The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT2| Wanted to find Ciri, but everything Gwent wrong

You've arrived at this conclusion BEFORE finishing it? Cmon doggie.
Um, what's your point exactly? There are problems with the game, lets not stick our heads in the sand. For example, I'm doing a quest right now where I have to escape whoreson juniors place as Ciri and the game has completely bugged out. When not in combat she hops around and goes into random animations when I am not even touching the controller. I've tried reloading from an earlier save and it's still messed up.

So the games not perfect.....which ones are? Game is awesome imo and best in series. Has a place in my top 3. Respect your entitled to a different opinion though.

Never said I expected the game to be perfect. I'm just saying there's some glaring flaws when some would have you believe this is the greatest RPG of all-time. I get that it's an open world game with tons of variables but it's buggy as hell and there's some clear technical issues with the PS4 version. Maybe playing on PC would solve some of my issues but I don't have the rig.

Wow, I honestly think this game delivers on the hype. Jank is common in RPGs, even the great ones, so I don't dock the Witcher for it here. Overall, I would say that Witcher 3 may be the best RPG ever. I'm consistently impressed how much care and detail has gone into each side quest. Almost every quest I have done has been interesting in its own right, with a beginning, a story twist, interesting choice, and impactful ending. I can't think of any RPG that has been written this well. It's even more amazing when you realize it's fully voiced and the care that went into the cinematography for the cutscens (which blows away DA:I's similar system.)

Writing is right up there with Planescape Torment for me, I am completely engrossed in the game.

There's a difference between jank, which is awkward animations, and bugs/technical issues. We'll have to agree to disagree because even though I think this is a good game, it's not even close to being the best RPG I've ever played. The writing and character development is the best thing TW3 has going for it but the actual gameplay mechanics aren't as polished as I'd hoped based on the extreme hype.

- Too much useless loot

The further I get into the game, the happier I am that I picked up all that 'useless' loot. With the crafting and alchemy systems, and the ability to dismantle everything into useful ingredients, there really is no vendor trash in the game.

What the game does desperately need is a better way of organising your inventory, though. Splitting the 'Usable Items' tab into one for bombs/potions/oils/etc and another for all your books and notes would be a good place to start, and the ability to sort by alphabetical order or by weight would be a godsend. Also wouldn't hurt if you could sell, or otherwise get rid of some of your unwanted crafting diagrams.

The comment from Ciri about
the world she was in where people had metal in their heads and traveled in flying vehicles. There has to be a Ciri cameo in Cyberpunk 2077 now.

If this was a Bioware game, that'd be the final confrontation

It isn't. You've still got an entire arc left with free open world exploration.

Wow, that's crazy. I thought for sure that would be the final encounter. I'm happy for more, though.

You and me both :(

The game is decieving in this regard. I just did not want her to give any cure/potion to Radovid because Radovid's an ass.
CDP should have a combat indicator on dialogue trees, meaning if you select this dialogue get ready to fight. I really didn't expect to be KILLING her especially after the cute love scene. It doesn't make sense. If it was an option either let her take the potion or fight to death, I'd have picked former.

Absolutely not. I think one of the most intriguing things about the game is how is subverts expectations and doesn't always allow the player to manipulate circumstances exactly as they want. The side characters feel more like real people with their own motivations that they are willing to defend, and not just minions that do every thing Geralt tells them to. Knowing exactly how someone will react to dialogue choices just undermines the intended experience.

I can see where you're coming from on most points but I have no idea what you mean here. I'm seriously confused by this complaint.

I...don't know how to make what I said clearer. The waypoint marker is not reliable, it does a poor job of getting you exactly from point A-B, especially in tight spaces. I can't tell you how many times it has said my objective was right in front of me when in actuality it was elsewhere in the area. For example, when you take Triss
to kill Menge
I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get out of the witch hunter base because the marker told me the door was downstairs when the way out was actually upstairs through a door in his office. Stuff like this happens all the time, at least on my PS4 version.

Huh, in my 200 hour PC playthrough I don't think waypoint marker gave me a single issue.

Do we have a complete list of side quests that will fail if you proceed to the I
sle
of M
ist
quest?

I think that I'm all set but I'd just like to double-check.

I feel like I need a guide, every where I go enemies and quests are several levels above me. I dont like this level based system the game doesnt really need it, its primarily a skill based game, it's just adding a difficult upon a difficulty, and it just limits me as to where I can go.

How clean can you make the HUD on PS4?

Is there an auto-hide for the lifebar?

I really want to play this game but I'm afraid my plasma won't take kindly to that amount of static shit, especially the red life bar :/

I heard that line last night and was trying to figure out the reference...that makes total sense!

Yeah, I love the idea that
Cyberpunk and The Witcher may take place in the same multiverse. I doubt there will be more then slight references or cameos in Cyberpunk, but it's still cool IMO. I bet we'll see or hear about Ciri briefly, and maybe there'll even by a reference to the Wild Hunt.

It could be cool if there ends up being a sidequest in Cyberpunk where you help Ciri escape from The Wild Hunt. That may be pushing it, though, haha. I'll bet we'll just get somebody mentioning a strange "ashen haired girl".

Hey all, I was hoping someone could tell me how the PS4/Xbone versions of the game are doing now? I've been waiting to pick it up to try and wait for some patches to hit but I have a slow week at work coming up and am thinking of picking it up today. If I do pick it up I assume between the two the PS4 is the version to get?

Thanks!

Involves a certain side quest with a certain character who asks you to meet them for a last wish, that you might fail if you continue with the main quest at a certain point..

