I mean its fairly obvious iggy azalea has made it this far because of her skin but it is unfair for her to compare herself to eminem. Eminem at least came from a very real place in Detroit where he came up in the battle rap scene and has a clear respect for the music. Whereas Iggy Azaelea makes her popraps, brands it rap music, and has no clear respect for the artform and whenever she's critiqued for it she uses her white priviledge as a defense mechanism. Im not saying she shouldnt rap because she's white or because she's not from the hood, im saying her music should reflect her experiences rather than portray a caricature. She only came into the rap world because of TI, without that she'd just be another pop artist

What's wrong here is that I took an identity and a perspective that had to be earned and stole it to benefit from it.

This is what iggy is doing. She isn't a black girl from the south who has grown up in the culture. She's a white girl from australia, who stole an identity for profit.

Most rapper's music are just extensions of themselves. For the most part, they might not be gangstas but they atleast grew up around the shit. They stay authentic and talk about their identity, they just turn it up a little bit for the audience.

Eminem is a poor white boy from Detroit with a fucked up childhood, and that's what he raps about.
Mac Miller is a kid from Pittsburgh who likes weed and bitches, and that's what he raps about.
Macklemore is a suburban clown from Seattle and that's what he raps about.
None of them drastically change their accent.

Iggy is a white girl from australia but she doesn't rap about that. She raps about American culture, specifically black American culture and uses a black accent from the south.

The bitch came over here, stole an identity for profit and literally took millions and millions of dollars away from real artists who could've been given her spot in the music industry.

Think about that the next time you say some shit like "oh rappers just salty af because they not shinin like iggy"

I don't care about the accent. There's a big ass list of British artists having different accents while singing, I can't catch feelings over that, nor do I think she "sounds black." She sounds like a fucking clown. If I have a problem with her voice it's that it's horrible. It sounds bad on records and sounds absolutely ludicrous live. That mixed with her inability to rap just makes her sound stupid, especially on tracks that aren't over produced.

Cultural appropriation as a concept has been fucked up by people using it incorrectly IMO. I don't care that Iggy is white. One of my many problems is that she has no identity. Since the very beginning, rap has been used by artists to tell people about their home. Brooklyn rappers had a style, Queens rappers had a (superior) style, etc. Then other states and regions chimed in. Then different countries, hence grime from the UK. Iggy has no musical connection to where she's from. I get that she has lived in the US for years but still, it's weird that she has nothing to say about her culture.

Australia has a dope music scene too, including some really good soul and r&b stuff.
