Guys I'm at the store.
Is this game up to snuff on ps4?
I'm debating between this, and dark souls

Now, I don't own a PS4, but you're in the Witcher 3 OT so we're obligated to say buy the Witcher 3.

Do it. Regret nothing. Embrace an instant classic today.

Don't leave empty handed.

Oh, come on. It's a perfectly good question, no need for that attitude. Does it at least run better than w2 on Xbox? I thought it played well on that.

it's supposedly smoother on xb1, ps4 suffers in some places badly even with latest update according to DF, but it's not like it's unplayable. I think most in here would recommend it wholeheartedly, myself included.

but ask the guy at the counter

Woo got the
Feline
armor set. Can't make the legs though (made everything else) cos I need a damn Monster Eye. Level 15 atm.

Hilarious thing happened earlier getting one of the final pieces of the set - a
Basilisk
was guarding a chest on a tiny little island and he started flying around before going at me so I used the Jedi mind control ability on him and he crash landed in to the ocean and died instantly. SUCKAH.

Really? I love the combat. I thought I would hate it, but it grew on me and it's still not getting boring. Every encounter almost feels like a puzzle. I'm going with a sign-heavy build with a lot of stamina regen. This is by far the most fun for me.

I mainly use Yrden alt + Quen alt mostly. The Yrden alt trap is just fun as hell. Zaaps enemies and basically nullifies archers :)

Igni is great to get a few enemies on fire, which keeps them occupied for me to focus on another enemy.

Dodging and counter-attacking feels good to me as well. The only thing I don't like about the combat is the unpredictability of the animations. Sometimes Geralt will do a really fast attack, and sometimes he'll do a spinning twirly attack that takes much longer, despite still being a "fast attack."

But overall.... I'm still digging it a lot. But I can understand why people don't like it.... because didn't like it at first and I really didn't like it in The Witcher 2.

I try my best to understand posts like this. I mean, I know people have different tastes, but I just can't fathom a world where this combat "fucking sucks." Maybe I'm easy to please? I like the combat.

What difficulty are you playing on? I'm on Blood and Broken Bones and it's tough but fair. You need to use the dodge button a lot (not roll) and keep spacing between you and your enemies. Slash at them only when you know you've got an opening. Use Quen to keep a shield up in case they get you, and try some of the other signs, too. Personally I use Igni a lot. Gives a nice stun, and burns the hell out of them. Once you get the upgraded version it's like a hose of fire, and once enemies are burning you can usually get one or two big pops in to finish them off.

Getting the skill to slow down time when an enemy counterattacks makes it much more manageable, especially in large groups. I actually really enjoy it now (level 14) but it took a while to get around just mashing the attack button.

Thanks for the tips, I will keep at it for a little longer. It's just really difficult to deal with the lack of precision after coming off Bloodborne.

Its hard with this XP bug, I restarted and avoiding doing quests and I've ignored some "random events", but I think some of them have expired like the elf in front of Novigrad. I hope nothing else expired, because I know that one encounter isn't significant.

Finished it after 114 hours. Still displeased about the not-so-honest marketing but damn was this game a gem. Easily the best game I've played this gen and insantly gets in my top 5. I only just saw the ending:
I got the rather depressing one
, so I need to let it sink in. It's easily my favorite RPG of all time, whether its more than that I'll see. Very glad I didn't skip it out of my disappointment about the above.

If you're buying a game purely on performance then go for Dark Souls 2.

If you're buying a game cause you want to play it then buy Witcher 3.
Not purely on performance. Just wanted to be sure it runs acceptable. If it runs better than witcher 2 on Xbox then I'm good. I was asking this way, because I have a $30 credit that expires tomorrow, and I had to use it today.
Anyway, I went with witcher.

So the friendly mutton chops beard style is amazing. Got a stylin' Geralt with the loose, but not long hair and the friendly mutton chops.

?

Runs acceptable?

It runs pretty great on PS4. Can't say I've had any issues. Some slight framerate problems which CDPR are looking into patching, but that's it. Oh, and when you scroll through menus it does slow down, not sure if that's across all versions or just PS4, but it is slightly annoying.

Managing large groups of enemies is actually pretty fun now. You can still be EASILY overwhelmed by groups if you're not careful, but group fights are super fun when you have some skills built up. It's awesome to weave and dodge your way between 3-4 enemies, gracefully whittling each of them away.

Mmmm..... Dark Souls\Bloodborne are the best in terms of visceral feeling combat. You definitely have to approach it differently in The Witcher 3 though.

The only real tip I can give is that if you're low on health, hold down the quen shield (alt version) and let enemies beat on you until your stamina is trained. That will heal you for every hit so long as you still have stamina. And if you max it out, stamina will only drain when you get hit as opposed to draining slowly just by having the shield up.

Sometimes I just let my Yrden trap do all the damage to enemies while I stand around with my shield up :)

My Roach is an asshole. Sometimes he blocks conversation scenes, sometimes his pathing gets him stuck when I whistle, and he controls more tank like than Geralt (and I got stuck on stairs for like 3 minutes due to Geralt's tankiness).

