I loved the Wii, own a ton of games, but I wouldn't say the games were stunning. I'd say some, like super mario galaxy, were "amazing looking for a wii game" which is completely different. i agree with fmt here though, if it had the same graphics but hd capability, the wii would have sold even more
there are 0 wii games that "look stunning". i get that art plays a factor into it and personal opinion and blahblahblah but the bottom line is there is no good looking wii game UNLESS you have never played a game on 360/ps3/pc with HD tv/monitor. the games look like shit and it's really hard to go from playing a game like god of war 3 or dead space 2 or whatever you want to name and then going back to something like xenoblade (which i like a lot but it is fucking ugly) on wii.
upgraded HD graphics will not only open up obvious differences in raw graphics but it will allow companies to use more creativity as well because their hands aren't tied by technology that was already outdated when the system launched
because this generation was the generation where HDTVs EXPLODED in the market, and people were looking for ways to utilize it. Go to best buy or whatever they'll say to get an xbox 360 or playstation 3 and whatnot and so on to take advantage of your new HDTV.How, exactly?
It wouldn't have changed what games it got, and in fact, would have likely just increased the price.
Not by enough to justify the increase in price, I can tell you that much.because this generation was the generation where HDTVs EXPLODED in the market, and people were looking for ways to utilize it. Go to best buy or whatever they'll say to get an xbox 360 or playstation 3 and whatnot and so on.
Definitely would have helped sales. How much is something nobody can say, but it would have helped.

I think people would have looked at the Wii differently if the games looked dolphin quality or a little worse on their tv. gamers are usually pretty studious and well versed in technology, and they can tell that the wii is not producing HD visuals. there would have been a lot more core games that would have bought the wii, along with the amount of casual users, this could have increased the wii sales to an even higher level. oh well, hopefully they do right with both parties with the wii u, which it looks like they are trying
I still don't think it really makes sense to compare games graphically between different platforms. It's not really fair to criticize a DS game for its graphics compared to a PSP game or a Wii game. That's not the developer's fault.
I also have no problem going back and forth between high-end PC games (there you also have PC gamers complaining about how all 360 games look like crap) and low-end iPhone games. I guess I'm just really good at scaling my expectations and standards for each game according to its own platform. I've already been visually impressed by 3DS games for instance, despite the PlayStation Vita existing.
I think that's a pretty bold claim. I think you're wrong to reject the idea that there exists a notable market of people who chase after certain experiences be it motion gaming, or be it HD gaming, or online gaming (or both!).Not by enough to justify the increase in price, I can tell you that much.
No one was buying the 360/PS3 because they were HD. And an HD Wii wouldn't have done anything to help its sales (which are already colossal).

I'm not gonna argue whether it would have been worthwhile, but potentially it could have helped. As for the logistics and nintendo's bottom line, it's hard to argue where they got now, wii sold like hotcakes hardware wise. On the development side and game sales side, well it goes without saying HD would have helped.

yeah but I'm sure a lot of wii owners also owned other systems. Now if they got the same games, maybe they don't go and buy it for ps360 and instead get it for the Wii because why not.Except that being HD with the same graphics (the original argument that was made) it wouldn't have gotten any different games.
At all.

It still would have suffered from a lack of 360/PS3 level shaders and RAM. So, we'd have an increase in price for basically no gain, other than making a couple of forum goers happier.
take a look at the wii's sales (hardware and software) from the past couple years and compare it to 360

But that's what he, and I, said. Skyward Sword in HD looks stunning, so does Mario Galaxy. On the TV, it does not look nearly as good (even though the art style is incredible).
Yeah, to add a tacked-on multiplayer component nobody will play and will suck anyway.
Right, but how would being HD with the same graphics that the Wii outputs now help the situation?
Again, this is the original argument that I countered.
oh it wouldn't. my main point to begin with was that i'm tired of nintendo skimping out on horsepower, which is what they did with the wii and 3ds and etc etc. nintendo needs to release a modern system that can at least match what xbox 360/ps3 can do now (not just upscaling wii games to 720p)
I can only list like 5 games that had great graphics on the Wii. 2 of them were the Mario Galaxy games.
So.... The Wii U?

back to my original point! that is what i'm hoping for!
I think PS1 games look stunning and everyone who thinks I'm wrong sounds like they're obnoxiously stating a fact.
Nintendo holding back on graphics only has a small percentage to do with cost/price of hardware. Nintendo is really just scared about game budgets exploding and needing larger teams to make games. Ever since Iwata became president, the guy repeats himself like a parrot about how they are lacking resources to make games. They had to get Retro's help on Mario Kart 7. They had to get Monolithsoft's help on Skyward Sword. So obviously Nintendo feels they are low on staff, and low on teams to work on a bunch of AAA projects. Especially when their teams are divided up on 3DS too.
Nintendo doesn't want to raise the bar on graphics because then they'll be forced to meet that high bar with all of their games. And they don't want to spend that kind of money.

That game is stunning. What is it?
FINALLY SOMEONE WITH SENSE

NO GAME WILL EVER LOOK THIS GOOD AGAIN
Well, "specs" have just come from rumors; not officially confirmed by Nintendo.

I would non-sarcastically call this game stunning

But what do I know.
You are telling people that they are wrong for finding a sub-PS3/360 game stunning?
Are you kidding me? At least try to not make it sound like you're obnoxiously stating a fact.
Hold on now.i'm saying if you literally find the graphics in any wii game "stunning" then i'm curious as to how you would describe even an average 360/ps3/pc game

As far as stunning games on the Wii go:

And it looks a lot better on the screen.

Hold on now.
If we're judging things in graphical tiers, which I have no problem with, we can't put PC together with the rest.
Mainly because my main beef with PS360 games comes down to IQ, resolution, AA, and framerate, all things where the PC runs circles around them.

GameTrailers gave it the Best Looking Game of E3 award.
GAMETRAILERS. BEST LOOKING GAME. A WII GAME!
100% agree with you!
And despite this, I don't necessarily think all PS360 games are precluded from looking nice from an artistic perspective.
Completely depends on the game.
Personally, I find games like God of War 3 fairly boring looking. Big production value, sure, but boring.
Though, Uncharted (especially 2) has some gorgeous environments.
And this game:

Barely even pushes the system, but looks amazing.
