Well it was developed on pc I'm assuming, So it's not a port.
It consistently drops below 30? Which review states that? Even from the videos (admittedly few), I can't recall consistent framerate problems.
reviews have indicated frame drops on the ps4. devs have stated that a day one patch will correct this.
There is no PC port p sure PC is the lead platform.
As for how good it will be, probably really good.
The Gamespot video review was full of them anytime combat started and with some slight judder during cutscenes. A lot of reviews have mentioned frame-rate issues but YMMV on how much of a deal breaker it is. The reviewer mentioned later on a stream that he didn't feel the frame-rate issues were that annoying overall, but they are present. Like I said, people have a different tolerance level for that sort of thing.
They said there is a day one patch to help but let's reserve assuming it will fix all the issues until it's actually out.
I recommend this video to see how good the PC version looks. Yeah it is Youtube but you can see how alive the world is @60fps. Here's another from the intro that looks great as well.

They still could have made a much better looking version that could reach 60 FPS. I don't see any legitimate excuse. To supposedly use basically the same assets makes no sense.
I didn't watch the Gamespot review, I'll take your word for it. We'll just have to wait and see how much ironing out that patch can do.
They are not done milking BioWare. EA only buys up a new company when they get rid of the dry corpse of the old one.

Why would they do that? Making stuff especially for the highest end pcs, which are always a moving target, is not a good idea.
To be fair, W1 was kinda of a train wreck at launch and W2 also had some pretty big issues for many people before they patched it. And those were PC exclusives.
People that are wary, should really wait. There's a LOT of us here with PC preorders and we'll report things Day 1.

Combat that can be breezed through without a challenge is not fun to me. Want to actually get killed sometimes. Makes it more intense. Based on what the Gamespot reviewer said, I was thinking maybe hard. As a first time Witcher player, what do you guys think?

I haven't tried playing Witcher 1 in years, but I remember upgrading my graphics card before Witcher 2 released and loading up Witcher 1 just to see the improvement. At the time, Witcher 2 easily ran better than Witcher 1 on my rig.

So no, they aren't a "PC company" just because their first game was a PC exclusive, while their second started out on PC first. They are a games developer.
The combat doesn't look any different from the previous game other than the animations, and there was nothing "high level" regarding the combat in that, no matter the diffiuclty. Someone was saying that it looked like Fable combat, and while I think it's closer to being between that and a Batman game, they weren't far off. In TW2, you can just mash light attack for the majority of the enemies with the very infrequent Yrden and even less frequent Aard.
It's also telling how the Gamespot review even commented on how easy the game becomes and that you should probably start on a difficulty level higher than what you normally would. This isn't doing the expected combat of TW3 any favors, especially if you were already going to start out on Hard for your first playthrough.
Combat is never really a focal point of these kinds of games, but I don't know why developers insist that this barely acceptable stuff is what people actually want. Why does good combat and good roleplaying have to be mutually exclusive? CDPR's recent comments act as though fans of RPGs don't like action games or any kind of combat requiring skill.
A real open world game with Dragon's Dogma or Dark Souls (or even Bloodborne) combat would be to die for. Which is why it will never happen.
The games are after the books. Pretty sure the books are done and anything new released were prequels.
Sapkowski's books were finished years ago. The story in the games was written by CDPR and takes place 5 years after the events in the books.
I did too for about a day. I've been trying to keep busy with Bloodborne and the Old blood, then back to the new order.

Author has said that the games aren't officially canon if I recall correctly. I assume he doesn't want to close doors in case he ever wants to write more.
But the games are canon in my book.

Usually there's a really brutal option but it isn't recommended for people who aren't familiar with the game. I'll likely start on hard.

Sapkowski wrote a book that was released a year ago or so and it was a prequel (and was awesome).
He may not want to admit it but I doubt he would want to write anything that would contradict the games at this point.
Kotaku said the second half was too easy.

The complaints about the story in the IGN review feel weird to me. It almost feels as if he's complaining that this isn't some "Save the world, you're the chosen one" story that has become so homogenous in games.
The idea of a much more personal tale is really great to me. In the video review he says: "Although the plot might not necessarily be that interesting, the characters are great." Which is a weird criticism... Aren't characters what a story is all about? Plot is just a device to give the characters something to do... Many of the greatest stories ever have simple or no plot.
