Better than picking and choosing the worst rumors and treating them like absolute fact like some people do.

Funny thing is, come E3, the current systems aren't going to even enter my mind if the Wii U showing is as strong as I think it will be.

Some people are going into this show with Nintendo having something to prove.

They do for stuff like online and whatnot(hope it's continually improving) but as for visuals, they only have something to disprove for me.

Meaning, I'm on board unless they really disappoint and lose me.

But IdeaMan doesn't actually work with a developer. All of his info is very much second hand, and for all we know the studios he has contact with are all putting effort into optimizing games for the Wii U's unique hardware.
And Arkam isn't a tech guy, so his information is second hand as well. Most employees at development studios couldn't really tell you much about the system, even if the studio has a devkit.

It would struggle running pong.

I'd love to see Nintendo made a special downloadable port of that Color TV Block Breaker game that Miyamoto made.

That's I think the first true Nintendo video game, the ones before were co-developed by Mitsubishi IIRC? And the first that Miyamoto did as well IIRC.

I just think it, and the device itself needs more exposure, that to me is the true first Nintendo video game, and it doesn't have an odd name like Color TV 6.

all those gold nuggets makes me a sad baguette eater
nostalgia i guess, but there was something in 70's/80's electronic devices, softwares, box arts, etc. I can remember the smell, the touch feeling, the sounds...

a truly blessed period !

hardware capabilities wise, not impressed i must confess, but not disappointed either.
the very comforting point is their enthusiasm about the asymmetrical setting of the system, the new gameplay possibilities allowed by the control schemes, the additional screen, etc. A real toy, a creative framework for them, a space to explore new gamedesigns, etc.

Let's hope this interest, this curiosity, their apparent intent to take advantage of all these new features, will come to fruition as real & fun games available at launch.

Soooo basically Wii part two. 'The Wii offers opens doors for brand new gameplay that we're so excited for!', 'We can't wait to see what type of revolutionary gameplay we can create from this thing!', 'The potential is endless!'. Heard it all before. Time, and time again. I'll be shocked if third parties actually do something with it.

It should be easier this time, since the Wii U controller offers the same features as a normal controller, in addition to all the bells and whistles.

Wii had crippled hardware, Wii U doesn't.

Big difference.

Both have the X-Factor.

Not saying it will be taken advantage of or used but I don't see much similarity to the Wii.

As well as having a compatible gpu in terms of features, which was a main deal-breaker on the Wii, which required separate teams to be used for many multiplat games.

Ideaman sounds like he was talking about a game that would launch before the Wii U does, so any game launching after the Wii U is out. My choices then would be..

- Resident Evil 6
- MoH: Warfighter
- Darksiders 2

... Can't think of anything else

Except we already know about Darksiders 2 for Wii U.
I mean, they've made a huge deal out of it.

IdeaMan's point wasn't "Hey, there's a secret game X out there!" It was that the Wii U is running an existing Xbox 360 game with at least as good fidelity but on two screens at once. And that point hasn't been brought up at all by the Darksiders team.

i'm not a very big nintendo fan these days, mainly because i'm sick of them getting away with shitty graphics and online features compared to their competitors. but if they can provide HD graphics on par with 360/ps3 and a unified online system ala PSN/XBL then i will be on board day 1! just do this nintendo! win me back!

For the very latest dev kits ?

The increase is slight as i said. And a new tidbit: it appears that even if there was a delay of 1 month+ in their delivery, the improvement is still slight, and comparable to the one related in february on those threads. In other words, my sources didn't witnessed such a boost that their projects gained 20 fps, it's less than 10.

Man, even 5 frames is nothing to sniff at.

Is this where we're posting old games we want new Wii U versions of now?

I spent many, many hours playing all these in the arcades, and Gyruss is my all time favourite arcade game. Remakes of ANY of these would make me a happy man.

You probably need to get your wallet ready.

Donnie pretty much covered it. My thought is that it would be around 576 GFLOPs (maybe higher, but not too much) and PS4 around ~1.8TFLOPs so that's about ~3x. Also I need to see PS4 and Xbox 3 with two GPUs to believe it.

Thanks for the reply.

I can't believe that guys like you and Ideaman are so confident that multi plats will be good enough on Wii U tho.

