Does dismember do anything outside of looking sweet?

Unless it affects your chance to do a finisher, doubtful. Looking sweet is its own reward though ;)

And I know CDPR got a lot of pushback from the cinematic finishers in 2, but man I would love to have more finishers in this game, especially Sign finishers.

So, random question about the area you go to for the "In Wolf's Clothing" quest,
in the garden, near where Morkvarg's "den" is located, there's a sluice and opening one of those gates reveals a hidden cave with some loot, and quest related stuff, but once I go into the water I cannot find a way back up out of the water. Is there a way or are you just permanently fucked the moment you jumped in there if you had the wrong gate open/closed?
I remember simply climbing up a stone ladder carved into the side of the sluice

Got a sword with 140 armor piercing then I applied 2 runes with 30 armor piercing each and a 3rd with 10% bleeding. Thing is a monster.

Is there a point after "Now or Never" where I can talk to Triss about side quest stuff? They sure tied an annoying amount of side quests to a character that spends 75% of her time forcing cutscenes and missions when you walk near her... I need to ask her about this stupid statuette I found.

Give it to Yen instead, which is sooner than when you would meet Triss again.

Abit hard to see, but there's a ladder connecting the water to the ground near the levers.

Is there a way to toggle the HUD to take some nice screenshots?

Also, just did the Return to Crookback Bog mission and
can't believe the baron hanged himself! I was hoping to have more missions with/for that guy. I released the tree-spirit and so Anna dies and the baron offed himself.

Do Contracts auto-spawn or are there only a fixed number of them in each place?

It's a 5/5 game for me, going by the scale our website uses. That's not to say it's without criticism, but I firmly believe in the impression left by the sum total of parts, and none of the things I can nitpick about or suggest improving impact that in a negative way. This to me is one of the medium's "greats" that shows what can be accomplished with the right visionaries and talents.

Much like Half-Life 2, Metroid Prime, and Resident Evil 4, I see it as one of those titles that effortlessly springs to mind the moment someone asks "what are the best games you've played". It was just a wholly satisfying and enthralling experience from the very top to the very bottom, and as the credits rolled I felt no sense of dissatisfaction or frustration. A "complete" masterpiece.

Wholly agree with you. My fear is that it may get monotonous towards the end, and that the ending may falter, but by the sounds of things, my concerns are likely misplaced. I never completed DAI, Skyrim, Oblivion and several other high profile RPGs, but I get the feeling W3 will hold my attention till the end.

The feeling of finding an awesome relic sword with three rune slots...so good.

Is there any reason to hold onto any equipment, other than your witcher gear and starting outfit? I feel so hesitant to get rid of these relics. They belong in a museum :(

Witcher 2's characters discussion semi spoilers:
I thought Saskia promised Iorveth and any other Aen Seide their own province to live freely away from human contamination, obviously this is near impossible to execute now that the Black Ones infest everywhere, but is there really not even nods to this?

Haven't seen/heard any yet, but I could be misremembering.

stuff about W2 characters and why they don't make sense in W3

I've seen others mention that there's no place for those characters in this game, but that's not really true. The game has you doing all sorts of things in sidequests that don't relate at all to the big picture and war with Nilfgaard. They could easily throw in characters in the same manner that they did with
Letho
in this game.

More specific reasons why I think those characters could've been included:
There's multiple side quests where you interact with Scoia'tael groups hidden out in the forest, just like how Roche is hidden out there. I believe I did 3 quests interacting with them, they could've put Iorveth in if they wanted to. Kinda refutes what Roche said.

For Saskia, they could have you take a witcher contract to kill a dragon in a cave, and end up finding her (similar to Letho). You could chat with her and find out about the defeat at Aedirn, and after the battle she flew south to find her father or come to terms with shit, something like that.
I'm not saying including them is a good or bad thing, but they could easily be written in well by the talented writers at CDPR and have a place in the world of Witcher 3 just like everything else does, imo.

I don't think there are that many. You're bound to find higher level replacements of the same weapons.

Nice! I'll probably have my verdict in a few months X(

Easily one of my favourite games ever, and could very well be my favourite game...

I'm a long way from finished, partly due to restarting on PC having first put many hours into the PS4 version, but I can safely say this will be my favourite game of all time, currently held by HL2. It gives a narrative I care about and a sense of place that is pretty much unrivalled, and all this in an open world setting.. which has always appealed, but never fully worked until this point IMO.

Its great to hear that those who have finished remain so positive, and wish to spend even more time in the world CDPR have created.

Wonderful indeed.

sailing in this game is so slow

And yet probably faster than it is in real life :p

The problem is.... there's just nothing interesting to do while sailing. Riding around on your horse and just exploring is fun because you're seeing all this new territory, finding loot, fighting enemies, etc. But sailing... it's just water. And things can be pretty spaced out. Especially on Skellige. Tooooo much sailing there....

Not played in a few days, so turned it on and FPS is around 20 lower than it was when I last played despite not changing any settings.

Geforce Experience has since released a new driver though, has that caused any issues?

EDIT: Forgot to re-enable SLI, silly me.

I was hesitant to install the new driver so I looked at GeForce.com and, yup, the new driver is giving people issues.

