*sigh* Yea, I did...

No way I'm going to do a second playthrough with how long this game is. Damn, feels bad man.

Made quite a bit of progress over the weekend. Think I've finished all the main quests on Skellige now. Thought I was slowly getting through my side quests and witcher contracts and it seems to have doubled again now since I arrived in Skellige.

The In Wolf's Clothing side quest was a highlight.
Curing Morkvarg, taking his reward, killing him afterwards and then taking the reward from the sisters as well felt like justice.

This is what I love. I'm level 19 at the moment and I'm overleveled for a couple of quests in Velen and White Orchard but goddamn those nightwraiths still hit hard, and the god damn nekkers can be quite a pain in large groups.

Stil have to use all of my abilities, block and parry to win.

Makes it so much more satisfying to win a battle too. Killing a pack of god damn drowners, dodging all their attacks, burning their asses, killing them off, unscathed, still feels good even after so many hours.

EDIT:

Also soundtrack in Skellige is amazing.

I really am confused by the people that call the combat terrible. It's sort of similar to Dark Souls in that it is very skill based. There is a large gap in what a good player and a bad player can do. I imagine that the people who call it terrible are just bad or are killing everything in one hit on the easiest difficulty.

Agreed. The combat is no where near terrible. I wouldn't say it's Dark Souls/Bloodborne good but it's still fun.

Only thing that annoys me is that arrows can travel through objects so using cover isn't a viable strategy a lot of the time.

It's not terrible, but it's not great either, hit boxes and animation scripts can produce really iffy movements, like when you fight a Wyvern, hit it with Aard and it won't let you hit it even though it looks like the sword is connecting.

There is also a lack of hit feedback, you can sometimes hit someone without actually hitting them, no noise, just a reduction in their HP.

BB's combat is slick as hell by comparison.

Realistically, you should have the option of breaking up with either of them after saying 'I love you", if after that scene you meet another one you like more. Like in real life! :p

Still (slowly) working my way through this game, reckon it'll last me months at this rate!

Currently doing the
Broken Flowers quest line, chuckled at the 50 shades of grey reference, always nice to see a little nod to current (ish) popular culture, also quite liked the transvestite elf, interest theme, especially the point about not assuming that he was gay just because he chose to wear womans clothing.
Didn't think it was polite to ask him why he wore them!

I enjoyed the dialogue with Elihal so much I had to record it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF83r3kcU6g

I absolutely love the voice acting and the facial animations in this game. The total bewilderment on Geralt's face is just priceless. And the way the dialogue ends...oh my god

I see this a lot and it makes me feel like most gamers have OCD. I leave the markers on and ignore them unless they appear in my minimap, in which case, I pick them up on the way or ignore them if I feel like doing that. You guys are insane.

Eh, I just enjoy not having my map cluttered with big question marks. In Skyrim, I hated how the game pointed out closeby locations on the compass. Just felt like it totally took away from the sense of exploration if you could magically tell that you'd be discovering a Dwemer ruin over the next hill, before actually seeing it.

Same principle applies here. I travel, and when I see something interesting with my own eyes, I'll go there. Don't need the game to point it out to me.

Thanks, I can see what the dialogue from asking why

.

I am fairly new to the Witcher series, although I did try to play 2, but didn't get very far.

Is Dandelion bi-sexual?, this Kalkstien they speak of, was he gay?, obviously he was burnt for being an alchemist, but I can't help but think there is some kind of persecution of sexualtiy sub-text going on.....

Gonna ask a common question, if someone doesn't mind. I am at
Kaer Morhan and about to do the ritual on Uma
. Roughly how far am I through the game? I been doing most of the sidequests (aside from contracts and treasure hunts) and I think I'm about 50 hours in. I'm considering just focusing on the main-quests for now as the extra-content is bloating the game right now.

it's weird to me that they decided to give an option to show/hide all markers on the map but decided to leave out an option that would show all main and side quests objectives on the map.

I hate having 20+ quests and having to go through each one, switch to the map, look at where the next objective is in relation to me and go through that whole process again and again just to know if there are any quests in my immediate area that i could finish.

Especially frustrating with quests that take you through the whole map where I'd at least get other quests done on my way to the next objective

If you're just doing main quests after this, I think you still have another ten to fifteen hours to go, if not more.

My first playthrough took me over 100 hours, but that was with most sidequests completed. At least the ones I could find. I've definitely missed a few.

I agree. All quest markers should just be on there, with an option to turn individual ones off.

So would you say I'm halfway through the main quest? Do ye know if the add a significant amount of sidequests in the next part of the game? I have made sure to do all of the main sidequests (ie the ones from important characters) I'm not sure if I should bother with all the lower level throwaway ones that won't even give me XP. I'm level 21 now, roughly what level should I be at the end?

The quest marker issue is infuriating. Borderlands does the exact same thing and it's a massive oversight. What is the point in tracking a quests when you can't possibly confuse it with another as they are not visible. The sidequests should show up as greyed-out markers on the map.

