The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT3| Metz Some Ploughing Good Ladies In the Forest

What do you mean by "initiating fast travel"? Usually you just have to visit a certain area to unlock the ability to fast travel to that area. This will be indicated by a little green sign post when you go to your map.

You know those posts that say press A for Fast Travel?

Also, Dude is there a better to set up a way point, and actually be able to follow it to its destination rather then marking it and opening the Map every few seconds to make sure you are headed in the right direction?

Right, those posts are usually hidden/locked until you visit that specific location. For it to become visible/unlocked simply find the post in that area and it will show up on your map as a possible fast travel location.

I'm afraid to craft crossbow bolts for fear of running out of silver. This one recipe requires three pieces! Idk... seems steep for bolts that are pretty weak compared to, say... a bomb that replenishes with a single alcohol.

I have a stash of silver, but it's kinda rare to find even with dismantling stuff I pick up, and I want to craft silver swords... Idk... can you exhaust silver supply (practically speaking, I don't want to buy the stuff -- dismantling is expensive enough already) in the game?

The crossbow is essentially useless. Crafting bolts for it is a waste of resources. You can't exhaust the supply of silver in the entire game, but you definitely shouldn't waste it on bolts. The only time you'll ever need to use the crossbow is underwater, and while underwater the crossbow does 10x damage regardless of what bolts are loaded.

What's the best bolt for underwater? I'll keep some of those around I guess.

I really wish they enabled his ability to have analog movement speed all the time. It's honestly the last thing left that really bothers me. I can look past everything else. Even his goofy animations I've learned to ignore...

is the best. Biggest emotional payoff, makes the most sense, from a logical perspective.
That ending is definitely the most involved from a character/storytelling perspective. It's also the most at odds with the books though, which is why I think most people object to it quite strongly. It's definitely worth playing through though, because it's the ending that CDPR put the most effort into.

Yeah it is very bitter imo. Extremely well done, but damn I was not happy.

So I
Finally finished all my quests and I met Ciri at my house in Blood and Wine. Post credits and all that. Am I done - done?

Upgraded my video card from a hd7870 to an RX580 yesterday, managed to hold off buying this for about 6 hours. Finished several times on PS4..but goddamn playing this with Ultra texture/foliage/foliage distance/shadows @ 60fps is something else.

Pretty much! There may be some sidequests worth experiencing if you haven't already, such as Equine Phantoms which can found in a small hut north-east of Dun Tynne Crossroads.

Looking for something to play at the moment, and think I might continue the second playthrough I started a year or so ago. Got up to the Kiera stuff and got distracted

Game of the forever etc etc

Agree. I got the
Witcher Ciri
ending (before I realised there were multiple endings) and was pretty damn content with how that played out. It wasn't till later I read about how to get the 'optimal' ending and can't help but feel I would have been disappointed if that happened. The
bad
ending at least would have interesting, if a little sucky. At least I could have gone out and
avenged her

Sweet! Finally done. Great game! Was a little "long" doing it all in one run. I think I will uninstall it now and move onto something else!

Started playing this game again with a upgraded card and it looks so much better.

Yeah I just started my first proper second playthrough and two years of GPU improvements + mods + ultrawide are making it look like a new game.

Just picked this game up on xb1 because it is so highly renowned and I have been avoiding the series for a stupid reason. I don't like the way the main character looks.

Anyway, I'm totally oblivious to everything about the game and playing on what I believe to be hard. Any tips for a scrub such as myself?

You picked the right difficulty if its its blood and broken bones. Anything lower and the games way too easy outside of the first few hours where you're still getting used to things.

- It may be worth watching a story recap of at least the 2nd game on Youtube. Three does an ok job getting you up to speed, but there's a lot of stuff happen, particularly in the second game that build straight into it

- Good piece of advice you see a lot is to turn minimap icons off. That way it doesn't become a go to the nearest waypoint to do the thing type game, and you can explore a little more.

- Something alot of people miss till later is meditating replenishes your potion stock as long as you have strong alcohol in your inv (alcoholest, Dwarven spirit etc). Craft a swallow potion as soon as you can and you'll be good for healing between encounters

- Turn off fisheye cam for witcher vision. Seriously

- Side quests, are totally worth doing for their stories but don't always offer alot of xp. Main xp gains are done through the mainline story quests

- When upgrading your character skills, make sure to slot them in the tree on the right, in a section with a matching mutagen color. I don't think this was explained particularly well and its pretty easy to miss. It can lead to "Why isn't that skill upgrade working?" type moments

- Quen is an OP spell for big slow monsters. Keep it up and dodge around and smack them up. If they hit you recast and continue

- If your having trouble with particular monsters remember to check the bestiary that will show what signs, bombs etc they are weak against.

