the wire or game of thrones?

my buddy abandoned me in torchlight 2 to go do who knows what with his girlfriend....so I'm gonna watch the first 1 or 2 episodes of the wire or game of thrones. never seen either of them.

which show, overall, is better
and
which should I start with?
or
does anyone want to run mapworks with my lvl 48 character on synergies? lol
 
I love Game of Thrones, but easily go for The Wire.

Admittedly, when I started watching The Wire, I had to plow through episodes.

If you've only got a little bit of time for an episode or two, I could see going for GoT.
 
I haven't seen GoT, but I already know The Wire is not only better, but in a different league. GoT is probably fun TV, but The Wire is great TV.
 
Both are the shit. You can't go wrong either way, but I guess watch The Wire first only because the complete series is available. Then get started with GoT.
 
Ehh, The Wire is by far the better show, but you need to be able to invest more than a measly 2 episodes before you start to realize how great it is.

If all you have is 2 episodes worth of attention to throw at them, GoT will give you more instant gratification there.

So go with GoT. With your time restriction its not about which show is better overall, its about which stuffs more attention grabbing stuff in the first two episodes. I vote Wire as the better overall show, but GoT has a more high octane first two episodes.

The wire. Game of thrones is amazing, but the wire is a more developed experience. Watch game of thrones after this season ends though.
 
I'm a GoT fan, but it tries to squeeze too much in and so isn't good overall as The Wire. The Wire is harder to get into though and doesn't really start shining until season 2 and can't be appreciated until you've gotten through the first 3-5 episodes.

Personally, if you haven't yet, I'd say go w/ with The West Wing. It is easier to consume a few episodes at a time.


If you do go w/ GoT just to see what the big deal is, go all in and be ready to binge the hole 10 hrs of the first season cause it is big cliffhangers and plot twists at the end of each episode.
 
The Wire. I've tried to give GoT a chance, but just can't get into it. The Wire is just fantastic. I can't get past the setting and style of GoT.
 
Well one show is completed, the other is in the middle of its story. So you can't really say.

Although, as much as I love GoT, I doubt it will ever be better than The Wire in my mind. The Wire is arguably the best show ever created.

I'm thinking I'll go with game of thrones for tonight, and then finish season 1 tomorrow. then 2 on monday, and then start the wire. that's pretty much what I did with breaking bad and I loved it.
 
the wire is great, but it's got quite a singular voice which can get a little grating. game of thrones is semi-trashy light fantasy excellence.

The first couple episodes of the Wire really suck. It was hard for me to start watching it at first; but once you pass those couple episodes, things start to shine and you'll find yourself binging on the show like a pathetic heroin junkie.
 
Game of Thrones. The Wire is excellent but GOT has a more enjoyable tightly told story. That said you cant really lose and you need to view both at some point.
 
The Wire has a slow build but once it's established, shieeeeeeeeeeeet!

GoT is fucking confusing when viewed episodically for one. I had to down the season 1 in a few days and it was still pretty mind numbing at times.
 
Man, people keep talking about boobs, but they only talk about GoT. Why has everyone forgot Orlando's?

If there is one thing I can say about Game of Thrones, that story is in no way tight.
 
I remember when I started watching The Wire after GAF told me it was the greatest show ever made, and guess what, it was just ok.

So I would say either, both are "good".
