But damn it baby, my time costs
And damn it baby, my time is money
So I need payback for all the time lost
I need payback for all the time lost
Said, I need payback for all the time lost
Damn it baby, my time costs

Sums up "The New Classic" perfectly.

Seriously, she shouldn't be considered a rapper after listening to this.

Here's something to think about...

What if I went into a mall wearing a marine's uniform, badges and everything. All the stores are giving me discounts and then afterwards I go into a bar and I'm getting free drinks and people start giving me nods of respect and then I start telling people about how I believe in fighting for my country and war is some serious stuff and how real it is over in Iraq............but then someone asks me how long I've been a marine for and I say "oh I'm not a marine, I just like rocking the uniform and acting like a marine."

What's wrong here is that I took an identity and a perspective that had to be earned and stole it to benefit from it.

This is what iggy is doing. She isn't a black girl from the south who has grown up in the culture. She's a white girl from australia, who stole an identity for profit.

Most rapper's music are just extensions of themselves. For the most part, they might not be gangstas but they atleast grew up around the shit. They stay authentic and talk about their identity, they just turn it up a little bit for the audience.

Eminem is a poor white boy from Detroit with a fucked up childhood, and that's what he raps about.
Mac Miller is a kid from Pittsburgh who likes weed and bitches, and that's what he raps about.
Macklemore is a suburban clown from Seattle and that's what he raps about.
None of them drastically change their accent.

Iggy is a white girl from australia but she doesn't rap about that. She raps about American culture, specifically black American culture and uses a black accent from the south.

The bitch came over here, stole an identity for profit and literally took millions and millions of dollars away from real artists who could've been given her spot in the music industry.

Think about that the next time you say some shit like "oh rappers just salty af because they not shinin like iggy"

Foh.

yes.

If it makes you feel any better all of her lyrics were probably written by some black guy from the south.

Queen Iggy didn't steal any identity. She was influenced (like pretty much every artist in existence) by southern hip-hop/rappers. She has her own style and swagger.

And can y'all stop mentioning Azealia Stanks in the same sentence as the Queen? Thank you, kindly.

Words she shouldve lived by her own damn self. Dumpster. Fire. And an all around malicious bitch on social media. Not sure whose more obnoxious, her or Iggy. Probably Banks because she seems to get a thrill from destroying any goodwill or sympathy anyone could have for her.

Lots of salt about a pop artist.

Calm down folks.

She is most likely a one hit wonder, stop crying over nothing.

Hahaha, you need to sign up for some musical education. Deluded

Also, fixed that for you:

Pretty much every artist in existence was influenced by southern blues musicians and pioneers of Deejay/Soundsystems/Producers coming out of Jamaica since the 1950s

Embarrassing.

Iggy's queen? I shudder to think who the king is...

Everybody is too busy shitting on her to realize her 15 minutes were up sometime last October. If y'all would just shut up about her, she'd already be in the bin with the Olivias of the rap world. It's like the rap game's It's A Wonderful Life. Every time you mention her name, a talentless hack gets it's time extended.

Let her go already, NeoGAF. Believe in yourselves.

I think people should have a problem with her audience rather than with her. She wouldn't have half the people interested in her music if she was black. She wouldn't have half the people interested in her if she was rapping in an Australian accent about life in Australia.
It's similar to the discussion about black British actors portraying African Americans. The reason so many british actors, of any race, end up playing Americans is because the market for movies with british people in them is much smaller.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.

Gurl stop.

Iggy's bordering-on-racist-caricature fake accent is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to problems with this artiste. Azealia is a terrible person too as evidenced by her homophobic and bigoted comments on Twitter and her Bill Cosby comments, but the difference is that she HAS talent AND an amazing album (BWET).

Igor has neither and will be joining Azealia in the irrelevance pile shortly, seeing how Trouble already flopped.

Naw, I'm good. It's not necessary because if you took the time or care to search for 5 minutes you'll find a great modern rap album. Whether it be through the GAF-Hop thread, the AOTY awards, reviewers, soundcloud, bandcamp, etc. It's not really difficult.

Thanks buddy.

The Iggy hate would be rightfully labelled racist if she were a black woman trying to break out in a white subculture. I'm tired of the weak, transparent attempts at framing this outrage as anything but racially fuelled. It is, and I say that as a black person that doesn't give a fuck about race or gender when it comes to art and artistic expression.

I don't care if her music sucks, whether she can rap or not or whether she's a phony because she puts on an accent. Since when has quality ever been requisite for mainstream success? Since when has there been such an outrage against people not sounding the way they speak when they perform? It's all bullshit, paper thin justifications for what is essentially puerile, incessant whining.

What if that black woman trying to break out in a white subculture is also posting incredibly racist tweets during that time?

I literally cannot stand her voice. She has to stop trying to sound like a gangster because it makes her look like a huge tool.

Meh....to me, Iggy is as much hip-hop as Jason Derulo is R&B. They're both pop with just a tinge of urban artistry/flavor. I've never heard my local urban radio station (107.9 - Cleveland) play either of them, so I wouldn't say that Iggy is on her way to killing anything.

Sure, it becomes a problem when the industry tries to shoehorn her into a genre she doesn't belong in (like when she receives a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album) but you can't take that too seriously. Even if she won, who cares? Will that mean anything to the average consumer? Probably not. By no stretch of the imagination will she be considered the best ANYTHING in rap/hip-hop.

I see her more as hip-pop. And since that's not a real genre, she's being aligned with hip-hop.....because she's rapping. But it takes more than rapping to be considered part of the genre (see Flo Rida)

Maybe it's just me but I don't take any of it very seriously; I don't see her as a threat at all.

You misunderstood me. I was saying that every artist were influenced by something that came before. Not that every artist was influenced by southern hip-hop. I guess I can see how you would misinterpret it.