- Choose red or black. Not both.
You'll see what I mean

- Plenty more I'm sure, but most of all, enjoy. Even with some slightly wonky character control and combat that could be better, it really is an amazing game that will stay with me for a long, long time

I really must stress his point about Point of Interest. The Question marks on the map severely impact how you approach the game. For the worse.

It is similar to the 'leave the hinterlands' advice if you have ever played Dragon Age: Inquisition.

I was at one point wandering around a bit in central Velen at night when I stumbled upon a sort of structure in the forest, a bit Stonehenge-like. Huge pillars of stone, not connected though, with some writing on them. I tried to find them again at some point, but without luck. I also never had a (side)quest bring me to this location. Does anyone know/recognize what I'm describing, and if you do, is there anything connected to the place, or is it basically something like the Devil's Pit (also supposed to be a story location but content got cut kinda thing).

I think I know this location. It could be Wolven Glade, it's a part of 'Family Matters' questline IF you choose to kill the Botchling.

I think Wolven Glade could be it, but in my memory the stone pillars were higher. I'll check out the location and see if it is the same I was thinking off, thanks for coming up with it! It was bugging me a bit I once found it but couldn't find it again :)

Looked up some pictures, its definitely Wolven Glade. Mystery solved :)

Getting through my second playthrough at a nice rate. Up to Novigrad and starting to get neck deep in the goings on there. This was after I had somehow overridden the save file on that playthrough, and basically had to start from scratch. I was just handling the Kiera stuff, which only took 4-5 hours to get back to where I was.

One thing I'll mention, and I posted something similar in the Horizon Zero Dawn thread, is how good the camera direction is during conversations. People walk around and pace and do things while they chat, instead of the long accepted, stand 2 feet away from some one and have a nice long chat, with a couple of hand gestures thrown in. I commented about it in HZD because I felt that game had taken alot from the design of the Witcher 3, and the devs there had clearly been fans of the game, so it was disappointing when nearly all conversations were that old stilted style. Someone mentioned there, that game would have been better with out the dialogue options and I can't help but agree. Maybe they should have gone with the slightly more expensive but always infinitely better quality, ND style mo-cap scenes

That said, it excelled in other areas so I'm not hating, just making a comparison. It's especially clear now as well, after recently beating HZD and now getting back to the W3

Aside from armors and swords some trophies can add up to 10% for dismemberment. In Blood and Wine you can even get a skill so that every kill either ends up in dismemberment or execution.

Damn another reason to get the season pass.

I love when Geralt chops enemies in half or executes.

Why do I get so many crossbows and bolts that can't be sold? I have a ton of them that require lvl 10-14 and jm level 5 and can't use any so they all just end up in my stash.

The crossbows a relatively unimportant addition to the game. There's only a few specific instances where its useful (fighting underwater it's all you have, and fighting flying stuff its useful to get them out of the air) and the base one you get should suffice for pretty much the whole game.

And sure, use the other ones when you can, but they won't make a huge difference

They come in handy when you go for the 'killing 50 enemies with crossbow headshots' trophy like a madman.
That would be me.

So I ended up double dipping on W3 PC.

How the heck do I get the PS4 buttons to show up? I read that it was baked into W3. I can't get it to work. I boot up W3 with my DS4 plugged in and it thinks it's an Xbox controller. I tried turning of DS4Windows and rebooting the game and it's still the same. I tried booting through Big Picture, tried the PS4 configuration setting thing in the Big Picture Controllers setting but it's still the same.

Edit: Seems like a conflict with Steam. Booting up the exe directly will make the PS buttons show up, but I won't get achievements that way. I tried turning off all Big Picture configs but no dice. :/

I use this. Read in a Steam discussion that prior to v1.21 they introduced native DS4 prompts, then it was accidentally removed in v1.21, and then according to the v1.30 patch notes was officially re-added. Whatever the case, it's trivial to install mods for TW3 since its just dropping a single folder in the mods directory (most of the time) so for me it's not a huge deal.

