The Witcher 3 - Official Xbox One gameplay

I just finished it on Hard again (which is actually much easier than the pre-nerf Normal in some ways) and pretty much every single non boss enemy without a shield could be mashed to death with quick attacks without interruption. I didn't even see the point of the heavy attack on the majority of enemies outside of Endrega's either.

I did mine on Dark if we want to measure our difficulty setting dicks :D Grind was <33

Heavy attack for sure is way too slow and sluggish in TW2, for how long it takes to do and connect it usually just don't deliver enough in damage. I hope TW3 has rebalanced attacks little bit more so heavy feels more useful.

I think we can agree that TW2 has somewhat janky yet simple combat system that has flaws? :D If TW3 is less animation bound and dodging [roll/step] and quen aren't as OP that alone is decent improvement imo.
 
Game looks absolutely great to me. I expected the xb1 version to look worse than this tbh but it doesn't look any different to the ps4 version. I hate the tree pop-in and would honestly prefer that my camera be completely blocked by a tree instead of seeing a tree go in and out of existence, it's really distracting and immersion breaking. In terms of the combat I agree with those that say that it does look a bit repetitive but I'm hoping since the player is likely level 1 that the combat becomes upgraded and more diverse as you progress through the game.
 
Yeah, because in Fable you would jump great distances between enemies, twirling through the sky right? Animation wise and mechanically it's closest to the Batman games. Just because it doesn't have a critical combo counter doesn't change that fact.



They even said when they developed TW2 that Arkham Asylum was a huge influence.

Anyone who says Witcher 2 plays like an Arkham game is just drunk. Period. It's controls way different. It may have a few similarities but not enough to call it Rocksteady's Freeflow. So lay off the Tequila will you?

This almost never seems to happen, but hopefully the higher you raise the diffiuclty, the less passive additiotnal enemies in packs are.

Also, Quen in its current form isn't really in the realm of being "OP" outside of Dark Mode. Not anymore at least. Did you play the game on PC before EE? (BTW, Hard was pretty much Dark back then...). Quen was broken as shit back then.

Yeah, downloaded the Gamersyde version and it's present there too. Probably (and hopefully) an issue inherent to the footage, cause no way stuff like that wouldn't get flagged.

On another note, I find it funny that anything related to Xbox One seems to incur an automatic amount of dislikes on YT. People are so childish.

Of course the picture will be '1080p' because it was upscaled to fit the size of your display (if it's 1080p). It sounds like he's claiming that since a TV is 1080p, game is 1080p (native).

If you download the 60fps footage of the pc version, you will see judder here and there too.

At least they are promising that enemies become more aggressive and get more abilities as you crank difficulty up, I hope difference is noticeable.

I played it through of Normal before EE, but only once and got distracted by other games. Now that TW3 is around the corner I decided to go at it with greater focus and high difficulty. I have heard about pre-EE balancing and even on Normal Quen was basically godmode.

i doubt he doesn't know what he's doing here. he's a marketing exec. its what they do for a living. more like intentionally misleading language that people who don't know any better are going to latch onto to make themselves feel better.

is simply inaccurate. I'm replaying W2 on Dark Mode right now and in the first combat section of the prologue alone, there are three non-shielded enemies which will routinely parry your blows -- Count Etcheverry on the walls, the Black Knight by the ballista, and the Black Knight in the turret leading to Aryan. And in Flotsam, there's Dimitri, and all the Squirrels in the forest and the Troll and the Wraith, and, well, I could go on and on.
 
Gamersyde's non torrent download completed for me but stops playing after 2 minutes and loops back at the start...oh well,looks better then the YouTube anyway and looks great on the X1,this makes me happy for my PS4 copy...anyone know if this will pre download,I got it pre-ordered but not downloaded yet.
 
So... I'm starting to get the feeling it's all bogs and woodland.

Plz have more of that one amazing screenshot from a desert. Hoping for some flotsam style forest as well.
 
Think Danny from gamespot said there's some incredible outdoor areas still under wraps. I wouldn't be concerned its all woodland and bogs anyway.

Sure he said the southern part is very good.
 
Fuck people are complaining about combat, im already glad combat looks better then skyrim.

I really don't understand why people expect Blood borne level of combat in such a huge and insane game. Do you guys realize BB was handcrafted? each and every level designed to have a certain flow to it?

So dynamic would be between native 900p (upscaled to 1080p) to native 1080p when possible. &#128535; is that correct?

Same as COD? Although did anyone notice when COD switched resolutions during gameplay because I know I didn't?
 
You can tell its a lower res than 1080p but it still looks pretty damn good. My biggest concern would be the framerate because its all over the place. Now the question is is that the game or how it was captured? Hopefully we can find out soon by way of DF.

Would someone mind re-hosting the video from Gamersyde? The download from either of the servers is going too slow.

Use the torrent. I was getting over 1mb/s with it.
 
so its like dead rising 3's scaling resolution depending on framerate.....that's pretty cool, was great tech to be honest and will probably be used in the future more often...giving calm scenarios that really clean look where when action gets heavy it downs it because half the time with that much shit going on, no one is really paying attention at that point.

I thought DR3 was 720p all the time, and the framerate still dropped into the teens.

I'm actually quite the fan of dynamic resolutions. I think they are great to prevent framedrops. Some games drop resolution dynamicly in order to prevent the framerate from dropping. Wipeout for example.
So the game stays at a certain resolution for most of the time and when there is an unusual amount of stuff happening it drop the resolution instead of frames.

I just think Witcher is doing it the other way round: Game will stay at lower resolution usually and is going up when there is unusually little stuff happening on screen. So not really about preventing the accasional framedrop.
Of course I don't know, but that would be my guess.
WipEout HD was also pushing well past the 720p norm though, and at closer to 60fps. The equivalent now would be stepped horizontal res between 1920 x 1620 and 2880 x 1620.

The Gamersyde video is ~40,000 kbps, that is better than Blu-ray quality.
Blu-ray video's compressed professionally, maximum audio+video bitrate is 48Mb/s and those bits stretch much further with 24frame 1920x800 (give or take) content. Without supersampling, games have more high frequency detail which is harder to compress too.
 
Does the Xbox one or ps4 digital versions of the game / preorders come with the ost or any extras? Though this is probably not the right thread to ask this.

It doesn't jump from 900 to 1080 in one step (probably in steps of 10 pixels). I would bet 2 things. 1: You would never notice it...and 2: Someone on GAF will claim they can see the change
