remote play with the vita and ps4 is integrated at a system level using gaikai.

remote play on psp and ps3 had to be implemeInted by the developer on a title by title basis, and most
devs have no reason to bother. completely different ballgame.

Nintendo has made its bed. There is pretty much nothing they can do to get people who aren't Nintendo fanatics or just flush with cash to buy their consoles. Ignoring the fact that there's no graphical showpieces out on the Wii U and thus nothing to even compare to KZ4, Nintendo just doesn't appear as a blip on most people's radar. If you're not impressed with PS4 or 720 graphics you'll still get one anyway because you know that's where the games will be.
 
My oldest last night summed it up pretty good.....

"Who cares if the PS4 is more powerful and has better graphics than the Wii U. They do not come close to the games Nintendo puts out...."

Unless the market has changed that much in the last seven years -- which is honestly a possibility, though one I don't put a lot of stock into -- I'm going to say that we don't really need to qualify this with any sort of "depends on..." assessment. Even if the launch titles aren't particularly great, I'm more inclined to believe that the 55K number for the Wii U represents it being in a uniquely terrible position. Though not impossible, I think Sony is going to have to do a lot of things wrong to match that level of awful sales.

But, again, I may very well be served crow. We'll see.
 
People saying its dead, come on that's over the top. At the end of the day we don't know what the PS4 will even cost, and we don't even know what Nintendo might have in store for the Wii U. Price drop? A bunch of new games? This is all if's and buts, but we know for FACT Matroid, Smash, Mario/kart are coming. Big sellers. Even of they only sell a few million each, that's more then what most Infamous and Killzone games sell by a large margin. Both consoles can, you know sell well. Yeah its possible, craziness. CELL didn't kill 360 like people thought, the weird Wii Mote and underpowered consoles didn't kill 3DS or Wii, and RROD didn't kill the 360, and the $599 didn't kill PS3. People will by what has games that interest them. Some people are interested in Nintendo games. Crazy.

All of this 8gb ram talk. Its great, I'm happy for you guys to have the ability to play your awesome and cool games with improved graphics, that's cool. But there are others who don't really care too much about that. Doesn't mean PS4 sucks, or we hate it, or we are salty. People calling others salty are saltly themselves because people disagree with something they are ecstatic about. Just chill, and get down from cloud 9.
 
This sort of feels like a parallel to the "how's the Dreamcast going to do after the PS2 releases?" question I heard back in that era.

To Nintendo's credit though, they've got their exclusives, first party and hopefully more third-party stuff. Maybe they can get more Japanese gaming on their side, etc.

It's in a worse shape now, but like every system, it needs (more) games that make it worth buying/keeping. But I'm speaking as someone who's already got my Wii U. I'll get a PS4/720(maybe) when I see games worth getting for it.

The Wii Wheel is a gimmick. The Wii Zapper is a gimmick. The Wiimote and the GamePad are NOT gimmicks. You said it yourself, a gimmick has little relevance or use. The essence of the Wii was encapsulated by the Wiimote, and the same for the Wii U and the GamePad.

More examples. The Wiimote singing in Zelda: TP is a gimmick (they could have used a button). Kinect voice control is a gimmick (in which commands are simply button presses). More advanced Kinect use, of course, is not a gimmick.

Gimmick gimmick gimmick gimmick. God I hate that word. Gimmick.
 
To the people putting all hope into the watch dogs wii u version, here's a quote from Ubi's CEO

Today Watch_Dogs is a game created on next-gen consoles. It's then ported on other machines. We will seek the power of the new generation, then ask other teams to try to incorporate those elements in the current consoles.

So you're going to get the 360 version ported over and if you're lucky it'll be slightly better looking/running.
 
I think there is guaranteed that it will do better than 55k in January, but the question is if it will do 900k after 3 months. I don't think that $399 is a realistic price now, given the specifications.
 
I agree that Nintendo is on their own island to some extent, however, the Wii U has the massive cruise liner iOS/Android games docked offshore that the Wii didn't. I think the "casuals" that helped feed the Wii sales have defected offshore and may be difficult to lure back.

Until we are utilizing all of the next gen features of PS4 and Durango side by side with Wii U it is hard to say how "last gen" Wii U will feel. If Sony delivers on the majority of their streaming, sharing, remote play, and other non-graphics related features I have to say it doesn't bode we'll for Nintendo in terms of hardware sales and interest. Their first party games will sell well regardless.

Dismissing every PS4/720 game as same old same old while listing 20 year old Nintendo franchises as a reason to be excited about the Wii U, for one. Makes it hard to take them seriously.

He's calling it egregious that the competition is releasing more of the same, stale stuff, and then requesting more of the same stuff... but from Nintendo. If your disenfranchisement with the market place is that companies are releasing the same old stuff, hailing Nintendo as the company worth supporting is an... odd position.
 
Nintendo's marketing efforts for the Wii U have been largely inept thus far, but I expect Sony's to be as bad if not worse.

