The Wii U Speculation Thread VI: The Undiscovered Country

I mean i'm still getting one but that doesn't mean that i'm not fearful for it's future. Especially considering some of my fav games are getting sequels late in this consoles gen. Wouldn't want the WiiU to miss out and i'd rather not get more than one console especially since the days for third party exclusives are over. I can live without Micro and Sony's first party efforts. In before being called bias, I've owned all three consoles this gen.

As they say, hope for the best but expect the worst; don't let hope get in the way of expectations, so that when we eventually find out no GTA 5 or UE4 there is little disappointment.
If it's not there they will just be one sale short I know it won't matter to R* but that's just a decision I made last year Wii U multi platform titles will get my money if it's not there I'm not buying it.

Hello, Cookie_Aroma from GameFAQS here. I'm surprised nobody else has debunked this Twitter post yet. The person who made up this tweet made one little mistake (actually two as Yani pointed out). Take a look at the screen capture that the person who saw the tweet took:

http://i.imgur.com/oGhal.png

Let's compare that to Sakurai's Twitter page now:

http://i.imgur.com/5sTHX.jpg

Do you see it yet? See the Tweets count in the upper-right-hand corner? It reads "8807 Tweets" for both images. This is the problem. The tweet with the 2 of 3 message should say 8808 tweets if it was actually legitimate. That coupled with the fact that the only witnesses to this tweet were 2 people from the same board (And as Yani pointed out, the tweet says expand instead of view conversation), I'm positive this is a fake.

This kind of thing is actually very easy to photoshop (or gimp in my case). See?

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
I keep saying this, but 3rd party wise, Japanese support is going to be very interesting to see. Other than a few games announced last year, Japanese 3rd parties have been virtually silent. I'm still expecting 1 Japanese 3rd party megaton.

Not sure if he was suppose to talk about it, but the director of Project Cars confirms they're working on a Wii U version.

We kind of already knew about it, but he says it right out. He can't talk about development for it, but they'll be showing it at E3, it seems.

Thanks for that.

A PCars WiiU version was already confirmed but it's awesome to know that they'll show it -in some way- at E3.

It also seems that they want to take advantage of the lack of sim-like racers on Nintendo systems/WiiU which sounds great - hope they'll set the bar high for others to follow.

Clearly, the coming of Project Cars on Wii U set a different tone for the system in regard to this genre.

I said exclusive though...

I'm just not too hopeful. Japanese developers have failed to deliver this generation, even on 360/PS3. Western studios don't like to take risks.
I don't even remember the announcement of a single exclusive Wii U title that's meant to be published by a Western 3rd party besides Rabbids Wii U and Killer Freaks. Perhaps those titles were just not very far at last E3, but perhaps 3rd parties take just the easy route again and port, port, port.

How could a 3rd party game on a Nintendo system be a megaton? :(

Its actually kind of interesting to think of..

Nintendo home consoles haven't played home to some major franchises including Assassin's Creed and GTA

There hasn't been a proper numbered Final Fantasy in nearly 20 years. A proper Metal Gear... even if I love Twin Snakes

A proper Dead Space or a Resident evil in 8 years (yes we had RE 4 re-release)

No Battlefield or a Castlevania game since the N64...

Etc

Agreed.

Wasn't there a rumor floating around about a first-party(?) sim-ish racing title, being developed for the WiiU?

There was a rumour that British Lucid Games is doing something.

The context was about a 3rd party exclusive. I also don't think a 3rd party port is a megaton, but well, lowered expectations may transform it into one.

Agree. One of the top things I wonder about regarding this system is whether Japanese support is going to show-up in a big way. The ingredients are in place. The companies (well.. the ones who are still around, hehe..) have hopefully learned a lesson or two about betting solidly against Nintendo over the past generation. And it's a "safer" step in power/features for those companies who are uncomfortable with going all-in as far as power and development expenses are concerned.

If Nintendo gets Japanese third-party support to increase notably while Western third-party support remains anemic, I'd still consider the Wii U a solid victory as far as that arena of progress is concerned.

Oh I wasn't answering that question
I was just thinking outloud because your post reminded me
Sorry for the confusion.

I am still hopeful Japan devs can make a huge turn around, I've been troubled by the egos jumping ship from the major companies to start their own stuff but delivering very little in return... I am not sure if that is where the major WiiU exclusive will come from but we seriously need some 3rd Parties to commit some exclusives to WiiU Nintendo has to shop around for that it is needed to solidify some base before the next gen from SONY/MS start up

ports can only go so far to get the core over to WiiU

I think we are missing something... I think its something like Skyrim / Diablo 3 type game being exclusive not those two IPs but something like them could work well

something Indie too would work nicely

Ubisoft exclusives I am not sure how long those last before they are ported elsewhere

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Metro: Last Light is focusing on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A Wii U version is in the works, but is unlikely to launch alongside the others. See here.

I would love to see the amount of money that would convince Rockstar to make GTA V Wii U exclusive.
probably somewhere in the neighborhood of a kajillion dollars

Beyond Good & Evil 2?

I wish. I really, really wish.

Then again, I'm a bit worried from the art/screens that I've been seeing. I really hope that they keep that cartoonish look that the world of Hyllis had; that was a fundamental part of the charm, the appeal.
