on hard difficulty usually your sword breaks before you defeat an enemy with >10 your level..believe me,i tried

some are straight up impossible due to the fact that they can heal themselves

yeah, i had to give up trying to beat the W
erewolf
sidequest because that sucker kept outhealing the beating i gave him.

I'm up to the
Lambert quest where I have to go to Skeliage.
I'm currently in Novigrad. The quest is suggested at level 11 which I currently am. I don't see a way to get to Skeliage right now. I can't fast travel there because I don't have any fast travel posts unlocked in Skeliage. I tried to take a boat and that didn't work as I reached the worlds end. How do I get there?

Yeah, I loot literally everything that glows when you use witcher sense, but I don't sell most of that stuff. Most sacks and crates just have alchemy ingredients and I don't generally sell those until I have 99 of them and see no reason to have that many. The main source of income is weapons, armor and animal hides, mostly looted off of killed humans/animals.

CDPR have been very good with hiding some good stuff among the countless sacks full of alchemy crap, so it's generally pretty rewarding to loot everything. You will get new diagrams or unique weapons often enough to not feel like looting random sacks and crates is stupid.
I think animal hides might be the missing link for me. Sounds like I do the same thing as you but I haven't sold any animal hides or random junk in... probably over 15 hours of gameplay. And I know some of those sell like hotcakes. I also make a point of going out of my way to hunt quite often, so I'll do that.

I always sell random swords and junk that I find.

I agree with the fact that encumbrance isn't much of a problem here, and can even be nice in the right area, but it certainly does gimp your combat abilities. I can't roll and run and stuff in combat when I'm encumbered.

Bizarre, I am 100% certain that last night I was rolling and quickstep dodging without issue while overencumbered. I even got in two fights and both were the same. It was the same as always. Super weird.

while i wished they had done more with it..the bestiary is a great idea...found myself with a contract too high for my level, but was confident to give it a try..went to the bestiary and found that the beast can heal itself...and i was like

Seems like I did some pointless sequence breaking. Wanted to get to that quest board, but the castle is locked. Wandered around the castle walls and found a way to jump onto some of those spikes and into the castle from there (at the point where my cursor is). Even got some quest item in the "manor" of the baron (Book about curses) and could investigate some clothes, but nothing happened. Hope I can actually leave the same way I entered lol

Is this game anywhere as good as New Vegas?
It's better in every way imo and I love New Vegas.
No, that's bit of an exaggeration, New Vegas has more free-
different kind of rpg IMHO..here you don't have as much freedom in actions and combat as the bethesda games, but you have a more consistent world ,better narrative and more interesting quests (although a bit repetitive in nature)

all in all is a really good game, you should pick it up regardless
Yeah, this.

I have a question about being under leveled, I am level 14 and have done main story quests up to the one which takes you to Skellige which is marked as level 16. All of the side quests and contracts I have range from 20-33. I have tried a couple of them, but just get 1 or 2 shot so is very frustrating. I have done a tonne of ? markers in Velen. I feel like I have missed something major, or perhaps I just need to explore Velen more?

I am concerned that if I continue with story quests I will be close to finishing the game before I am high enough level to do the side quests? I understand there is still a lot of story to come and I will back and forth between areas, at least I hope so.
Skellige has a bunch of doable sidequests for level 15ish characters in the south-western portions. Doing main story quests tends to be the quickest way to level, though not the only one. Do those, or go back to Velen/Novigrad if you can't find anything, because a sidequest or two in Novigrad lead you to Skellige to finish them.

I'm level 18 and I feel I can take on everything now, my swords are way OP. I have enhanced oils and bazillion potions. I explored most of Velen, it took ages but I found some fat loot. The game is kind of easy now, even level 20 something monsters. Hopefully there are stuff in the game that really need a max ability character.
Taken the trip to Skellige yet? The minimum strength of the monsters goes up a notch.
Am I wasting food items if I eat more than one at a time?
Yes, at least with 2 or more identical food items

I haven't got to the Skellige yet either. But there is
a captain in some tavern (near the docks I think) that offers to get you there for a 1000 crowns IIRC. Not sure if it works out if you give him the money as I'm staying in Novigrad for the time being. I'm assuming there's another, less expensive way there that opens up during main plot but haven't yet got to it.

