Really? I love the combat. I thought I would hate it, but it grew on me and it's still not getting boring. Every encounter almost feels like a puzzle. I'm going with a sign-heavy build with a lot of stamina regen. This is by far the most fun for me.

I mainly use Yrden alt + Quen alt mostly. The Yrden alt trap is just fun as hell. Zaaps enemies and basically nullifies archers :)

Igni is great to get a few enemies on fire, which keeps them occupied for me to focus on another enemy.

Dodging and counter-attacking feels good to me as well. The only thing I don't like about the combat is the unpredictability of the animations. Sometimes Geralt will do a really fast attack, and sometimes he'll do a spinning twirly attack that takes much longer, despite still being a "fast attack."

But overall.... I'm still digging it a lot. But I can understand why people don't like it.... because didn't like it at first and I really didn't like it in The Witcher 2.

Yeah, I'm digging it too. Its not perfect but I do enjoy it and with some tweaks I think it can be really good. For instance, one of my biggest gripes is the reliance on the quick menu to switch Signs. Using Ds4Windows I'm able to use r2+face buttons to cast them and it makes things feel a lot smoother. Its a simple tweak that they could add to the game. Also on the design end I'd like to see them flesh out the melee with a few more attack types such as a running attack and a "stinger" style forward stab.

In terms of "jank" I really haven't experienced the unresponsiveness or major hitbox issues I've seen others cite. Like I saw someone saying that sometimes his light attack just doesnt respond sometimes when he pushes it and in 90+hrs of play thats not something I've had once.

Holy Shit!

I know it's an early Mission, but if you do the mission where you have to find a Monster near the Bridge to Novigrad.
Kill the damn fuckers! The loot is Incredible! One of them had a weapon which had 2x the Attack mine had ( 60-70 if i recall right ), another one dropped one with 10% Crit Chance.

Does
kissing Triss at the party
has any repercussion? (Triss's side quest related)

I wonder if the game will force me to make a decision about Triss or Yen without giving me enough time with Yen to see if I like her. :(

Well after doing most of the side quests and POI in Velen that weren't too much over my current level (14) I've decided to press on into Novograd.

I was all set to start romancing Triss as she had been my main girl in W2 but now I'm torn. I wish they'd given her an English accent.
"You know nothing, Geralt of Rivia!"

I dunno why but I just think Yen's voice sounds better.
Maybe it's because American accents feel slightly out of place in a Medieval setting?!?
Oh well, anyway. . . To Triss or not to Triss. That is the question.

I just got out of the river after Geralt had mentioned how oily the water was and I noticed my Griffin armour had a kind of bluish tinge to it in places and didn't look the same wet as it looks in the rain. Has anyone else noticed this?
Does the quality of the water actually affect the colour of the wet effect on the armour or is it some kind of visual weirdness going on?

update on the gray quest xp fix:

since clearing my log of quests with gray level requirement (basically the ones you outleveled too much) I have always gotten xp from sidequests again. take that for what you will, coincidence or actual fix

edit: oops nvm, just did a sidequest and didnt get xp LOL. oh well >_>

How do you beat noonwraiths? This is seriously fucking frustrating...yrden does not fucking work. Everytime I spam it, it does nothing, and it disappears and suddenly it's with 100% hp again.

yrden makes them vulnerable

kill the clones it spawns or it'll drain your hp

I had a hard time too. Make sure you enhance armor and weapons and use oil that seemed to work for me and dodge alot.
The spell needs to be used too though.

I do that but, it doesn't do anything. I know I;m supposed to use Yrden but, Yrden does not do anything to them. They can pass right on over it and nothing will happen. I kill the clones, and suddenly it goes berserk and one shots me.

You should see a huge jump in damage while they're in the circle.

Specter oil and moon dust bombs will help out too, if you have those available to you.

Yrden makes them able to be attacked but doesn't do anything to them besides that. So bait a noonwraith into the Yrden circle and then attack it while it's still in the Yrden circle and it should take a significant amount of damage.

You are hitting them while they are in the circle right? Yrden by itself does no damage.

Can anyone please explain to me what is the difference between heavy, medium and light armor?

I didn't feel any difference in my movement even with the heavy armor.

