Mario Kart 8 (well and trials before it I guess) is what brought me round to looking out for a solid 60 fps. good grief it looks nice
I think they can do better. Their art style is nice, but 1080p/60 with AA would help it look better.
Worth the trade off for 60fps. Maybe next gen we'll finally see console hardware capable of consistently delivering both.720p is really holding these games back, though.

Pikmin 3, Xenoblade and Zelda apply to this too. I expect 720p for the last two.sörine;145427020 said:Worth the trade off for 60fps. Maybe next gen we'll finally see console hardware capable of consistently delivering both.
Take away the cell shading the keep always using and their games will look like shit. Sorry.
And yes i am a Wii U owner and love it but sorry that's the truth. Very easy to hide poly counts when using the style that they do. It works perfectly for the type of games that they do, but add more realistic textures and it the blockiness will start showing.
Pikmin 3 was a case of Wii roots showing through. I was disappointed it wasn't 60fps given the scope and genre, but it's really more puzzle adventure than rts I guess so not too detrimental.Pikmin 3, Xenoblade and Zelda apply to this too. I expect 720p for the last two.

Nintendo doesnt use cel shading. except for WW HD and Zelda U,all the others have realistic textures here and there.
Take a square object, use a solid color on it, then the same square with real textures. Guess wich one is going to look better. It's just a trick to fool the eye. It works great. Or simply using solid colors like Mario and many other games use will hide better blockiness than textures that are more realistic looking.

Zelda and Xenoblade are open world games. Those sorts of games aren't 1080p/60fps on anything but PC.

It's more about the art style than the console itself. The cartoonish style nintendo uses is good, so good. That's why Wind Waker will never get old and that's why Xenoblade's X characters look so bad...

WiiU is perfect for the cartoonish style of Nintendo games...but go out of that style and you will get things like this.
I don't think I've been in a thread today that didn't have a post gushing about Drive Club. Yes, Evolution is very good at rendering wet cars. So are a lot of other developers.
I can't see anything there's too much rain on the screen![]()
When will people stop saying this is good looking? It's oversaturated orange eyes burning nightmare.
The "rain drops on the window" shader is unbearably bad. It doesn't even show the drops hitting the glass. Also, can't see shit.
You are right that Nintendo uses art direction to "hide" flaws, it works though, they have been doing this since they started, whatever tricks they use, we know what the system is capable of, the mere fact that people praise the visuals on Wii U is amazing to me, compared to Xbone, and PS4, Wii U was never designed to compete, but here we are, here and other threads.
They have to make the game look better than it actually is, but also design the art style to make it stand out, even compared to other Nintendo games, using the limited resources they have to make it, that is not easy.
Besides that there are other games like Pikmin, X and Bayonetta that go for a more realistic style.
Ugh, I remember being absolutely blown away when X was initially revealed, what the hell happened? It's more about the art style than the console itself. Ahh OK. I've gone mostly dark on it since the reveal. Are the gorgeous landscapes still in tact? That's a really, really old image of X. Also early reveals did very little to show faces... for this reason. They all have doll faces for the girls.

How is it unfair? Wii U is next gen, right? That's a little unfair no?
Awesome! I burnt myself out on Xenoblade due to being stupid and doing every sidequest I saw, but I'm still super hyped for Xenoblade Chronicles X.The environment and the scale of the game still look amazing.

The games themselves look amazing (despite some of them having really aliased graphics), but the menus and OS looks atrocious. Anyone else agree?

Actually I think this is more art style than anything else. Even FF XIII would compare very favorably in the PS4 spot honestly. X's character models are ugly.
PS3 and 360 games also had games with amazing visuals also
Art

Why are people shocked by this? This is like the 5th thread about this same topic

Not to mention the X characters aren't even good by Wii U (or PS2) standards lol.I'm fairly certain the image on the left is either pre-rendered, or a bullshot.
Cpu on the ps3 overtake the ps4 cpu in the graphic task and no, you try to say ps3 cpu it's superior in some way to the ps4 cpu when it's absolutely false, just to prove how fine it's to have a weaker cpu for the wiiu, when it's not. With the edram you need a better cpu to support the whole performance in the hardware because bottleneck are everywhere, we can stop here please?sörine;145422964 said:A Ubisoft Cloth Physics test from GDC implies otherwise. All I said was CELL outperformed PS4's CPU in certain respects and that certifiably true. PS3 and 360 had insanely overengineered CPUs for their time. It's why those systems broke the bank in terms of pricepoints and upfront losses, but modern GPUs have basically taken gaming hardware in an entirely different direction now architecturally. All the consoles and even handhelds now have relatively weak CPUs paired with more capable GPUs.
That's not what I said at all so I guess we can't stop here. I just said the PS3 CPU outperformed PS4's CPU in some respects (and sourced that, be nice if you did the same for ANY of your claims). It's not a justification for anything.Cpu on the ps3 overtake the ps4 cpu in the graphic task and no, you try to say ps3 cpu it's superior in some way to the ps4 cpu when it's absolutely false just to prove how fine it's to have a weaker cpu for the wiiu.