In the game files it's named
Ciri Welcome
. Hasn't seen a release in the regular OSTs. Here's a video of it.

Didn't want to make an LTTP thread since the gaming side has too much of LTTP witcher already.

I just got this game a week ago before the steam sales (fuck me). I bought it on the PS4.

I slapping myself for not buying this earlier but also praising myself at the same time. I heard alchemy and crafting items as well as books had weight when the game got released. I am a MASSIVE hoarder. The first thing I did when I got to Novigrad was stop everything and literally scour every inch of the city for loots. The hardest part was waiting for the patrolling guards and witch hunters to go away so I could loot that single empty bottle. I also heard about the numerous amount of bugs this game has as well as the frustrating quests that fails other quests like during the party where you wear masks potentially fails the gwent quest. I'm glad I got wikis for that.

I just got to Skellige a few hours ago before I slept. Holy shit is the atmosphere beautiful! The music is the first thing the stroke me. The game becomes sombre and I love it how even the way people talk changes as well as the general kind of enemies you meet.

I got a few complaints still though. I hate how if you overleveled, the quests exp become abysmal like it give me 1-3 xp. This is so stupid especially since some of the quests only appear after a high level quest is finished. Anything other than Witcher gear is useless. I wanted them to make the unique items much better than anything individually but inferior to Witcher gear as a set. It also doesn't help that the set needs to be mastercrafted to have the set effect.

Playing through Gwent, the only complaint I have is that while exclusively getting by cards through winning and not through buying from merchants, you'll be playing most of gwent using Northern Realms deck. I probably beat everybody in Velen and Novigrad yet I still can't use the other decks because I still don't have 22 units in them.

Finally, I wish there was a color scheme on the map itself, like the lands, that changes depending on the level of enemies that roam them. Too many times I venture on quests like the one where you fix 3 wooden god statues for some woman, a level 10 quest at that, only to find a level 20+ griffin, necrophages and wraiths on the way to that quest. It's not even at the deeper parts of the forest but on the road itself.

I'm playing on normal difficulty and the fights are significantly easier since I got Whirl. Bombs and whirl are OP! I think I fought a Fiend and the smaller version of that and both times I used the devilpuff bomb and just whirled them to death without them attacking in return. The bomb poisons them and locks them in a strange flinching animation and combine that with whirl and they die before I could count to 5.

Anyway, a very amazing game and I can't wait to find out more about the game through my adventures. The part where I saved this woman in a bar on white orchard blaming me for killing people after I saved her still is still in my head. Ruined Priscilla's song. Such far reaching consequences.

This is one of those things that I would not worry about if I were you. Don't skip on the side quests as well. Some of the side quests are better than any main story quest you follow. Almost every quest is worth your time and investment.

It's true that most if not all of the armor is terrible in comparison to the witcher gear. I'd highly suggest reading the books you find during these endeavours because there's usually a nice little story attached to them.

1) There will be a time when she will come to you defeated, resigned. Find a way to make her laugh.

2) There will come a time when one will betray her. Let her vent her rage.

3) There will come a time when she will grieve for a friend. Grieve with her.

4) There will come a time when fear will engulf her. Instill courage in her, but do not act in her stead.

5) And never, ever let her feel as if you've sold her out.

So it seems that CDPR considers the
"Ciri becomes a Witcher ending"
as the best ending.

Pretty sure it's the first time hearing of this, most I knew of the HoS/base game overlap were a few minor references by characters. I'd probably want to cut out the middle of the post title to just '[...] Geralt how to get the best ending' and the quotes in the last line for spoiler reasons but it's curious that he'd offer decent advice for once.

The Blood and Wine Gwent tournament is such a disappointment. Winning the whole thing literally comes down to luck of the draw. Skellige is a so-so deck, just far too reliant on the draw.

Actually I think it is
Empress one
. You cannot use the last tip if you don't
take her to Vizima

I wish i knew these damn tips before completing the main story.

I'm still actually pretty annoyed how minuscule the end game related choices seemed with no hint or direction the player should go to get the "good" endings.

I thought i was on the right track as
I never sold her out and took her along to grieve and complete her unresolved stuff

but because i didn't let her
vent her rage (by destroying someone's property) and i chose to drink with her because she's a fucking adult (instead of laughing at snowball fight)
i got the worst ending.

i feel like this should be a tip to newcomers because of the lack of warning that these decisions do to impact the ending.
