Here's another question.

What do you think Nintendo's BIG Graphical showcase of the Wii U will be at E3? In other words, what do you think will be the prettiest game shown?

Retros game and/or Pikmin 3.

3rd partys propably WON´T use the extra power of the WiiU AT ALL. (But i like to be surprised...)

I really think Wii Music could be successfully integrated with Band Brothers. I think it could be a really amazing product if done right.

With Wii Music, each song had a set tune that you could play if you interacted correctly, as well as certain points were you could add to the song depending on the instrument. The on-disc tracks could have this mode, but underneath there could be the option of viewing each song as it's "skeleton" - which would be presented in a Band Brothers-esque fashion of buttons and broken up into each portion of the song (melody, etc.).

That way, we could have user-created content that could have its skeleton built using the Band Brothers format, but played using the Wii Music style. You could also include a Band Brothers-style mode where you simply play this skeleton with button presses ala Band Brothers (with all its difficulty modes <3). Depending on how Nintendo programmed the "additional" bits, whether they were canned or whether they were interactions with the music, user-generated songs probably won't be able to include those.

That would erase Wii Music's biggest (well, IMHO, only) flaw - a complete lack of enjoyable music to play. At the very least, I can't wait to see what Nintendo do with Wii Music U and the Nintendo Network. Give me Pokémon music as DLC pls!

What if Nintendo was making a StarFox game in the same vein as Battlefront 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j81I_-uaOqg), with seamless ground and space missions, and it looked as good as the Samaritan demo?

It wouldn't need to look as good as Samaritan! That would be amazing if done right.

Not only that but the things the controller can do with Kinect abilities. It wouldn't be the primary (only) part of control like Kinect and because of that it may "fit" better with certain types of games since it wouldn't be a primary control. Ideaman has talked about the facial recognition aspect. But having that function as a part of the controller could open up some different ideas for games. I would also assume that tells us the minimum level of the camera since Kinect used a 1.3MP camera, but I don't know what you could get away with camera-wise for something like that either.

EDIT: I got a game idea for this. An Ironman game where the controller works as the HUD.

Something like this where you're running an on rails shooter on the main TV you control with the thumb sticks while you use the tilt sensor to aim and shoot AR style could be really, really fun...

I am not sure this is the same color as the Midnight Purple at all
I don't care if its lighting its just so far from the color

Maybe I'm colorblind, but it looks like it's the same color to me. The pictures of the purple 3DS's packaging don't have any shine on them, thus it will look different.

EDIT: Look at it from this angle, and it looks like the same color.

The real question is how could a game using Mii's be hyper-realistic and detailed like in the Samaritan demo?

But if it WAS, yes I would. If it had a nice soundtrack that is.
I don't think the look or the Mii's were what made the game what it was designed for, and an HD sequel could go for a totally different look, maybe with themes based on musical styles. I'm imagining a game with a less cutesy look - imagine, for example, some jazz musicians playing their music in a dark, stormy environment, lit by passing cars and the cigarettes hanging out of their mouths.

Honestly I wouldn't be shocked by ice climbers at all. We've had them in 2 smash bros games. Sakurai was thinking about them, why not Nintendo proper?

I am. Nintendo has to establish the direction they want Wii U to go. And based on their own PR speak a current 1st party IP wouldn't cut it IMO.

Hey BG. I was just checking out the ps4 thread. Based on what you know, do you think that the WiiU will be competitive next gen? Can it even be considered next-gen? Has nintendo made another Wii level tech decision?

I disagree, third parties sure have been pushing the 3DS through its paces. Heck, a launch game, Super Street Fighter IV, uses just about all of the 3DS features, and aside from the static backgrounds and low res looks just like the XBox 360 version, complete with 60fps (in 2D).

WiiU needs to come in black at launch do not want to be wishing for other colors

lucky I have a black 3DS

A "Wii level tech decision" implies overclocked last-gen hardware, and we know for certain that's not the case.

Thinking about it further I don't think it would have to be on rails. Thinking about how it would play after the other post, my take would be that if you played on the TV it could be 3rd person, but another option is if you played on the controller it would be 1st person and would be similar to the way it worked in the movie. Or you could eliminate the 3rd person option altogether and play directly from the controller. :P

Expounding further the camera would recognize where you were looking. You move the controller screen to view the game. Left analog to control Ironman. And the mic to give commands to Jarvis.

I was going to ask where the lunchbox handle was, but I see they moved it to the menu screen.

I think they're going to push a top of the line racer pretty hard, whether it's the rumoured Concept Grand Prix or that Project CARS thing or something else entirely.

I think that we're going to see a really gorgeous Pikmin game, but it's really up in the air at this point.

I also think that we'll see a 3D Mario title teased but not playable, which will show off a new set of Mario character models. The reason that they haven't been altered since the GameCube era is quite simple: Miyamoto and the EAD teams opted to "standardize" the character models back in the GameCube era to improve consistency across all games that had the characters in them, while also decreasing development costs for themselves and other teams handling the Mario franchise.

It's been 10 years, and both the handheld and console generations have had a significant bump, so I think this will be the time that they make changes to them, and to the visual style of Mario in general. Personally, I'd like something akin to the Smash Bros. models for Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser to be the standard to set for that... but we'll see.

So are you guys still betting on a new IP rather than Starfox in here?

I think it's a safe bet. Star Fox is a great series, don't get me wrong, but it's always been a mid-cycle series and I think it will stay that way.

