process.

And our politicians are seriously dumb if they think they can get a good out deal, when you have people like Farage shitting up the negotiating atmosphere. He's there perception of us. He's insulting them and then were going to negotiate with them, its like going up to a bunch of sharks and expecting them not to eat you.

Cameron has no power ATM. I think it's a stalling tatic on art51.

The best thing he should of done was to null the ref and then resign.

Watching Ch4 news and there was a massive pro-EU demrostration at Westminster :) I just hope the EU members are watching this and seeing that the nation is divided and we are not happy.

Yeah . I think EU know we are troubled and need saving before we do any more damage to ourselves and the EU as a whole.

They should call of leave because it will damage the British people . All the hate crimes we are seeing if it goes further possibly riots.

Cameron should just fucking fall on his sword . Farage thrown out .

The EU Are the shown as the professional adults they are , UK looks like a toddler throwing a fit.

We will be a toothless partner in the EU but still in it.

The massve amoubt of schadenfreude this has caused is a big example to all why we need the EU.

The stalling right now, as much as it's hurting our economy and other's, is unfortunately the best way forward.

Cameron can't reject the result of the referendum. If he does so and resigns, his successor will just push on with it. If he does so and stays in power, he'll be ousted and his successor will push on with it, or if he managed to stay in power there would be massive civil unrest.

The best way forward for ourselves and Europe is to acknowledge the referendum but delay it as much as possible. Let people get a taste of what's to come by giving the turmoil enough time to hit the highstreet. Let the City quietly pile on the pressure on the Tories (which, believe me, is happening). We may even need a significant sacrificial lamb, like a major institution leaving the UK.

By the time it comes to pressing the a50 shaped red button, the public will have no taste for it, and the EU might be able to offer up some token gesture (which will not be labelled as another British concession, but instead a required measure to "stabilise the UK").

Maybe this whole vote will give the EU the jolt it needs to re-think its course, although I don't hold my breath, it has already been mentioned by Merkel that they need to "prevent" countries from leaving the EU, not "persuade". She isn't stupid, she knows the meaning of words.

The EU "rethinking its course" basically translates to, at best, us stalling while the rest of the world continues careering towards globalisation and better positioning itself to pick up whatever balls we drop. Think western manufacturing and low/unskilled jobs have been hit hard? It will look like nothing comparing to when automation and AI really takes off.

The EU, as bureaucratic and wasteful as it can be sometimes, is a way for Europe to circle the wagons and make sure we're not taken advantage of (like the sourcing requirements on manufacturing) by larger players.

I don't understand the sudden(?) uprising of violence and hostility against immigrants after the referendum? Did people actually think that Brexit was short for immigrants will be forced to exit Britain or what? These stories popping up are just sickening.

Don't you know that people not in this country have some magic inalienable right to move to our country that we have denied them?

Vodafone evaluating moving domicile - probably to Dusseldorf. Would mean shutting down Newbury HQ and Paddington offices. 1-2k jobs.

You don't understand racists being more open with their racism after a referendum that was based around immigration, aka mainstream friendly racism, told them they were right?

Immigrants are a net contributor to the economy, if public services are being underfunded then it's central government pissing the money away to get the balance of payments in the black but not not addressing our trade deficit.