So I did the Ugly Baby quest and took me about two hours to get through with everything, following up on conversations and it was very good for characterisation and all but it was quite slow. And I realised when I finished it that I couldn't do The Last Wish anymore and it was a quest that I wanted to do because I decided on going ahead with Yennefer..but now I've failed and I don't wanna play 2 hours of that again. :/

I still have Now or Never left unfinished though, so I can do that I suppose and be with Triss instead but kind of bummed that I realised about the missed quest too late.

How important/good is that quest? Should I even bother playing through 2 hours again for it?

So, i just got back into witcher after 1 1/2 weeks of pre-/during/post E3 catching up / podcasts while playing rogue legacy.

... i got what i deserved, romance wise.

Honestly, coming back to the game at the "final preparations" stage (right after the
battle of Kaer Morhen
) after a 1 1/2 weeks break, with nothing to do but some more story fetch quests is a real downer for immersion and motivation. I just want to get this over with before Arkham Knight Tuesday, really :/

I'll see when / if i ever do a 'make different choices' death march playthrough. Thankfully with far less playing gwent with EVERYONE.

I played 200 hours of it on Panasonic 55" ST50 plasma and have zero burn-in or retention from it. The lifebar autohides as long as your health is full, so eat food or drink potions or take the perk that regenerates health. Or just disable it in the options menu (hardcore way!).

Thanks a bunch ! My VT60 is unfortunately VERY prone to IR, especially to solid colours. It goes away but it takes a loooong time. At the moment I have both Splatoon special bar and Bloodborne blood echoes visible :/

Customizable/auto-hiding hud sounds great.

Yep totally agree. It's not the first time I've done it either. Sometimes it's very obvious as the tone of the conversation is easy to read but sometimes I think it's a little vague.

It's a good quest, especially if you have read the eponym novel and/or like the Geralt/Yennefer pairing.

I think the gameplay is a pretty good improvement on W2, which I really didn't enjoy, but I haven't had a terrible time with bugs, personally. It's crashed to desktop a few times but that's basically it.

Out of curiosity, what are some of your favorite RPGs? I think of one of my favorites being Fallout 2. That game had megaissues on release, and was way more broken than even unpatched Witcher 3. In truth, it only really got fixed with fan patches. 'All time greats' that I've missed that I think could possibly be compared to W3 are like Ultima 7 or the original Wasteland.

I've played a lot of the classics, and am curious which ones you think are clearly better (at the very least I might learn of a great game I need to play).

just made it to Novigrad after 30 or so hours (the timer seems to be broken, it's showing 30 mins lol). holy shit it's big and beautiful. so detailed.

In The King's Gambit, is there any thing to lose by skipping the fistfight in the hall, it is a nightmare on Death March, especially with the bare handed combat having an extra layer of animation and collision detection jank over the regular combat?

The scene with your witcher brothers in Kaer Morhan midways through the game
where you get drunk with them, dress up, and play with Yennefer's sorceress scope thing
was easily one of the funniest things I've experienced in a game. Loved it!

Whoa, I went there in my first 10 hours of play. Interesting the pace everyone is taking the game at.

The Skellige "undiscovered locations" are boring, especially those at sea. Too many sirens/drowners and loot is underwhelming.
They would benefit from more variation, or if not make the journey more interesting or relaxing (like sailing in AC4: Black Flags)

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I think I'm very close to the end of the game now but I have a question regarding a sideplot.
First, the main quest I'm currently on is Final Preparation so if you aren't that far I'd stop reading. The Radovid assassination thing--did I miss something/can I still continue it? Last thing I did was find Thaler which seemed to end it, and Dijkstra didn't help for the battle against the hunt. This is the first moment I've had actual free roam again since the isle of mists.

Continue with the main quest a bit more.

Yeah they are all terrible, do yourself a favor and just ignore them. The Inventory UI and the Skellige POIs are the two most baffling things about this game, I don't understand how anyone thought they were good game design.

All witcher contracts complete, only have Gwent cards left to get. Problem is I can't find anyone new to play and I think I missed the ones you have to buy at the Kingfisher that are apparently missable. Any word on if that will be patched?

Isn't one location a

People have to go to Skellige around level 15 or so. I think you'll be overleveled and OP if you complete everything in Velen. Just go.

I've done about 100 or so, and have 35 question marks left.
Hard to break my completionist habit ...

Even the treasure hunts have interesting stories, the gear isn't the only incentive to play them, reading about the adventures of other Witchers is very cool.

On a different note, I love using Aard to blast through walls and doors.

After you decapitate someone the head still has hit detection so if it's projected against a wall after being cut off it will bounce off of it or roll down a hill if you happen to be on one.

I've put over 40 hours into it and I still stop regularly to take in the view or admire small details, incredible.

Does anyone have any tips for inventory management? Stuff like notes, letters and books, should i just dump them after picking them up, or keep them?

Also picking up junk that can be used for dismantling drives me nuts because i'm not sure if i should sell or dismantle in-case its useful...

What an introduction to Skellige, that was awesome and set the tone perfectly.

I loved it. I can't say I was too surprised, but as soon
as the raiders hit us
I was like "of-fucking-course, what else would happen in this hellhole." I guess no one wanted to sail there for a reason....

Personally I preferred Triss' quest over Yennefer's but they're both worth doing. If you wanted to pair with Yen I'd replay those two hours.

For books and notes, read them and throw them away. The only junk worth dismantling are the pieces with colored backgrounds. The other stuff just turns into common things you likely already have an over abundance of.

How are the console versions doing patch wise? Any game breaking/majorly annoying bugs still exist that I should wait to get patched out? Also I'm guessing the PS4 version has the edge in terms of which version to get?
