Damn right.

FIPV

That one is easy, anyone that has the En E Ess calls it an S En E Ess. Anything else is wrong.
99% of people who say acronyms as if they are words are having fun and trolling those who get uptight about it.

I actually pronounced it "gif" until I came here, where I saw a thread that convinced me to start calling it "jif". And now I have to switch back.

So I guess the moral of the story is to never listen to you guys.

If the person that invented any object pronounced it a certain way, that would be the pronunciation, because that's how it was intended. Might make more sense another way but it's still not what it is.

No. There person who invents something can still be wrong. Especially on the case of how language works.

It should have never been a debate in the first place, that's how it should have been the whole time.

Lay down the law Obama.

It's pronounced jif. Anything else is wrong.

White house will have this alongside their drone program as their missteps when people look back in the future.

I've always pronounced it with a hard G. I was surprised it was even an issue for debate, as when I hear JIF, I think of cleaning products. The hard G makes sense and sounds better, in my opinion.

Yes.

It is actually pronounced jif, so you losers should enjoy your lil circle jerk while you can.

I figured a forum as rabidly anti-Star Wars prequel as GAF would realize that the creator of something is not always the best authority on the creation.

Hard "G" is the only reasonable choice.

I'll pronounce it like the closest actual word, gift, instead of some dumbass peanut butter brand that doesn't even have a G in it.

Not to mention the 'g' stands for a word that is pronounced with a hard 'g'. The President of the United States has issued an executive order that GIF is pronounced with a hard 'g', the debate is over. Pack it up.

Glad that we are getting this important business out of the way.

I've pronounced it with a hard G since GIF was the file type of choice of naked pictures that I downloaded off Bulletin Boards with my 14.4 fax modem pre-Internet. And I'm not changing now.

I never understood this.

Its Gif, not Jiff. Just like it's gift but without the t.

Why the fuck does everyone keep repeating this and the "jraphics" shit? That's not how the rules of language work; you can't just say it's the same pronunciation as "gift" without the T. Character and char have two totally "ch" sounds yet start the same. Plus, GIF is an acronym.

I always spelled it out in the rare occasions I have to reference the format aloud IRL. So I guess I'm the Linux in this Mac/Windows debate.
