I had the freakiest E3 dream last night. Nintendo decided to hold a extravaganza conference. they had open stadium, fireworks, Reggie flying a jetpack, Reggie in cowboy costume, Reggie kissing some woman, said woman speaking poetry about Metroid, Iwata revealing a fat black Wii?, only a glimpse of Wii U which the console now had a dial on it. The Konami guys were on stage?

People were pissed off because it was already 45 minutes into the conference and we had no idea what was going on. Nothing was announced. It was just randomness.

Then someone said this was the Pre-Pre E3 conference just to build hype... :/

Perhaps that helps a bit?

I was talking about actual sales in the US.

Behind PSP launch-aligned in the US, I mean. Sorry, I thought that was obvious.
You're going to need to post some numbers, because I have no idea where you're getting this from. Besides, I know the PSP is now viewed as a big bust in the US, but it had a really good first year. The 3DS is not behind, but even if it was it's not a big deal.

It's working. I want all of this.

Ubisoft seeks to capitalize on 'social game benefits' of next-gen consoles

Interesting parts, that could imply the Wii U, in bold:

Though Microsoft and Sony haven't revealed any details of their next-generation consoles to the public yet, Ubisoft says it's preparing to take advantage of expected social game features in the platforms.

The publisher predicts that console makers have paid attention to the explosive growth and success of social games in recent years -- particularly the free-to-play business model -- and accommodated features from that space on their next-generation systems.

"Ubisoft is positioning itself to capitalize on the forthcoming arrival of the next generation of consoles which will be increasingly connected and will strongly boost the market thanks to a new qualitative leap and the integration of social games benefits and the item based model," says CEO Yves Guillemot.

He continues, "These major opportunities will enable us to extend our global reach, increase our average revenue per user (ARPU) and therefore raise the profitability potential of each of our brands."

The company also predicts strong growth in the free-to-play market for PCs, smartphones, and tablets. Guillemot says Ubisoft has prepared for future opportunities by ramping up the online expertise of its teams, as well as recruiting and acquiring talent with online experience (e.g. Howrse creator Owlient).

Ubisoft's online and digital segment has become a critical segment for the company -- it generated €80 million ($102.3 million) from sales in that category during it last fiscal year (ending March), an increase of 110.8 percent, thanks to free-to-play titles like The Settlers Online and Howrse.

David Polfeldt, managing director at the publisher's subsidiary Ubisoft Massive, recently talked with Gamasutra about his expectations for next-generation consoles. He agreed with other developers that console makers need to make their platforms more open so studios can update their games on the fly, as they can with web and social games.

Another potential clue that the Wii U software layer and online mode will be social network/social game ready (+different vague answers from Iwata, pressure about this subject from investors, interviews, score social shared in teasing videos, some hints from a light-bulbed frenchman about that in i don't know which message + XXX + YYY + ZZZ)

I was guessing, since I thought PSP was more than 1 million ahead of DS at this point. If I'm wrong, then I'll take it.

You owe us 10 kilos of Oreo's and have to sing the Ben 10 opening theme almost naked in a public place in the biggest town near you live.

Okay.. I lost it at the "fat black Wii" part.. haha..

Ubisoft Massive on a Next Gen AAA game, maybe on Wii U ?

According to this job offer, the Swedish studio acquired by Ubi:

Looking for a great job creating games? Ubisoft Massive is currently looking for an Online Game Programmer to join us in working with a next-gen project

...

You will be developing modern AAA Online game features, taking them from a persisted backend through the game engine to the user interface. You will work iteratively in tight collaboration with other programmers, game designers and testers; to design feature code architecture to fit multiple platforms and backend. It is important that you are a strong communicator, both verbally and in text.

They previously collaborated on AC, are doing it for Far Cry 3 but it's doubtful this offer concerns the latter as it will release rather soon, and they would have named it (or maybe the Wii U version ?).

Please, Massive, a World in Conflict for Wii U, k ?

the wiiu is a Full generation leap...for Nintendo. that is what has some devs disappointed,,,not a full generation leap from the ps360 power level from a wii only console user, i am looking forward to this generation leap.

Jim Reily of GI

"Darksiders 2 likely coming mid-August."

"THQ has looking to have next-gen games at or near launch of the new consoles".

Anybody think Darksiders 2 having a later release then planned, coupled with THQ wanting to take advantage of launch hype has something to do with the Wii U's launch date? Or is this just a coincedence, and the Wii U is still a November thing?

If Nintendo is not announcing price details at E3, I do not see any way they release any earlier than October.

Ugh, I just wanted to second that I don't want to see charts and graphs at E3 this year from Nintendo. Yes, 3DS had a slow start but now it's doing quite well, time to move on

What? He wanted futuristic cabs!

