And may I throw this out there?

27" Viewsonic N2750w, it's only 800 dollars and sounds really nice.
16:9, 1280x720, DVI, RGB, TV tuner, PIP

Does anyone happen to own this TV/monitor or have a specific opinion on it?
Do you think that the PS3 will point and laugh at its DVI input?

Nah. You could always use component cables. If you don't want to do that, just get an HDMI-to-DVI adapter to use with the PS3's HDMI-out. The DVI port on that set is HDCP compatible, so you should be alright with Blu-Ray copy protection, etc.

Does anyone own one of those Samsung LNR327W or 328W 32 inch LCD tv's. Could these same people tell me if they are any good ? Even the AVS forum seems limted on this exact model. I've heard just as much good as bad and the thing looked okay in the store.

VGA boxes are your friend.

i'm pretty retarded as far as all this display shit goes... but if i get the 360 and the vga hookups... will i be playing games in 720p and letterboxed?

After seeing that thread last week on the 50" Sony A10, I so totally almost dropped the coinage on it. Last night I was in Best Buy but held off. Thing's still on sale this week and I just got a coupon for double Reward Zone points + 75,000 points when you buy a TV... it's very tempting. Only problem is, do I need more CC debt? Hrm.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread from the dead, but I had mentioned the 32" LCD Westinghouse TV in an earlier post, and I wanted to let everyone know that Best Buy has the TV on sale, at least in my market, for $898 at the moment. When I saw the price, I promptly purchased one. The store was out of them, but mine is coming in on Thursday.

That's a heck of a deal on 32" LCD HDTV, and as I mentioned earlier, the AVS forums have posted rave reviews on the TV. Normal price, is $1399 (actually $1423.90 on bestbuy.com right now) If anyone is interested in an excellent TV, now is the right time to buy in preperation for the Xbox 360. Can't wait to get mine later in the week.

BTW, if you want more info on this set, go here:

'Sup fam... Been a minute.

Small, but very functional. It's LCD, so 720p is no problem. Faroudja Processing chip... Tuner built in. Can be had for ~$400 refurbed, and that was like 8 months ago.

It's just that it scares me if I were to purchase this and somehow the PS3 doesn't play nice with it. I'd be ill if I had to use just the components on the set because aren't they noticeably inferior?

i know this TV is not next gen but i was hoping some of you experts could give me a run down how you think it will hold up for the next gen graphics??

http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-news.pl?mdl=KP61S75&LOC=3

i've had it for awhile and it's been a great multiplayer TV although i find myself playing single player on my smaller standard tv a lot of times instead.

thanx for any feedback.

specially if you can suggest a TV of Next Gen spes that would not let me loose to much of the size of this baby without going more then a grand or so. doubt that is even possible though.

It seems like Sony is discontinuing all CRT TVs so you should be able to get one of the Fab Super-fine pitch Widescreen Sony CRTs in you pricerange...

Keep an Eye out for the Sony XBR960s in particular....

HDMI and HDCP are supposed to be compatible. In reality though, there are differences and the combination of technology and lawyers invariably fucks the consumer.

To be honest, the adoption of Blu-Ray is entirely dependent on what Hollywood is prepared to give up. If they insist on HDMI for movie playback, they have to suck up an interminably slow adoption rate, possibly followed by failure - THIS is Sony's huge gambit, not the tech - and if they go with component, then they have to concede their (exaggerated) piracy issue.

HD-DVD wouldn't have any advantage here, since HDMI would be mandated by the studios for that format too.

It is however a fair possibility that Hollywoood will fuck itself in the ass with this shit.

Not being critical, but I wanted to ask, why did a few of you in this thread (at least I am aussuming you did because of the screen size) buy a 4x3 hdtv? Unless a majority of your tv watching is standard tv, why not go widescreen? Just curious. :)

thanx i will keep my eyes peeled for sure but i gotta admit i am hoping i can get a good 2-3 more years from this one if i can.

i am afraid though that games might look more blurred do to it being rear projection.

i am pretty sure it has compsite component or whatever next gen hook up needed in the back but honestly i don't know much about this tv or any other . :(

do you think this http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-news.pl?mdl=KP61S75&LOC=3 will make for sufficiant next gen for the time being?

i'd sell it and use the cash towards something widescreen but it's not really worth much anymore i think.

Just hung this on my wall over the weekend - Sony KDL-V40XBR1 (bravia)

No 1080p, but I'm not really bummed about that - native resolution is 720p, with the Display Resolution at 1366 x 768... which seems strange to me (shouldnt it be 1152x720 ...or something like that?? )

But i'm no way near complaining - this tv is simply awesome. :D Cant wait to play PD0 and DOA4 on it.

How do you usually hide the cables when you hang one on the wall? Or do most people just send them THROUGH the wall?
If I get that Viewsonic I'll probably just use a TV stand though, may be easier.

Going through the wall is usually easy enough - but if you're looking for an easier way - buy some wire molding, paint it the color of your wall and that will work as well - especially if you have a piece of furniture in front like a table or something. Thats what I did and it looks great.

Hey Gunstarhero -- I'm thinking about picking up that 40" XBR set. I was just out shopping this weekend.

I'm basically trying to decide between the Sony and the Samsung LN-R408D or LN-R409D. Did you look at those sets as well? They apparently have the same panel (from the Samsung/Sony JV factory) and are slightly cheaper. What made you go with the Sony?