If the PS4 / 720 hardware rumours are right then you are going to have developers working on consoles that have 3 times the power graphicallly, have at least 1 GB but most prob 2GB's more Ram and most prob a much faster CPU.

If the Wii U does get ports of next gen multi platform games then they are going to look awful compared to their PS4 / 720 counterparts.

This is why if they were going after the core audience, wanted all the big multi platforms they should have made a console much more powerful than what Wii U is.

The gimmick tablet pad doesn't help either as powering another 480p visual output will further weaken the hardware available to developers.

If they wanted a console to appeal to the core and the casual they should have just included Wii Mote support on all games as an option.

I think by the sounds of the 'special hardware tweaks' done by Nintendo we could end up with Wii U being just as hard to develop for as PS3 was / is and only first party games that really push the hardware :(.

ready and willing brother! i would honestly pay $400 for said features on day 1 and i wouldn't think twice about it.

Yes FMT. Come back.

How about better than 360 graphics and an online system that uses user accounts and *should* be similar in setup to XBL/PSN?

If any other company tried to sell me a console with slightly updated graphics over the current gen, I wouldn't buy their console.

The only reason I let Nintendo get away with it is because their franchises and IP's are what sell me on their consoles above everything else (graphics, online, etc).

If Sony tried releasing PS4 with 50 percent better graphics over PS3, I wouldn't buy it.

Yeah, how dare Nintendo try and sell people games, rather than boxes.

Sorry, but this line of reasoning always confused the hell out of me.
Good Wii games looked beautiful. I mean, absolutely stunning. So what was the problem there?
And Wii U games will look even better.

The Wii U will probably be another Gamecube unless the tablet catches on and thats being said by someone that is a huge Nintendo fan.

The Wii U has potential bomb written all over it

I don't think you get my point.

I said Nintendo's games, franchises, and IP's are so strong that it makes me not care about graphics and online as much.

I can't say the same for the competition.

Estimated guess or have we heard something news?

We don't know anything concrete on how the Wii U's online infrastructure will be, but a good evolution of the 3DS's is the place to start.

Likely, built in Communities. The ability to jump in and out of games with friends at any time. Cross game voice(video?) chat seems likely, as well.
Perhaps even some interesting new features like being able to watch friends play games and such.

Nintendo's brand and franchises are a million times stronger than they were in the GC days, and they have a much more focused marketing plan. It won't sell Wii numbers, but it'll do pretty good.

I don't get this at all for any company, though.

there are 0 wii games that "look stunning". i get that art plays a factor into it and personal opinion and blahblahblah but the bottom line is there is no good looking wii game UNLESS you have never played a game on 360/ps3/pc with HD tv/monitor. the games look like shit and it's really hard to go from playing a game like god of war 3 or dead space 2 or whatever you want to name and then going back to something like xenoblade (which i like a lot but it is fucking ugly) on wii.

upgraded HD graphics will not only open up obvious differences in raw graphics but it will allow companies to use more creativity as well because their hands aren't tied by technology that was already outdated when the system launched

Strongly disagree.

Part of why MoH is my first choice.

I expect the Wii U to take off pretty fast in Japan. Their own software is extremely strong there plus they'll almost certainly have Monster Hunter landing on the system. Then whatever else Nintendo manages to secure. But the Western market is a question mark. It's one reason why it's very important for Nintendo to actually take their online features very seriously.

The box doesn't matter...to an extent.

I'm okay with Nintendo making a console that is moderately more powerful than 360/PS3 because we've never seen Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc with HD graphics like that. Wii U is a giant leap over Wii.

Sony and MS are in a diff position. If they released consoles barely more powerful than PS3/360, people will just ask why they didn't just keep making games for PS3/360. The general response will be "oh people are tired of PS3/360 after 6 years, they want something new"....But if they want something new...Sony and MS can't just release something slightly better because that wouldn't feel new. In a way, Sony and MS keep raising the bar way too high for themselves.

I loved the Wii, own a ton of games, but I wouldn't say the games were stunning. I'd say some, like super mario galaxy, were "amazing looking for a wii game" which is completely different. i agree with fmt here though, if it had the same graphics but hd capability, the wii would have sold even more