Har Har I meant futuristic arcade cabinets, you numbskull! *BONK!* (Moe voice from 3 Stooges)

170k+ in Japan, according to Mediacreate I believe.

Allthough, you seem to imply that Revelations atleast made it over 500k.

If I implied that, than I apologize... 'cause its not even close.
(Again, not including Japan, which I don't know offhand)

Nintendo is not announcing price details at E3. Coupled with the "holiday release" wording, looks like the double bump a September launch would've had is out the window. Back to boring November. :(

It's more than that.. it may well be a full generation and then a fourth or a third. For anyone who has only gamed on a Nintendo console on their television, they're in for a real treat. This is going to be one of the biggest jumps we've seen a company take ever.

Yep, DX7 to DX11 and 50x the performance (maybe more). Can't wait to see what Nintendo can do with that :)

The only big leap I can think of off the bat is from the Atari XEGS to the Jaguar, going from a 1.8 MHz 6502C processor with 64KB RAM to a combination of 13.3MHz CPU, 26.6MHz GPU and 26.6MHz DSP with 2048KB RAM.

Well, that's not saying much when you are starting with Wii.

Analyst believe ubisoft will have F2P Wiiu titles this year:

Sebastian said the F2P model will broaden the content offerings on new platforms, and he expects F2P versions of Wii-U titles from Ubisoft to be released in the coming year.

“It appears that new consoles from Microsoft and Sony will also allow more integration of item-based transactions within games, including a free-to-play option similar to the model used in social and mobile games,” he said. “Ubisoft expects this to drive better monetization than what is commonly available in the current generation.

“We believe the F2P model on consoles, as part of a broad multi-platform strategy (phones, tablets, connected TVs) could drive a higher level of profitability per franchise. In addition, developers of Facebook and Mobile/Tablet games may discover a new platform opportunity for their titles in the next console generation.”

I remember play a bug-zapping game at a neighbor's house with that early Atari. Amazing how a simple game like that could keep us occupied for so long those days..

Being a miser, I"ve only paid attention peripherally. Is "F2P" just basically another term for "microtransactions"?

That's why mobile gaming seems like a behemoth. Simple games are insanely fun, if they're well designed. Complex games can be funner and more rewarding in the end, but even the best of them have the disadvantage of parts that are not as fun or sometimes not fun at all.
stupid flaming wagon escort mission!

I hate killing dreams, but it's more than clear at this point that developers don't consider Wii U next gen. It's for Orbis/Durango.

Eh.. no dreams killed here. I've always suspected the whole "ReggieFarts" mechanic to continue into this gen, regardless of hardware choices Nintendo makes. If true, it looks like they're taking the risk of writing-off another chunk of the industry's audience. I look forward to seeing how that works for 'em. >:-)

Please don't tell me you're part of that cult who believes the conspiracy theory that the industry has something against Nintendo? If the sales support the investment, the Wii-U will have it's 3rd party support IMO.

No cult or conspiracy theories or any of that jazz. Paging ShockingAlberto to explain what I mean (and he's put it far more eloquently than I). Hardware wise, both of us know that the Wii U is perfectly capable of receiving ports.

If I implied that, than I apologize... 'cause its not even close.

Oh, poor Resident Evil Revelations... deserved so much better.

See ShockingAlberto reference above (hopefully he posts to clarify what the heck I'm talking about lol)

btw who is the girl in ur avatar?

Yay, one person.
You'll find that a good number of folks 'round these parts are convinced that Nintendo and Capcom have a cozy, chummy relationship. I hope I am incorrect; I'll dance around like a madman if I am, as I'd take that as a sign of good things to come in terms of Japanese support. We'll find out in 20 days.

Don't overestimate semantics and don't underestimate individual perspectives.

Well, antonz said otherwise, and lherre probably would in a roundabout way as well.

Anyway, the point is, if you see a posting for a next-gen game it's not Wii U they're talking about.

Not a chance.

Not a chance.

Ubisofts MMO will come to the Wii U if they want it to. Anything this early on could easily be Wii U games. When Unreal 4 becomes the defacto engine and the nextbox and PS4 are out a few years then you might start worrying.

At this point every game being made thats multiplatform could come to the Wii U if developers want to take the time. Sadly its upto Wii U owners to show that they want the effort done or the well will dry

My stance remains that we won't see developers taking Nintendo seriously until there is a fundamental change in the landscape of the industry. To the point where their options become more limited in number, they will turn to Nintendo out of financial necessity.

My bet? Nintendo knows this, and is biding its time, taking steps to ensure survival.