That's the Baron's place? Look for a garden. There should be a hole with a ladder leading down. This will get you out.

Getting to Skellige:

You should have a Main Quest for Level 16 in your Quest section called 'Destination: Skellige'. You'll need to active/track this Quest and complete it.
Note: It will cost you 1000 Gold to travel for the first time.

Just reached (Main quest/Novigrad Spoilers)
Ciri's Whoreson mission. That new ability she has is so seriously OP, I'm in love. I keep giggling like a schoolgirl every time she goes on a slashing spree.

Upgraded my Griffin gear, too. Gonna try to get the Cat stuff, though. Masterwork tier looks pretty good and I'm more of a quick move/slash fools type of player. Could do with some faster stamina regen.

Anyone know where I can get my hands on that damn Dimeritium ore? Stuff seems hard to come by, but all the Mastercrafted gear requires it. So far I've only had luck with dismantling rare swords.

Witch hunters carry dimeritium cuffs which can be dismantled into dimeritium ore, I think.

I'll look for it, thanks. Was still well worth the trip, even more POIs on my map now. If I continue playing like this (uncovering POIs > main quest) I probably won't be back for a few hours lol

Thanks for the replies. I did notice that my first main quest in Skeliage is not until level 16 but I have a side quest there that is 11. I will be really overleveled for it if I leave it until I reach 16. Wondering if I could just talk to
that Captain at the docks now, do the level 11 sidequest for Lambert and then leave Skeliage?

is the new DLC out on PC? The new look for yen.

Also, how to you change her look?

If it's a spoiler on how to do so, just say.

I'm still obsessively trying to clear out Velen.
It looks like 2 new pieces of DLC just showed up today, the new look for Yen, and the Missing Miners contract.

dont know if it has glitched, but I think the fake papers quest is bugged. Think I failed it but it still remains in the secondary quests. There doesnt seem to be a waypoint on the map anywhere. Think it glitched when
I went to the field in an unrelated quest, talked to some guy to watch over the workers whilst beasts come, didnt really do it, went back to the field and beasts were attacking people

I dunno..

It's not only about knowing what to sell, but to who. Innkeepers pay pretty penny for furs and skins, and other specialized merchants pay well for the merchandise they themselves sell, although normal weapons and crossbows seem to get a horrible price everywhere. Stay away from general shopkeepers

Going to Skellige at level 11 and opening up fast travel there is very doable, but might wanna save before actually going.
After you go through the short encounter and arrive in Skellige, the captain's body that's hidden under a wreckage will have the 1000 crowns on him. So the crowns are purely a wealth check

I hate novigrad and that big city life. Most of the storylines here aren't interesting to me since it's mostly grounded in "reality". Starting to regret my decision to find Tris instead of moving on to the islands.

Just finished the same quest. Yeah it looks pretty nice.

I sure hope the "Nice Boat" line was a School Days reference.

for me it was the opposite..after so much countryside and huts and mud 8especially coming from skyrim..where huts and ruined stone buildings are the norm),seeing a bit of civilization was refreshing

For anyone wondering how to activate the new look for Yennefer here you go...

If you have downloaded the DLC for the alternate look a new "Downloadable Content" listing is now in the Main Menu of the game. In that you just select On or Off for the new look.

Those two quests are directly related, the papers NPC tells you this... Your next step is probably to talk to the papers guy to have him tell you that you failed.

I'm not sure I understand the story.

So I just arrived at the Vizimir, where the castle is, and of what I understand:
Radovic have taken over the North, and refuse to listen to people's cries. That's why the army Geralt is with now, is trying to invade and take back the North. While Geralt and Yennefer want to find Cirilla before the Wild Hunt does.

Have I understood the story correctly?

I also answered some questions while they cut my beard, and I had no idea about any of it. Were there specific answers I should have chosen or does it not matter that much?

I guess it breaks things up a bit, but the quests are so blah.
Follow the thief for a while, talk to like six women on opposite ends of the map to not find dandelion. Whoreson. Fencing lessons. Diving for parcel post on the water. All feel mundane.