Man, golems suck. One stomp does like 75%. D:

Oh my jesus. I just put two and two together about a random "glitch" I kept getting. Those bombs that release the cloud of silver that blocks enemy abilities. It also blocks your abilities. I would randomly get the "this action cannot be used in combat" while around the cloud and get super buttmad. :O

I've played for hours yesterday and when I checked the playtime it said 11 minutes :/

So I played a little more today... And checked my playtime again and it said 12 minutes........ Please don't tell me I have to wait till the next update and all my previous playtime is gone and won't be counted -_-"

What does holding on to your starting outfit allow later? Pretty sure I sold mine in White Orchard.

Early on, someone said that you need it to craft some of the best armor in the game later on.

HOWEVER, I think you can also get the recipe to make your Kaer Morhen armor, which I think is the same thing?

Has anyone else pulled off the double decapitation move? My Geralt launched into a finishing move to lop some dude's head off and this other enemy came running at the same time and got his head chopped off as well by the same sword strike. It was pretty impressive because you wouldn't expect that finishing move to be able to physically interact with another enemy.

Anyway, still waiting for the XP fix. Such a momentum killer.

Oh rite. I remember you could use it to upgrade the chest piece to Warrior jacket or sumit. Might be confusing it though.

Although I haven't finished it yet I must say I kind of agree with everything you said.
It's a true tour de force.

Jesus Christ, I am doing my best to like this game, but how can the combat suck so fucking much??? And this after W2, smh.

Getting the skill to slow down time when an enemy counterattacks makes it much more manageable, especially in large groups. I actually really enjoy it now (level 14) but it took a while to get around just mashing the attack button.

Errrr, there are quite a few treasure chests etc sunk in the water and sailing is a mode of transport for people who dont just want to fast travel everywhere.
I'm not sure what else you would really want to do with the boats.

I try my best to understand posts like this. I mean, I know people have different tastes, but I just can't fathom a world where this combat "fucking sucks." Maybe I'm easy to please? I like the combat.

What difficulty are you playing on? I'm on Blood and Broken Bones and it's tough but fair. You need to use the dodge button a lot (not roll) and keep spacing between you and your enemies. Slash at them only when you know you've got an opening. Use Quen to keep a shield up in case they get you, and try some of the other signs, too. Personally I use Igni a lot. Gives a nice stun, and burns the hell out of them. Once you get the upgraded version it's like a hose of fire, and once enemies are burning you can usually get one or two big pops in to finish them off.

Turn them off. Ruins the tone when you do find them too.

Example. I was riding my horse and I came across a couple guys. Come to find out one of them fell and broke his leg while trying to light a fire at the top of a large monument. I gave them some herbs to dull the pain and then I was on my way.

My reaction was, "hmm, neat." whereas if I followed some marker without any context at all I'd feel like, "I rode out here for this?"

The random events that trigger organically don't spawn a POI.

Really? I love the combat. I thought I would hate it, but it grew on me and it's still not getting boring. Every encounter almost feels like a puzzle. I'm going with a sign-heavy build with a lot of stamina regen. This is by far the most fun for me.

I mainly use Yrden alt + Quen alt mostly. The Yrden alt trap is just fun as hell. Zaaps enemies and basically nullifies archers :)

Igni is great to get a few enemies on fire, which keeps them occupied for me to focus on another enemy.

Dodging and counter-attacking feels good to me as well. The only thing I don't like about the combat is the unpredictability of the animations. Sometimes Geralt will do a really fast attack, and sometimes he'll do a spinning twirly attack that takes much longer, despite still being a "fast attack."

But overall.... I'm still digging it a lot. But I can understand why people don't like it.... because didn't like it at first and I really didn't like it in The Witcher 2.

So i wanted to share with you guys how much play time i've enjoyed with this game. Mind you i've been playing this game since release, quite a bit. But to my surprise, as i check the stat last night. I only have 18 mins of game time.

So the game bends time, and its all relative. The more fun you have with the game the slower time goes. Very good design. :)

Distance seems to be what determines this. If you do a fast attack from far away he'll obviously spin into it. If you do it from pretty close it seems like he just jabs.

Only complaint I have in combat so far is that for some reason Igni's upgraded version likes to sometimes point me away from enemies when I start it up. I'm not sure why it does that, but it's really jarring and sometimes I get wailed on a few times because of it.

Learning when to dodge vs roll is pretty crucial. It takes a little while to learn to not dodge too early, but rolling usually puts you out of counterattack range unless you roll again...which sometimes works, depending on the angle and speed of the enemy.

I was rolling like a madman early in the game, which was fine, but stamina becomes a much more valuable resource as you progress, so it's not really feasible. Dodging is scarier but more effective (unless your goal is to GTFO of there).

I really like the combat in this game. One reason I like the active shield mode is because you can be a little bolder with dodge, make a mistake and still have enough time to throw up quen.

One fight that stands out where I didn't like the combat was the
Imerith
boss battle. During the last mode, I felt like I was fighting the camera the entire time.

Combat becomes quite satisfying once you become adept, maybe it's build dependent but a fast combat quen and Igni Geralt is a lot if fun

Guys I'm at the store.
Is this game up to snuff on ps4?
I'm debating between this, and dark souls
ask the employee at the counter, post back what he says
