who would win in a fight brother mozone or barista selmy

In Hamsterdam, Brother-man would win. That said Omar would own in Westeros. Geoffery would cut Ziggy's tongue out. Tyrion would flourish in the world of the wire.
He'd drink with McNulty and Ziggy. Make deals with String and lord KNOWS he and Omar would appreaciate each-other's respect for "the game"

so I finished the first 3 episodes of GoT. I want to finish the season, but I gotta be up in 6 hours. smh.

I just want the damn eggs to hatch. I also can't believe the main character and one of the top badasses so far has a name like ned starks.

Season 2 of the wire is really bad you guys. It's not debatable. The only redeeming parts were the cutbacks to the barks dale/ stringer storyline.

It's not bad in the slightest and it's actually probably the most important season in regards to seeing the entire picture. It's the first time we see that the show isn't actually a "cop show" about drug dealers and the cops who are chasing them, and that it is actually far more than that. It's incredibly important to see the working class dudes in season 2 and the whole "death of labor" thing.

Season 2 has McNulty and the prostitutes, which is one of the best scenes in the series.

edit: and of course it has Frank, one of the best characters in any TV series.

edit 2: and if you want to get into Game of Thrones territory, season 2 of the Wire has Nick's girlfriend who has awesome boobies

Not enough dragons obviously.

Seriously though, excellent point. The Wire is tight, long form story telling at it's best.

We already saw the death of labor in the first season. The fact that so many people have to resort to drug trafficking clued us into that.

None of those people in season 1 were blue-collar workers though. And it's an entirely different subset of society.

I dunno, it just seems really tangential. It's also a bit
contrived that McNulty just happens to discover a dead body connected to the warehouse smothering thing, just after he is assigned to the boat.

They surely could have showed the death of labor better following something closer to the barksdale crew. Like for instance, construction.

Amazing cap to one of the best seasons of TV, about to start reading Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets.

That book is fucking amazing. Seriously one of the best books i've read in my life. When you go back and watch The Wire after that you'll have so much more knowledge of how the homicide department works that it'll be an entirely new experience

It worked fine for me...
Season 2 shows us where the drugs come from and how much bigger the problem is than kids on the street and drunk detectives. We see a city where getting a legit job and keeping it is hard. We see it's not just affecting the black neighborhoods. We see the supply dwindle in a way that dirctly impacts the characters in Season 3 with beautiful dramatic irony.

I guess I would choose game of thrones of the two. The Wire is like watching someone die of cancer. It may be compelling but it is not entertaining.

Oh yes it is. The Corner is probably too depressing forme but The Wire had a lot of humour and fun with its characters, which is what made it seem true to life and go beyond the book or what you read in the papers. It does take time though, so if you can't marathon it, something like Justified or The Shield is probably better.

I'm not sure if I would find GoT to be great TV. It's good and very impressive, but I find myself not really paying 100% attention to it having read the books. At times it just feels like a big logistic exercise, how do we fit all all these characters in all these places into these many episodes for these many minutes? Sometime I wish I could have kept the books' POV structure.

For the love of all things good: The Wire. It's not even close. I'm not saying GoT is bad The Wire is one of the most perfect TV shows ever made (save for the dip in season 5).

Forget Winter, OMAR's coming!

The Wire is about as much of a "crime drama" as Game of Thrones is a "fantasy" story. The genres of both stories are just a backdrop to the real meat of their respective storylines and themes

The Wire is easily a much better show, mostly because it is written for TV and much more focused. GoT is highly entertaining, but works better as a book. It is all over the place in season 3, and it will not become any better in that regard.

FRANK SOBATKA

I've been off GAF for a while. Not sure why everyone be trolling GoT so hard...

Pointing out that a mediocre show is mediocre is trolling?

Shit it's like HBO is trolling its subscribers with Game of Thrones. This is the network that made shows like The Sopranos, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, The Wire, In Treatment, etc. and now outside of Treme (with only five more episodes) they don't really make anything that special.

As others have said, if you're only going to invest two episodes Game of Thrones would be a much better choice. The Wire is a vastly superior show but will provide almost no entertainment in the first two episodes.

the fact that the game of thrones HBO series is good enough to even be compared to The Wire in this way is already a huge win in my eyes. Love the books and never thought it could be adapted with such quality.

As a fan: game of thrones
Objectively: probably The Wire

The Wire shits from an enormous height on the Game of Thrones TV show. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about.

The point that everyone is saying, "give the Wire a few episodes", cannot be stressed enough. This show was recommended to me by a friend. The first three episodes did not do the best job to win me over . . . .

. . . . I've watched through the entire series 4 times already.

Sooooo goooood. You really do become involved in its universe.