Meh. It's overstayed it's welcome. Coolest quest was the Dream lady one.

I bought the +100 saddlebags, 160 carry limit feels endless. Selling armor and weapons net you a lot of gold, it pays itself back quick.

Yeah. I'm level 18 too. There are a couple of dragons in Velen I haven't slayed yet but I'm killing shit pretty easy now at pretty higher levels then me.. I'm not even using all my skill points.

Kind of. You can imagine the world of The Witcher (the Continent) separated into maybe thirds. Bottom two thirds are the Empire of Nilfgaard. Top third is the Northern Kingdoms, that then divided into four main kingdoms. King Radovid rules a kingdom known as Redania. Nilfgaard has tried to invade twice in the past, and the end of the last game / premise of Wild Hunt is that they've started a third invasion and successfully, eating into half of Northern Kingdoms. By the end of the last game at least two of the four kings ruling the Northern Kingdoms were dead (plotted by Nilfgaard to make their invasion easier), with the third either dead by your decisions, or dead at the start of Wild Hunt after starting a war with Radovid. Ultimately the backdrop of Wild Hunt is that Radovid is the last remaining king in the Northern realms and more or less has a stranglehold on everything, while is also at war with the Nilfgaard Empire, who've successfully pushed up through half the Northern Kingdoms in their conquest to take all.

no,
vizima was conquered by nilfgaard, the southern empire. and they are planning to conquer the North, too.
Radovic united the northern kingdoms by conquest, to have better chances against nilfgaard

Already gave that a try. They seem to dismantle into Glowing Ore, which is only a component in crafting Dimeritium ingots. Which still leaves me stuck finding the ores some other way. Like I said, the best luck I've had is some of the more rare swords can be dismantled into dimeritium ingots x2.

Might need to just go weapon hunting.

A cutscene in Skellige had a crab flying around the screen. Immediately after I get a CTD. I'm getting tired of this game's bugs. I've had nearly a dozen crashes now in addition to broken quests.

Not really. The Nilfgardian Empire is a giant and expansionist power from the south that has already conducted 2 wars against the northern kingdoms. They don't care much about people's cries. Northern Kingdoms were smaller, weaker and in chaos after events of Witcher 2. The two (three really but they're pretty much ignoring Lyria) southern ones, Temeria and Aedirn, were smashed to bits in the war. The two more in the North - Redania and Kaedwen remained but the former suddenly betrayed and attacked the latter. Thus becoming much more powerful opponent for the Nilfgaard.

The questions were simulating your Witcher 2 save and the choices one could make there.

Edit: beaten.

Is this game anywhere as good as New Vegas?

I've only played Fallout 3 and Skyrim (I understand that New Vegas is widely considered better than both) - but I can tell you that The Witcher 3 is next level shit. It achieves things which are greater than both of those games put together.

It's a true, timeless classic.

People might hate me for saying this, but it's usurping Ocarina of Time for me as one of the most pure and fun fantasy and adventure experiences you can have. On top of that it's in possibly the most well-realised and large open world to date.

lol believe you mean vizima, vizimir is the old guy you were with. But from what I understand is it's more like picking between to evils. Rado is kind of taking advantage of the chaos in the north. (witcher 2 plot spoilers incoming:
with kings being assassinated in the north, and things going bad, countries are asking for his assistance, where he then basically comes in and takes over the place. Nilfgard is sorta like the roman empire, they enjoy taking over land, and basically trying to take over as much land as they can, stomping through counties in their path, and put them under their rule.
So you basically have these two forces pushing towards each other, which will eventually come to novigrad, which has been long known as a free city, and doesn't take sides.

***edit lol beaten like a witch in novigrad

Radovic united the northern kingdoms by conquest, to have better chances against nilfgaard
and also because he is powerhungry. He didn't particilary help during the many conflicts in the north.

Food and drink are on different timers so if you eat or drink something twice it will just reset the timer. Potions are also on a different timer. Effectiveness is really based on time.

Just finished it. Strong 9/10. Would of been 10/10 had it not been for the bugs and clunkyness of the controls, etc. I had the best ending I could of possibly wanted.

Now I'm sad I have to wait for DLCs/expansions and then for Witcher 4. :(
