The EU was a sinking ship, you can research that yourselves
What gibberish is this? Sinking ship, get to fuck! So your plan was to carve the word 'sovereignty' into your life preserver and jump into the fucking sea?

I don't want to wish someone dead but oh how the UK could be so different right now had Farage's plane crash turned out differently

Does Farage even give a shit? He's got what he wanted, this is making things even worse.

I'm still trying to evaluate whether I see a future for myself here or if I should sell up.

Realistically, I am aware this will never happen. However, I hope the European leaders remember there is 48% of us who voted to remain and identify as Europeans. If things are to collapse, I would hope we would be welcomed.

I think history teaches us that, further down the line when/if things get really bad, nearly everyone will be claiming they were part of the 48%

He hasn't got it yet - his big concern is we end up in an EEA type deal or some type of stitch up where we're not in control over borders, the rules, and are giving money to other countries. To him, where it looks like we'll end up, is a massive betrayal of the voters.

To me, it's making the most of a shit situation but hey

He actually wants the complete fall for the European Union. I don't think he can stand there being a better Europe without him.

I'm starting to regret my long fixed mortgage

I wasn't there for the campaigns and I don't know what their (deleted?) pitch was. I'm watching this from the outskirts and trying to make sense of this fuckery.

The main selling point was immigration. The main reason for voting Leave was immigration. Don't let people fool you. That's what the data tells us. Data doesn't lie.

I'm sure there were people who voted Leave and aren't racists. They can vote whatever they want and they should. The question everyone's asking themselves right now is: Why?

Some are dissappointed by the EU and that's totally fine. The EU isn't perfect by any means and has made mistakes in the past. So they want to get away from the EU, fair enough. Problem is the EU is right next to them, one of the world's super powers. If they think the EU won't have power over them they are dead wrong. They gave up their relevance in the world and the UK will shatter into pieces (seeing how Scotland wants independence/students abroad will be granted the Italian citizenship just so this referendum won't ruin their lives/companies fleeing etc.).

What it boils down to is the people who voted Leave overestimated their own power, their own nation. They thought they could leave and the rest of the world would run to be first in line for trade negotiations. They also thought they could keep the benefits of the EU without being a member. Ain't happening. Nationalism and Patriotism got the best of them, and #yolo votes. They voted to become the laughing stock of the world and to go down in history as one of the dumbest decisions a modern, powerful nation has ever made.

And the rest of the Leave voters are just racists. Plain and simple. They can congratulate each other for that, other far-right parties and Donald Trump are delighted to join the festivities.

There are legal and democratic ways to circumvent the referendum. I consider these fair game. If none of them are instigated I agree the referendum should stand, and whatever action the government wish to take, they have been liberated to do so.

We already have clear indications of unrest on the streets and those who voted 'Leave' are in the position of having 'won' the vote. What message does that send out? The 'win' has liberated and legitimised this behaviour, of that there can be no doubt. The leaders who ran the 'Leave' campaigns have gone into hiding. There is no way out. We will not give up access to the single market. We're headed into a direction where economically and strategically we are worse off, and the only olive branch we may get is a more severe points system or free movement will apply to jobs over a certain wage. And this is a very large 'if', we are very much at the EU's mercy here.

The problems we have are with domestic policy. We are an island. Overpopulation will naturally hit us more than a large mainland which can spread. Poor land use pushes everyone to the other 5/6 major cities in the UK. Births are higher than deaths, people are living longer because the mortality rate is improving with each generation. The government are raising the pensionable age. These are basic truths.

The coalition government instigated a policy of austerity which we sucked up. When it came to a general election, we asked for a second, fuller serving. The only thing that has kept certain towns and areas afloat during this time has been money from the EU. This is a microcosm for the entire situation. By voting leave, for whatever reasons you have, you have thrown your hat in with xenophobes and extremists. They think you're with them, because no one with any sort of brain power could take a vote on the EU and say 'Leave' based on any sort of sensible economic analysis.

With all this said, I'm getting sick of this attitude of 'let's all get stuck in and work through it'. The answer is 'No'. And it will remain 'No' until someone shows that 'Leave' have a plan, or can assure me with facts, figures and protected funding that there is a way out of this pathetic position we are in. You got your mines back, we've been dropped into them. Dark, directionless with no way out.

Add to this the whole comedy factor. We're so scared of muslims the only way to beat them is to Jihad the entire country. Even terrorist attacks like 9/11 only cripple the markets temporarily, this is a wet dream for those looking to attack the UK. We've just plunged head first into an economic wasteland that could last years and years. It may take 3/4 months before you start noticing prices increasing gradually, things aren't going as far as they once did. Then we get hit with the budget, VAT up to 22% (a regressive tax), jobs dry up as businesses cut costs, The top earners abandon ship losing all their income tax to the treasury, welfare is cut, those who think they had it bad now have an insight into what Victorian times were like. Desperate people now become more desperate, they turn to petty crime and robbery from those who were once neighbours.....it's just proper bleak.

The internet is not reflective of real people anyway. I wouldn't expect anyone discussing this on the internet from a 'Leave' point of view to change their mind. As soon as you pst something on the internet, there's a real battle of principle that prevents people reflecting on their previous position and admitting they may have been grossly wrong. However, the general mood amongst those who did vote leave seems to be one of reflection which is a start to accepting a compromise in which we end up worse off but alleviate the problems with the economy while presenting it as a hollow win to the stout but foolhardy 'Leave' side.

Thankfully only my sister voted to leave, after years of pretending to be an open minded sensible individual, she came out as a nasty narrow minded bigot and wasn't even embarrassed to admit it. Thankfully today my mum tore a strip off her and put her in her place, proud of my mum.

It's a terrible idea and would just cause more problems, but it would be hilarious for the voting record to eventually end up public when it becomes clear what a disaster Brexit is. Might go a little way to deconstructing the British exceptionalism which is causing so much damage to our nation's potential.

Watch any news that you wish. If you honestly don't think that the EU wants to become one sole nation then I guess I'm as flabbergasted as the remain voters on here.

Yeah, I'm still going to need that evidence or a credible source, please. I watch/read a lot of news, haven't yet come across what you're alluding to. It shouldn't take you long as you've implied it's covered by pretty much every news source.

I didn't want to be 10 years struggling in a EU what clearly still isn't working for the average person where laws are made by unelected bureaucrats.

the best possible deal we can get at the moment is actually really similar to the old one, except there will be even more laws made by unelected bureaucrats that we have to abide by

UK is not the world powerhouse it thinks it is, maybe it was in 1973 before it joined the proto-EU but not now when every part of it has been sold off

without the EU, we'll need to latch onto the USA instead in order to preserve the ludicrously comfortable quality of life we've taken for granted

Yes I'm sure a great many racists voted to remain in the EU and keep free movement of people for the UK.

Yes I'm sure you voted for legitimate well researched reasons that you actually understand.

Still with this? You know how MEPs come to power, right?

Either way, I'm sure the EU is far less democratic than our House of Lords? Or our soon-to-be unelected new prime minister?

As a bonus fact, you know that there are more bureaucrats in Birmingham than the entirety of the EU? Interesting how the word has become synonymous with something terrible though, isn't it? Like 'experts', which I think we can all agree we've had enough off.

Hey, you could always opt out of the EU's single market, then you'll be truly freed of those accursed "unelected" bureaucrats. You'll also be freed of your job, most likely.