Excellent, thanks for the tips.

Single link should be fine. Barely anything actually needs dual link.

Can anyone recommend a decent, lower-priced 4:3 HDTV 27" or above? I already have a 27" 16:9 LCD HDTV, but I watch a lot of classic movies in 4:3, and I'd like a bigger 4:3 HDTV for the back bedroom so I can watch my 1940s flicks and still get the progressive scan signal. It doesn't have to be the greatest TV in the world.

I actually looked at a lot of tvs for that last 2 weeks (including the Samsung LN-R408D) - what made me go with the Sony were the black levels and picture quality - it basically matches my CRT (KV36-XBR800), which I love but wanted something I could hang on my wall. I'm amazed that the picture is CRT-like quality coming out of a LCD.

In the end, it was all about the blacks (which were washed out or not as deep in a lot of LCDs I looked at) and the fact that I've had nothing but good experiences with Sony TVs.

Yea, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I want this TV.

The new DellTM W3201C 32" LCD HDTV delivers a wide aspect, high-definition resolution giving you life-like picture quality at an incredible price. It's a slim TV that allows you to enjoy HD content, DVD video or gaming. With a slim 8.21" depth - only 4.49" when the stand is removed - the W3201C is able to deliver a luxurious "27" X "15" viewing area to fill a bedroom or living room with vivid color. The W3201C also provides the option to connect to a PC to view pictures, or surf the web.

Damn...doesn't get much prettier than that. Now if they could release something in the 2500 range...

Well, it might not be too far off. Shop Sunshine (www.shopsunshin.com) in NY has the 60" for $3800. That's $1200 off MSRP. Quite unreal. The price for the 50" should be quite cheaper. If you can get a Sears store to price match (they do 110% price match) you are set. Better yet, catch Sears on the right week and you can get another 10% off by using your Sears card.

A couple coworkers of mine are interested in getting the 60" like I am, so we're considering waiting a month or two for the price to drop a bit more and for Sears weekly 10% off special to be in effect then we'll borrow/rent a truck and head to Sunshine's store (not too far away). We'll then hit a Sears in close proximity. Beside saving a butload of money due to the 10% + another 10% off, we'll also probably save $900 combine on shipping.

I'm also selling my 51" RP CRT for a "G" to make up for the extra expense of my soon to be purchase. The only bad is that I'm going to get my wallet raided when trying to get a stand for the tv but that can't be helped. :/

I can tell you that for HD on Xbox, the gamma on this TV is so dark that you cannot adjust it to make games pleasant.

Won't be a problem on 360 because of how gamma is output, but it looks super super dark for today's machines.

I got this thing in the mail today from Circuit City with a nice selection of plasma and LCD TVs on sale and also some coupons/cards for $100 off TVs $999 and up, and no interest for 24 months on TVs $999 and up. I think Im starting to get closer to getting an HDTV but I cant make up my mind what type to get.

Gunstarhero,

I'm seriously considering buying this as an upgrade to my '93 Sony 27-inch XBR^2 set (which I still love). I would use it for next gen, but also as a replacement for my old set. Thus, my PS1/2 and GC games must look great on it. Have you tried any current-gen games yet? Is it comparable to CRT?

I appreciate the info.

I was at Sams Club today and noticed they have a huge selection of LCD, Plasma, Projection HDTVs on display.

They had a 30-ish inch LCD w/ HDMI for $999.00 and it didn't look too bad.
I think I'd rather go for the Viewsonic though because it's more of a "name brand" to me.

edit: how the hell you do you post links and while changing the actual link to what you want (ex. 'here' for the link)? i

i suck at the internet :(

I can't recommend this TV enough - it looks just as good as my KV36-XBR80 CRT set in my basement - which I love.

I currently have my xbox and cube hooked up to it (all component) - DOA Ultimate and Fzero look incredible. Color are deep, blacks are black - and I haven't noticed any blurring when things are moving fast on screen. Didn't bother hooking my PS2 up though... I can only imagine what my 360 is going to look like.

Anyway - to answer your question - YES. I moved my xbox and cube from my basement CRT to my new Sony and cant tell the difference - it actually looks better imo.

Hope that helps - Let me know if you have any other questions

Let me know what you think and what you used as general settings. I am always looking for tweaks.

Thanks a million. I think my old set is dying so I have to buy a new one. I've got my choices for a new TV narrowed down to this and the 34-inch Sony XBR960. For me, it's very important that my new TV have a quality similar to a CRT. There is a "grainy" quality to many other TV technologies (like DLP projection) that I don't like. This TV is for my bedroom and I sit relatively close to the set so I want optimal image quality.

I will be interested to know what you think if you ever hook up your PS2. This set will be the only set I use for PS1 and PS2 gaming, and very few of these games make use of progressive scan. I also play a lot of 2D games like Street Fighter and Final Fantasy chronicles, so I am hoping for a CRT-like image quality here as well. I will probably ask the Circuit City guys to hook up a PS2 so I can make sure. Have you tried any games yet on the Cube that don't use progressive can?

Finally, how is the sound output from the normal TV speakers? (A surround sound system seems like a no-brainer for this set though.) Thanks again.

any chance sony makes a 37" version of their A10 projection?

Only 40" and 50" right now. I'm kinda doubting they will make anything smaller than that in RP; if you top out around 37 for some sort of space reason, you'll likely have to look at flat panel LCD or plasma.