You're right, it wouldn't have to always be on rails. For flying sections I think it'd be the way to go though.

On the ground you could totally make it control like a third person action game on the TV with the same "in the head" control using the tilt sensor on the uPad. Hell, you could even use the camera to map your reflection onto the visor if you wanted.

Getting the animation right for the character could be tricky, but holy cow, potential big fun there.

Dammit, now you've got me all hyped up thinking about the possibilities...

Define what you mean by competitive.

Although I understand what you're asking, as long as a new console is next gen regardless of power I can only say yes.

And no Nintendo has not made another Wii-level tech decision. The available info I have would say that Wii U should still be able to get ports once all the next gen consoles are released and mature. It might not become an issue till the end of the gen once devs begin to max out PS4 and Xbox 3. But by then we'll be hearing about the next Nintendo console for all we know.

Okay, I'm gonna mark this one as VERY SALTY, but RMC and co posted a rumour that Tadashi Sugiyama is gonna show a new game for Wii U at E3.

He worked on those games:

EDIT: HILTZ, IMMA CUT YOU!

I've stated before I believe he is working with Miyamoto his new IP. My reasoning:

- The Starfox and F Zero artist works in this group. They may be using his talent on creating a new character
- Miyamoto has stated 1) he would like to work with smaller groups of younger developers and 2) that is is working on a "small but important Wii U title." Since this group has primarily produced smaller scale games (i.e. Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, Starfox 64 3D [collab with Q games], and Steel Diver [collab with Vitei)], this group would seem to fit the bill.

The "raw-power" gap between Wii U and PS4/XBox3 won't be nearly as big as it is between Wii and PS360. There will still be a definitely noticeable difference between the consoles, but it won't be as big as this gen.

Perhaps more importantly, though, the feature set gap will be almost non-existent. The main reason that we've seen barely any ports from PS360 to Wii this gen is not so much the power difference, but the fact that the Wii has a completely different GPU architecture than the XBox360 and PS3. It simply doesn't have the programmable shader capabilities that the other consoles have, so there hasn't been the option of "scaling down" a game to Wii hardware; you basically have to make the game from scratch (as with the Wii versions of the Call of Duty series, for example). With the next gen of consoles, all three will have essentially identical GPU feature-sets, just with a lot more power on the MS/Sony side of things. This means that, even with the power gap, scaled down ports will be quite doable, and we should expect a lot more multi-platform games on the Wii U than we did on the Wii.

Also worth keeping in mind is whatever special hardware Nintendo may have added to the GPU. We don't know much in the way of specifics, but it looks like there's going to be some extra units on the GPU to help with lighting. It wouldn't bring the console on par with the others, but for games that make use of it it might bring them a step closer.

The other thing I'd say to anyone worried about the hardware capabilities of the Wii is to look at some of the screenshots in the Dolphin thread. Nintendo were able to create games that looked that good on hardware that's now a decade old. Even if the console were literally an XBox360 with a Nintendo logo on the front there'd be some amazing things to look forward to, and the fact that it's a significant jump above that it just icing on the cake.

Haha. I would definitely play it if pulled off right. There's a lot of potential when combining those features together and Ironman just clicked after I posted. I would like to see what devs might be able to come up with.

Eh. I'm expecting something that matches the 360 but a bit more efficient. That's about it.

I hate rumours about fucking specs of all things (least favourite things about gaming: sales data, and hardware specs), so I'm just going in with zero expectations, because Nintendo are impossible to read on this one.

Low expectations is close enough to that for me to approve your thinking!

So did we learn that the wii u hardware is shitty? I've been reading things elsewhere that suggest as such.

There's not much in the way of concrete info out there. All we know is that it is capable at the minimum of rendering two simultaneous, at-least-360 quality screens, one at 720p and the other at 480p. Less than that seems exceedingly unlikely, more than that is unconfirmed.

Now I'm interested in this again. Sounds likely.

Damn, still 23 days...

Regarding Saturn emulation, Sega already has one (based on GiriGiri) that they've used for commercial games on PC and PSP. If Wii wasn't restricted to just 43MB it probably would've gotten Saturn games on Virtual Console. There should be no technical issues in the way for Wii U though.

Honestly I wouldn't be shocked by ice climbers at all. We've had them in 2 smash bros games. Sakurai was thinking about them, why not Nintendo proper?

Hmm, I reckon some IPs just don't have much potential like Mario, Zelda and Metroid; Kid Icarus made it to 3D as well, but I don't see how could they possibly make Ice climbers' gameplay more appealing and deeper.

You are aware that they did away pretty much entirely with Kid Icarus's gameplay with the new game, right?

Competitive like PS2 was competittive to GameCube/Xbox for exemple.
Or more simple, will Wii U be able to have port from PS4/720. I mean straight port, or port with some fonctions disabled, and the resolution lowered.

Turn it into a survival game.Maybe something like the grey (which i haven't seen yet)where you have to survive in the frozen wildness, fighting off wild animals, and you have to fashion weapons out of whatever you find.Of course they'll have to change the name Ice Climbers won't cut it.

I personally thought that about Kid Icarus, but now that I own it, I'm blown away. All it takes is for some creative minds combined with the hardware and controller and it makes for more depth, ya know?

Some legacy franchises should just be left where they are. Not to say they are bad, though. The brand recognition just wouldn't be all that much better than a new IP.