Question regarding
Letho
in Witcher 3 :

In Kaer Morhen, while defending against the Wild Hunt, does Letho get his own cutscene (similar to Keira Metz saving Lambert), or does he just act as a fighting NPC during the siege?

Thats great to hear. My only experience with witcher is on consoles, and I enjoyed my past experience. I don't see myself getting annoyed with the menu slow down. Thanks for the input.

I had the same problem. Keep at it and you'll get used to it. They're completely different games with different goals. I'm actually loving the combat now.

Wait people actually hunt for these items? Im a level 15 as well and Ive never run into an instance where I didnt have an item that would breakdown to the part that I need or the vendor doesnt have the item in stock.

To clarify a little bit on the menu thing: it slows down in your inventory, when you go between the tabs of items (weapons, useables, etc.), and yeah it's not really much of an issue.

Some might also say the loading screens are long, however the game only has one loading screen really, unless you die, in which case you'll see another one. The loading screen when the game starts (which again is the only one), is about ~20 seconds; which is less than the initial loading screen for The Last Of Us.

So all in all, it runs pretty great. I have no major complaints at all.

He goes with Geralt and Lambert and says a couple things. Overall no big changes with or with out him.

Does he get to be a part of
the coolest fucking cutscene in the entire game: Gary and Lambert fighting off the Wild Hunt and then Quenning right as Triss's meteor hits
?

I'm pretty much the same but this is the ONLY item I don't have nor am I able to dismantle something in to. :/

And what does
Yenn do in that fight? Throw up a shield that lasts like, 10 seconds. Once again,
Triss > Yenn

Don't want to ruin your moment but simply shooting him with a crossbow will have the same effect ;b

Can't loot him when he dies by landing in an ocean though (at least I couldn't, might've been a glitch).

Yeah, after the meteors stop you see he hid under a body to avoid getting scorched, which is pretty hilarious.

Nekkers are the easiest way to get one. There is 1 or 2 nests just east of Reardon Manor in Velen, just keep killing them until you get one before destroying the nest.

It is so difficult to keep alive the brother-in-law of the counterfeit pass seller in Velen. I'm not exactly a powerhouse at level 8, but the guy drops in seemingly one hit. I'm throwing up Yrden's all around him and trying to stay near him to protect him, but I'm on perhaps my fifth reload now. I didn't even realize how easy he dropped on my first try on which I got to the final wave with the rot ghoul.
Anybody else struggle with this or give up and just report his brother-in-law dead? It's not like I would take him up on buying the counterfeit pass anyway as I've already gotten a legit note from the camp commander for killing off the Scoia'tael bandits that took out his men.

Edit: Ok I think the trick is to not stand near him, try to draw and kill the enemies, and pray that they don't make their way over to hitting him. I believe that's how I got so far the first try.

Try to stand by the woods and aggro the ghouls right when they appear, while they're still far away from the brother dude.

They completely left him alone this last try and I had it down to two ghouls; of course one of them trolls me and rushes straight to him. Gonna try that now, thanks.

Edit: That trick works perfectly, none went near the camp. But AGAIN one got loose right at the end and went for him. CDPR trollin' me hard here.

So a question about Ciri
does she have any special abilities besides blink-dodging? I've only mashed fast-attack so far...

This collect them gwent achievement is pretty hard.
I am missing a few common cards, and now I have to visit every merchant that I might have passed by.

I guess a quick question to alleviate some concerns I have and I figure people who have already completed the game stick to these topics more then the other ones. So I'm asking people who've completed the game on Death march with the XP bug working it's magic upon your quests; were you still able to complete the game and achieve level 35?

Try this.

Find a group of downers.

Use roll and dodge to evade them until you can survive indefinitely. Then start placing strikes when you can.

Roll is for creating space or escaping in a pinch, dodge for evading strikes to create an opening for a counter attack or for positioning.

Roll uses stamina, dodge is free.

You have a plethora of ways to debuff or stun your targets. Burn, freeze, knockdown, daze, control, slow, blind. Make sure you're utilising all options.

Make sure you're checking the bestiary for enemy weaknesses.

Use lock on for single targets, is free aim for groups. Switch to lock on during group combat if you need to quickly face a specific target.

Try to get behind your target when you can, does crit damage.

-

Combat is very fluid when you learn its rhythm. It isn't souls, it's no better or worse imo, as good as in its own way.

It's one of the highlights of the game for me now I understand it, but I understand why people find it awkward. I did until I learnt it.

Lol, so thanks to some bandits I get it this third try fighting near the woods. A couple ran by me on the final wave, but during an earlier wave four bandits strolled in on horse. I thought they were going to interfere and make things a little more difficult but to my surprise they completely left me alone and intercepted the stray ghouls. They took them each to below half life but more importantly kept them away from the pansy.

Edit: I wanted to show my gratitude by letting them live but I could not progress the quest as their presence kept me in battle mode. They were completely minding their own business and didn't even attack when I walked up. I feel kinda bad.

Edit #2: I honored them by pouring (dropping) a Rivian Kriek by each corpse.