Hey guys, I'm about to start the game soon the PC and have few performance related questions:

Spec:
GTX 980
3570k @ 4.4
16GB RAM

Target: 1080p60 playable at all times (don't mind rare drops to the low 50s)

Should I update my GPU drivers (Nvidia)? I'm currently at 347.88

Don't upgrade the drivers, upgrade the card, a 980 is clearly not enough in such resolutions. Or maybe consider another one in SLI?

oh come on

Dunno man, I don't think 980 sli are even enough. How about quad titans, with those you could at least get 30 maximum. Hairworks disabled

lol

Act 2 and 3 are shorter than Act 1, depending on how much you've done in the latter. From what I can tell, you've done a lot during Act 1, so now that you're in Act 2, if you're only focusing on the story from now on, it should take you ten, fifteen hours to reach the ending. Maybe more, maybe less, I can't predict precisely.

If I recall, some new sidequests will become available, some which affect your ending. Definitely be on your toes for that.

Thanks, that's what I needed to hear. Question is do I power through the story before I get Batman on Friday, or keep going at my normal pace and resume TW3 after I finish Batman........

I'd put Batman on hold. It took me a month to finish my first play through of TW3 and I'm really happy I didn't rush it. I'll probably rush my second play through though.

Appreciate the advice, but Batman is my most anticipated game of the year so I'll be playing that this week either way. I think I will pause The Witcher for a couple of days so I don't rush through anything.

How is the second half of the game, story-wise. I have loved everything so far in the main questline except for the Novigrad/Triss/Dandelion missions. They were pretty dull, any time I felt I was getting close to the end, another 3 fetchquests were thrown at me.Honestly I felt like all I was doing for 4 hours was fast-travelling around Novigrad for 2-3 min conversations.

I've got Batman coming on Tuesday as well but I'm enjoying this too much to rush or leave it on hold.
Me too, I've got a long way to go with this game and I've decided to just leave Batman until I'm done with this despite my pre-order being shipped today. Just having way too much fun with W3.

Damn seems i got the worst possible ending.
After my long journey it feels pretty sad, but yeah it is the nature of a rpg.
Now i have to go back to try another end, i am sooo bitter.

Btw great game, goty contender without doubt.

Witcher 3's undoubtedly my GOTY, but I've put 90 hours into it and I've only just reached Kaer Morhen. It'll be another month before I'm anywhere close to finishing it, but Batman's going to be much shorter. Geralt will still be there when I come back.

Just found out they introduced Wolf School armor as part of the free DLC program. Haven't played in a few weeks since I beat the game but now seems like a good time to jump back in for a day or two.

This new set looks great. Fits in perfectly alongside Lambert and Eskel.

Some lore stuff

So it's known that Sorceresses enhance their looks through magic, but do you guys think this enhancement actual or just an illusion ? Because early on a sorcerer in this game
Kiera Metz
mentions how it's just be an illusion if Geralt were to change to a more formal clothing.

I always understood it as the first option. The fact she can make an illusion to Geralt's clothes doesn't negate it.

After playing all weekend, I'm midway in Act II
from what I've seen (I have the missions to ask several people to come help to Kaer Morhen), and I'm also doing side quests, with most of them still sitting in the level 20-25 range, not bothering with Gwent, though).

By the looks of it, it seems I'm still a good 20 hours or so from finishing the game, so I guess the Bat will have to wait :)

Damn, I was hoping to get the main storyline done before Batman hits, but it looks like I still have ways to go after the
Kaer Morhen battle.
Enjoying it a lot, even though the storyline doesn't seem as focused and tight as in Assassins of Kings.

It is physical, nothing illusiony about it.

Anyone else got any suggestions what to spend crowns on?

Money is quite easy to come by, I have about 15000cr, but not really seen anything worth spending that money on.

Also nicely reminiscent of the first game's gear:

How do you find out your time played again? I noticed the stats in the Player menu but they looked a bit too high.

I go by the GOG Galaxy activity tracker, since the in-game one seems completely broken. Some people say it reports way too high, and for me it actually reset when I was in the mid 40s.

Chernobog only apply to armour pretty sure, the other type of stone works on the weapons. I just can't understand why it's suddenly stopped counting the runes in my inventory lol
AFAIK only runes you buy from armourers/blacksmiths can be used in crafting better runes.

ones looted throughout the world cannot be. Weird I know

Anyone else got the glitch on the last Skellige horse race so you can't start it? Hope it gets fixed!

Yeah, I thought it looked a bit too high.

8 hours in and I still can't get the hang of this game. I think I have to be more patient with my attacks.

I'll give it to about 20 hours before deciding to move on or not.

Fuck. Can't craft any runes at blacksmiths any more for some reason. Keeps saying I have zero in my inventory when I have like 10 of the damage ones to turn into Greater ones >_<

Yep, I have that same problem. If I craft glyphs and runes myself they work just fine, but anything I find out in the world just doesn't register in the Crafting menu. I had eight Lesser Glyphs of Igni that I wanted to turn into Greaters, and I ended up just having to sell them and buy the ingredients to make more.