The score that each armor has, is it a general score or just a score compared to its category? I mean, if i have a heavy armor with a score of 60 and a light armor with a score of 80, does it mean that the light armor is stronger and will hold better in combat or they are not comparable and 60 heavy armor is maybe more durable than 80 light?

Please help :)

It really is inconsistent. I tend to quicksave every time I'm about to finish a quest and see if the XP reward pops up

Yrden stops the Noonwraith from going all grayscale and becoming incredibly damage resistant while inside the circle

I think it's related to how fast your stamina bar regenerates.

I can't interact with the weapon smith in Blackbough anymore. Could this have anything to do with the result of a particular quest involving one of the town folk?
I elected to let the hunter (werewolf) kill his sister in law for her part in the death of his wife.

Edit: Save and reload fixed it.

Most of the time, the "Resistance% to slashing/crushing/piercing" numbers are much larger on heavier armor types

OK so the general score of each armor is comparable to each other than, so a 75 light armor is more durable (which means Geralt can take more hits with it) that a 72 heavy?

It means armor ratings are basically meaningless and resistance percentages are what you look at if you want to be tanky.

The stamina regen differences are negligible too - it only matters if you go medium armor with a signs build, where you soon hit +40 stam per second in combat.

OK this sounds more complicated than I thought, so how can i decide what armor best suit me?

The trick to beating wraiths:
Before triggering the fight.
Coat your blade in Spectre Oil.

As soon as the fight starts:
Go into the inventory screen.
Take a Tawny Owl potion to boost stamina recovery.
Take a Thunderbolt potion.
Make sure Moon Dust bombs are equipped.

Now back to the fight:
Use Quen immediately and once the wraith approaches cast Yrden.
Stay near the trap and coax the wraith into it. It won't damage it but it will make it become solid so you can hit it.
When you get a chance throw a Moon Dust grenade at the wraith.
Smash it with fast attacks. Keep triggering Quen and Yrden. If you take damage use Swallow, cast Quen and try to recover some health.

I've demolished wraiths a few levels above me using this method so it definitely works.

It's not hard. Look at general talents. The three armor technique skills are powerful enough that you want to build your kit around it. If you use fast attacks, go light. Signs, medium. Strong attacks, heavy.

Yea but I invested in all of those, i had almost maxed out light and strong attack as well as the fire sign and others, what is the best all around? :p

BTW most of the blacksmith's armors available don't really have all those states but their overall rating is much higher than my current armor, does they mean they are useless even though their rating can be much higher than mine?

Finally did everything in Novigrad/whatever, on to Skellige.

So can you just skip a majority of the main quest line? I went to skellige a bit early, and
did the mask quest with Yennifer, which was L20 or so, and then went back and cleaned up all the triss/dji stuff in Novi which was L11ish.

You shouldn't be able to skip it. There's some information you learn in the Novigrad questline that is necessary for the plot to proceed. edit: proceed to the second act, that it.

I don't believe you can skip anything, but you can do it all out of order. However the level reqs make it pretty tough so you have to cheese the fights. I did Skellige first on my current playthrough just to see if I could do it. It was tough, but doable.

I'm stuck at a part in the Bloody Baron quest line, maybe you guys can help me:

I killed the Botching, now I'm at the part where you need to keep 3 flames lit while wraiths wraipe me from all sides... honestly haven't had this much trouble in a fight since the werewolf. I am playing on B and BB, level 8 at the moment. There are just so many wraiths!! Help.

That fight was a pain in the ass. Made me turn the difficulty down from deathmarch. I recommend spamming Yrden so you can block their attacks.

If it helps, you don't have to use magic to light them. You can just ignite them like every other candle/torch.

Also I just made sure I kept the fires lit while dodging all the attacks. Eventually it ends - you dont need to kill everything.

Damn, got smacked with the infinite loading screen in the King's Gambit quest....any way around that?

I got that bug as well. Had to reload an earlier save. Apparently it's being fixed in the next patch. I'm avoiding doing the quest for now.

Question about keira in the story [Act 2]:
I have returned to Kaer Morhan in the story mode, but I cant find her. Im about to defend it against the Wild Hunt. Will she still appear? Yes or No is enough.
