out of food. Can't do any potion. I only have the only that boost my melee dmg for 30 seconds

Then go buy food or hunt down the stuff to make the Swallow Potion. Once you make a potion once, it auto replenishes each time you meditate as long as you have one thing of alcohol in your inventory. Swallow should give you a near full heal each time you use it, and you can get 3 of them with each replenish.

Wow, wtf. I just the game freeze twice in a row after I won a game of gwent. Had to restart the complete computer everytime. And now Steam doesn't even recognize that I have Witcher installed. Every other game is there and the folder is still filled. The hell.

You can't end the process? I've seen many people saying they have to restart the computer, but I can't see that being possible lol.

PC. i5 @ 4.3, GTX 970, 8GB RAM. It's the only significant bug I've had, except for driver crashes which haven't happened since I left White Orchard.

I've heard that there might be an issue with this video card. It just be that it's a popular card, but my friend has this video card and has been having issues with crashes. He looked it up and found this Reddit thread and I guess a lot of others with that card have been having crashes. Maybe something related to the newest driver?

This guy on Reddit apparently has a fix for the inventory freeze: http://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/36ewbt/official_bug_thread/crep7ee

Don't know if it works but maybe it's worth a shot.

So far i fought at least 3 different enemies that used the same strategy. Teleport behind me and attack. It's annoying. I mean, it's easy to dodge. But the camera goes nuts. I can't lock on and end up trying to attack enemies off screen.

So far I've found the lock-on to only get me into trouble unless I'm only fighting a single enemy. The soft lock is way better since it lets you adjust to the threats around you instead of the camera spazzing out to try and follow the enemy that's dashing away from you.

Just took out four wolves and a big daddy wolf. Even this feels like an accomplishment in a game like this. That's why I like the combat - genuinely challenging, but you have the tools and moves to win. Once you master it all, you can make intimidating foes look stupid. Dodging attacks is especially fun.

I've played more than six hours already and I'm still running around the first area. So epic.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but can you stay at inns in the game to rest up? The first inn thing you come across doesn't have an upstairs so I'm guessing there is a no.

I have that card and I've been able to play it on Ultra settings (With Hairworks off and Foliage Distance at High) at usually 60 FPS, and I have gotten 0 crashes in 13 hours of play. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Do you have the latest drivers? The fix I posted is just installing the old drivers.

Dude, i am getting wrecked by those green monsters by the water. I cant parry the attacks and just end up randomly rolling around all frantically. Playing on death march and plan to finish the game on it. I want that platinum. This will take me all summer though. The most basic encounters are destroying me though. So hard to dodge.

Don't roll except when you really need to get away. Just dodge to the side as they're about to attack, then get a few blows in. One on one they're really not bad at all, you just have to be careful. Of course, you want to separate them first, can't really fight three at once. Igni is useful for both damaging and staggering a whole group at once (especially so if there happens to be an explosive barrel nearby).

Fighting more than one enemy at a time can be troublesome. When you're dealing with one they're a joke. Just gotta be mindful that one doesn't come after you while you're another.

I'm not that far yet but if its anything like the last game the combat becomes significantly easier one you unlock more skills.

I restarted it every time, had to. Opposed to the inventory freeze where I can just push the windows button to get to the Task Manager, here I only ever see the frozen image. Even my secondary monitor is total black. First time, everything was as it supposed to be, but when I beat the merchant again, it froze again and I restarted again, Steam didn't recognize the installed Witcher 3 anymore. When reinstalling it actually checks existing files, but that's super annoying, getting through all the files on the HDD takes some time apparently.

After a lot of time with the game I still think the controls are horrendous, at least on PS4. I'm loving pretty much every other aspect but the controls, holy shit they are bad and I feel like I'm fighting with them to enjoy the game sometimes.

The movement just feels sticky - Geralt goes from 0 to 100 real quick when you touch the stick, but turning or changing direction makes him take his sweet time and the camera sometimes has a different idea about where to go. And combat... I'm sure it's been brought up a million times at this point, but when I press an attack button in a video game I expect the character to attack, not jog a few steps, wind up, and then attack.

Still loving the game overall but this stuff is not getting any better as time goes on.

I agree, they are pretty shit. It's the first game in a long time that I have cursed aloud out of frustration.

Edit: playing on pc with DS4

So can someone tell me if there is any differences between the witcher 2 and witcher 3 combat??? Or is it the same???

Some insight on this would be appreciated. i hated the combat in one and two. Thus why I haven't picked up three yet.

I wish I could just try the game for like 30 mins, just to experience the combat.

Guys, the Witcher games are hard. They've always been hard. To the point that playing them on easy still represents a challenge.

I would suggest those of you having trouble with combat and movement drop the difficulty until you start to feel comfortable with the way the game moves.

Lots of you are coming off 100s of hours of various souls games with their very specific movement pattern. This is not your daddies Souls game.

Combat is similar to Witcher 2, but more snappy and less getting caught on a tree somewhere and get backstabbed.
Imo, I thought the combat in Witcher 2 was pretty great.

It's a more polished version of what's in 2. I personally enjoy it, although a handful of people don't. In my opinion, it's heads and shoulders above other open world RPGS like Skyrim or Fable but it's far from the level of a Souls game.

This is the EXACT reason i fucking HATED the witcher two. You just answered the questions I had about this game. Now i know for a fact that i wont be picking this up since those same issues i had with two are still in the game.

so my options are :

take an earlier save a erase all my progress in this story related quest.

or

get good and not get hit.

Okay...

I know which bit you are at. The same happened to me.

Tips for end of that dungeon:

Use quan on the last Wild Hunt dude, it allows you to get hit once without taking damage.

Dodge and get a couple of swipes in as he is being stunned, you'll whittle him down without getting hurt if you keep replenishing quan and taking your time.

Keep L2 pressed when the dogs come and pick your spots.

It'll take a while but you'll get there.

So far I've only fought the Griffen as bosses go. But does anyone else get kind of a monster hunter vibe from at least the boss fights? It very much felt like the have to time what you do perfectly and do the right thing or you miss the opportunity entirely (and have to avoid the monster until another good opportunity presents itself which you have to time perfectly)? And if you mis time it you better not try again cause you'll be caught wide open cause you won't get to dodge in time as it takes time for each move and once you commit you can't interrupt (or interrupt fast enough). Which very much reminds me of Monster Hunter. It's a little clunkier but the boss combat (at least for the griffen) really reminded me of that.

Also, for the small mobs like wolves/dogs/drowners, do they come back once you kill them off? Or are they a finite amount int he game (I think I saw a review complaining they were and I've noticed that if i kill them off in an area they don't seem to come back, but I just finally got out of White Orchard so maybe I'm just not giving it enough time?).

I really hope they aren't caues that means that all resources are finite in the game and that is going to trigger my packrat/hoarder mentality even worse (if I get rid of this I won't be able to replace it if I get rid of too many and then find I need them).

I encountered my first bear last night. Wow. I saw the little HUD icon show its name and health and I was like "but where's the bear? is it behind the enormous brown mound?" Then I got closer and that big mound got up. I still kicked his ass.