As a company, Sony has grown so utterly out of touch with consumers in almost every aspect of their business that it's hard to imagine them magically turning it around with the PS4. They still make quality products, for the most part, but they're not making products the general public wants.

I have a hunch that if you took a bunch of average consumers and let them demo the WiiU and PS4 side by side, most would probobly "feel" the WiiU is more next gen. Average people dont give a rats ass about 8 gigs of ram. Social features & streaming on the PS4 are cool but are not going to be precieved as major next gen stuff. Graphics is an area where the PS4 COULD appear next gen, but all signs point to average consumers thinking that the graphics on the PS4 are better, but not $400-500 better.

Remember I'm talking average consumers. Nintendos tablet makes it easier to experince a next gen "feeling" once you actually use it. The PS4 is selling next gen on visuals and interaction.

Mmm, it's more likely that the PS3, 360, and Wii U versions will all be downscaled separately. Not like I really care— the game coming to Wii U in the first place is a victory altogether, as pathetic as it sounds.

It´s not a matter of beating 55k, that´s a rather easy task to be honest, when even 3DSs 150k in USA last January were considered bad. It should do figures that allow to make money back on the gamedevelopment, or we´ll see further delays and mostly cross-gen ports for an even longer period, while the competition is starting to get their top franchises on the market.

Also like PSVs announcement early 2011 didn´t mean a western launch in the same year, it isn´t out of the question that PS4 will be released in 2014 in some regions.

Please enlighten me as to my agenda. I don't own a WiiU. I primarily play 360, but I've been burned enough from that shittily built console (had 3 break on me) that I'd be willing to give PS4 a real chance. Yesterday's conference did nothing to win my interest though. We'll see if MS can. I'm sure to get either a PS4 or 720 at some point, there will obviously be many must-have games for both.

Oh man, I'm totally not getting it now. Thanks for the heads up, I was hoping that the graphics of the Wii U version exceeded the PS4 so I could rub it in everyone's face! More polygons!

Or maybe people want to play it, even if its 360 graphics, cos it looks like a cool game regardless of graphics. Whoa crazy talk

PS4 version will look great, amazing even. But if its actually a good game it'll be fun regardless. 360 graphics or otherwise

Well, there is still a chance they pull a "Criterion" on this, given the amount of time they had to work on the game.

I think the problem is, he/she is already writing off Sony based off a teaser/unveiling and assuming they are going to have the same games for next generation. You never know, they might end up having games that are on par with Nintendo's, if not better. They are capable of making amazing games as well. Oh well, you are entitled to your own opinion and preferences.
 
I don't know if it's in worse shape, but I honestly don't even see the U being a serious contender at this point. It will miss out on the big name games, and it's own games will look outdated.

The Sony presentation made me feel like the U was an old piece of tech where the big innovation was playing on a controller/gamepad that doubled as a TV remote. It's not exciting at all.

That´s a rather insulting post, so you have to be a fanatic and irresponsible with money to buy Nintendo consoles? The unfounded arrogance is getting ridiculous.
 
Not sure if the Wii U is doomed or gonna die or what, but I'm getting that "Dreamcast" feeling. Probably best to jump on the PS4 or next Xbox than trying to wait out the situation on the Wii U. Either way, I'll still buy games for it and all that, but I can't help but feel like Nintendo really needs to do something about this situation.

Yeah, that's what I'm expecting. I assume that PS360 versions will be the same, but then the Wii U will be slightly better since they're downporting it directly from the PC/PS4 version. Derrick made it sound like the ports will go PC/PS4 -> PS360 -> Wii U, which I don't think is the case.

Source: my ass. I'm just speculating, lol.
 
They took a hit with the core gamer crowd, but could easily get them to purchase a second console (Wii U) with strong Zelda/Metroid/F-Zero titles. The casual gamers aren't going to care about PS4 at all so they are still up for grabs. Nintendo should just keep up their strategy of catering to all gamers groups.

Oh I agree the social crap isn't really a big draw and doesn't add that wow factor, but unless your eyes are broken if you show the "average consumer" that Capcom demo or something on the level of Agni's Philosophy, KZ4, or the UE4 demo and put it next to NSMB and Zombie U then I'm sure their decision on which "feel" more next gen would change. And that's not even the crux of the reason why I feel people won't buy Nintendo. As I said they've got a legacy of not delivering the games people want unless its Nintendo 1st party. They aren't going to instantly shake that reputation even if people think there's some sort of system parity.

It won't miss out on Nintendo games. And yeah some people don't like Nintendo games, well I don't like Killzone and Infamous or Uncharted, so there :P
 
I just want Virtual Console to start rolling out a bunch of great classics and the 1st party games to start hitting. I'm more excited about Pikmin 3 than any game Sony showed last night.
 
I really hope Nintendo does well just not dominate because I love it when they panic and try some out if left field shit. But it's funny all the people saying just because it'll run better and the graphics will be better on the PS4 doesn't mean the Wii U version won't be fun.

Now when games are released on PC in addtion to the HD twins majority of the people say it'll look better and run better they will go for that version or 360 version is better then the PS3 version so I'm getting that.
