As opposed to the GIF/JIF debate (G as in graphics), this one at least makes sense to me, though I won't be changing my ways any time soon. Saying "car" instead of "char" would feel weird.Pronounce character. Pronounce variable. Shorten those. Neither of those sound like "Charlie." So stop that mess with the inappropriate pronunciation of the abbreviated term.
Wait, people pronounce "character" as care-actor?no it's not, char is short for character and the 'char' is character is pronounced as care.
And fish is spelt "ghoti", go figure.
Some people think "GIF" should be pronounced "JIF," and some people think it should be pronounced "GIF." There's apparently a raging debate on the subject.
This isn't even worth talking about. Hard G is what the majority say. The White House should quit wasting time and start focusing on important things like piezo. How am I suppose to say that?

I see alot of folks pronounce bmp as B-M-P, am I weird for just always saying bitmap? I know it's not spelt like that, but it seems so much easier to say (two syllables compared to three).
Edit:

It's clearly GIF as in Graphics, not JIF as in Jraphics (Giraffe-ics?).
Guess it's an accent thing? I'm English, so yeah, for me, it's car-actor. Though maybe more like ca-racter.Uh yeah? People prounounce "character" as car-actor?
Jif is a cleaning product!
I'm really confused
It's pronounced "Jif"
Creator calls it jif, i'mma call it jif.
jif>gif.
Creator calls it jif, i'mma call it jif.

On the contrary, it's pronounced gif. As in how it's spelled.
He created the format, but he merely interpreted the pronunciation. The guy who named if gets to, you know, name it. And he named it with a soft g. Soft g it is.
