I'm betting a large part of Microsoft's presentation will be focusing on the new XBox contract plan and Halo 4, and I'm sure they've got some aces up their sleeve. I think they are just being pretty successful at keeping things close to their vest this year, which is why we have no idea what they are going to really show.

But I too think Nintendo's going to get the lion's share of the attention this year because of their next-gen game console with its tablet controller.

I think they'll talk about apps too. I can't see them only talking about these things though. MS and Sony have to have something up their sleeves. MS needs to show some games along with Halo 4 and I'm not sure about Sony. They seem to have blown some of their software reveals pretty early.

Why is the sub-title of this thread the final frontier if this is not the final thread?

Wii U Speculation Thread VI: Beating the record of fasting ending thread by post count.

As Ace said, the new thread should get posted in gaming, and will remain there for a couple of days, then tossed into community.

Tossed. Nicely put:)

My regular lurking around here will go way down and I can't even explain why do I find it so hard to make an aditional click or two to chech the community part of gaf. It just kindda feels off-site or something.

As Ace said, the new thread should get posted in gaming, and will remain there for a couple of days, then tossed into community. There will be a redirect on the front page to it, and I suspect it will be well near the top of regular community threads.

I suppose everybody can live with that :)

Now, let's get hyped for those three big Nintendo events!

Didn't originally have title. I think that an admin decided to link it to that crappy movie.
Correct. I just posted the thread without subtitle for a moderator to add one if it should become appropriate. If the next thread should continue a Star Trek themed subtitle, it would be The Wii U Speculation Thread VI: The Undiscovered Country (country changed to something more fitting). This has been suggested before, but I don't know what the word had been changed to.

I like it, but I think it has to be in reference to something. No Star Trek series hit 6 seasons, and X-Files had moves after #5 and then again after the final season (which was 9 or 10).

Hrm...

I'm assuming that it's a reference to "Community" or something.

edit: I shall do my best to respect the time honoured tradition of ignoring everybody and coming up with a title that is universally hated.

The Wii U Speculation Thread VI: The last one, Wii promise U

Though I do like this one. And the one I quoted earlier where the tagline is just "How?"

Looks like Ideaman is finally a "member". This should be fun :)

But then when will they announce the price? TGS?
They need time for pre-orders, etc.

I think they are pushing for manufacturers to be done by Q3 to get enough stock for a Q4 release. And they will reduce the Wii price early just to help retailers get rid of excess stock, and make space for the WiiU displays.

You're probably right. I can't really see them releasing as early as September. Still..

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=38063906&postcount=18317 is very intriguing

The Wii U Speculation VI: The Undiscovered Community

it will feature a 5-panel photoshop of the ending of Star Trek VI where the Pikmin crew of the USS Wii gets decommissioned after saving the galaxy

...

Man I wish there was new news

Do you think if Goodfeel does YI 2 it won't turn out like Yoshi's Story? Only reason I worry is because Epic Yarn shares the same sort of theme (and from what I've heard, difficulty)

I'd obviously prefer they make it challenging like the YI games but I'm not too worried either way because while Epic Yarn was easy, it was still a really fun game and the jewel/bead system at least gave you a reason to try and survive plus it had lots of stages to explore and unlock, nice level design and cool bosses. Definitely can't say any of that for Yoshi's Story which was so easy it was literally made for preschoolers, had open-ended and bland levels with no challenge or objective other than eating a bunch of fruit, very short length and weak bosses. And Epic Yarn has co-op gameplay which also adds greatly to its value. If YS had been handled more like Epic Yarn it could've been one of the greatest N64 games instead of such a huge disappointment. But of course modeling after YI would be much better.

So the conference is going to be broadcast commercial-free on Spike and MTV2? Well that came out of left field. Hopefully that means they're going to try to keep the business talk to a minimum.

I personally think it would be a very smart decision to launch in September. For idiotic reasons lots of developers like putting out their biggest software at the exact same time, so that the best games just don't sell very well with all that competition. If the Wii-U came out in September it'd be able to beat the rush, and by the time the holidays came around they'd have already had multiple shipments of the system rather than have holiday shoppers competing with early adopters. And that would allow developers to release their holiday Wii-U games whenever they wanted rather than wait for the Wii-U release.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but it brings up an interesting idea for the square below the d-pad on the controller.

http://www.nintendofrontier.com/2012/05/redesigned-wii-u-controller-break-down.html

some are suggesting that it may be a trackpad for the touch screen, much like what you would find on some smartphones. This would make clicking on some things on the screen easier as you would never actually have to move your hand.

I'm sure this has been mentioned here before, but it's the first I've heard of it and I think it would be pretty cool if this turned out to be what it is for.

I wonder if they are waiting to see announcements from Sony and/or Microsoft on a price cut before they announce their price. I know they say they don't pay attention to those two, but that's bullshit.

Hopefully they announce date and price before September. Would be nice if it comes later in June or early July.

I just kind of assumed that, beyond those, they'd just focus on that which they've been focusing on for the past couple of E3s:

Hm, I like that it's more than just time or just a number of posts. Combining the two usually weeds out more trolls and miscreants I'm guessing.

I just realized that the Wii U will probably have SpotPass like the 3DS. I don't know why that excites me for some reason.

It would be nice if developers utilized it for free DLC, like some do on the 3DS.

How many time pass before a lurker becomes Junior Member?

You must fulfill two conditions:
1. You must be registered for 90 days. (IdeaMan registered 2/21 and today is 5/21. 29+31+30 = 90 days)
2. You must make 300 posts.

Usually, it takes over 90 days to get approved, so in general, after 300 posts, they'll become a member.

I don't think there's any chance we'll hear any info about a price until like a month before release. At least that's what they've done in the past if I remember correctly.
