So has anybody figured out of there's a way to have all the dividers in the crafting and alchemy menus closed by default?

One of the biggest flaws in this game is how much exp it dishes out.

You should get about half the exp you normally get and/or no exp for killing enemies or using quen in conversations. Whatever it takes to make feasible to do even a quarter of the game side-quests/contracts without being grossly overleveled.

I'm only doing quests and side-quests concerning main characters and I'm still ending up a little too far ahead. I grab a bunch of contracts only to ignore them.

EDIT: Something else that bugs me is that it encourages you to put character traits into overpowering levels rather than spread out for variety. This is because you can only equip a few and the game is surprisingly restrictive on what traits you can buy for one that already limit how many can take effect at a time.

Progression systems hurt more than they help, unsurprisingly.

The last horse race in Skellige Isles is pure crap as the final checkpoint is not that obvious to me as I kept going the wrong direction...

Luckily you can repeat it after failing to win the race. Still I hate racing game in an open world game that is not designed for racing.

Hard to say as I felt grossly underlevel when playing at Blood and Broken Bones difficulty as Geralt can't survive the usual monsters/bandit around Velen until I reached around level 10?

After that, the game do suffer the usual "inverted" difficulty progression where it becomes way easier unless you try to tackle monsters that are at least 10 levels above you.

I guess I'll just put down my general opinion now that I'm done with White Orchard. I'm only now arriving in Velen.

As an open-world game Witcher 3 is on some next-level shit. It almost feels like the first time I played Ocarina of Time in 1998. Just running around or riding Roach by itself feels engrossing because of how broad yet enticing the environments feel in a new way. In other games of recent years that profess to take place in expansive environments, I always had a problem with how compressed and gated they felt. There was always impossible geometry everywhere to lock you in. Those games largely feel like big video game levels. White Orchard felt a lot more natural since you could actually access near 100% of its terrain. The village felt like a natural part of the landscape too.

The graphics are also pretty stunning of course. I guess this is what happens when a game targets 30fps even on mid-range PC graphics cards.

Starting on Blood and Broken Bones difficulty, the combat is actually one of the best western attempts at ARPG combat I've seen. There are definitely some improvements it could make, but I sense there's an actual strategy to learn other than "press X until dead." Figuring out the timing of dodges feels critical and it feels like there are correct tools for each situation. My biggest issue is having multiple animations of varying length for slashes and dodges adds uncertainty when fighting. You never really know how far a dodge will space you from an enemy.

Gwent is awesome. I spent the past three hours just building my deck and doing the sidequests.

Has the developer said anything about potentially releasing a Gwent standalone game for mobiles? I would play the shot out of that!

Is Hearthstone anything like it?

At about 90 hours in and level 20, just did the quest [quest name spoiler]
Carnal Sins
. That was like a summary of the plots of many full games, twists included. I love how there are lengthy and detailed side quests waiting around every corner! I'm probably only half-way done the game at this point given other people's comments.

Death March = Super Hard.

Aka super hard until you reach ~level 15-20 when the game becomes incredibly easy with a few exceptions.

I would argue it's only super hard for the first 5-10 levels. Once you get some decent gear and potions it becomes remarkably easier. The second you put on your first set of Witcher gear the difficulty takes a massive tumble. And if you're doing every side quest and contract alongside the main missions, fuhgeddaboutit.

The hardest fights in the game so far for me have been the griffin you fight in WO, the wraiths during the Baron quest, and the drowners/water hag combo during the Forefather's Eve quest. Everything else has been pretty smooth sailing.

Also, Alchemy builds are amazingly overpowered. Health boosts with a decoction active, extra bombs per slot, every potion heals Geralt, weapon oils don't run out and provide 25% defense against that specific type of monster... and I'm not even halfway through the tree just yet.

I hope they do some work on the balancing for NG+. If they just up the levels and leave everything as is it's going to be piss easy even on Death March.

Just finished the game for the first time....

- Baron
hanged himself
- Vesemir
died (not sure if this is avoidable)
- Keira
was impaled by Redanians
- Ciri
went through the portal, probably died
- Geralt
had a full on breakdown in the epilogue, slaughtered all the peasants and the Crone before sitting in the house waiting to die

Overall I'm feeling pretty bummed out, it's actually legitimately got me kinda down.

Being dropped into
Kaer Morehn
after the credits and then just
walking around its empty halls alone
with that wistful music playing really got to me also.

I know that New Game plus is coming but I just can't help thinking it won't feel right. My own version of Geralt has a lot of baggage and experiences. It would feel weird to restart the game with all his gear and talents and items and then have a different set of experiences. Something just feels odd about using him again - the story is very much a long, start-to-finish arc, for better or worse.

Finally beat the game! Oh man. What a fantastic ride.

I got the pretty much all positive ending with Ciri
becoming a witcher
.

I couldn't disagree more. It felt too slow to level up if you ask me.

You actually did all the choices to kill everyone , lol ..i'm impressed . I'd recommand to wait for NG+ dlc and replay the game again , change your choices while doing another run of the game.

Doubt it, as she gets dealt with in one of the endings.

There's no way to answer this without spoiling things for you, lol.

But no.

Look up the bad ending on Youtube. It's pretty cool how they make you fight the last Crone. Ciri is dead and Geralt wants Ciris medallion back from the Crone. After that Geralt dies too (implied death), over-run by monsters.

Just watched that ending. Holy shit. So glad I didn't get that.

Did you ignore the dozens upon dozens of points of interests and various side quests and contracts? Like I said, I'm slightly overleveled even while focusing on the main quest and a few side quests that branch off it.

Did the jarl mission yesterday where you have to lift his curse and put the baby in the oven. Now at no point is it explained what baby I did put in the oven. Or does no one bat an eyelid at the fact I had to kill two innocent guards. As long as the Karl is ok then it's fine.

Video game logic I guess.

They only have a couple of cards with that ability, and they're one shot only (so once they've done it in one round, they can't do it in any following round). Try to get them to pull one (or more) of those cards in the first round, and then throw the round. In the following rounds you'll have a big advantage. Weather cards can help too, especially in conjunction with Scorch, but I'd generally rely more on the alphabet dragon card (Vilantentrenthtentetierth lol). Once you become familiar with those specific Monster cards you can start to plan for them.

Most rookies (myself included, at the time) conceive the monsters deck to be OP, while in fact it's weaker than both NR and Nilf. You probably don't have spies yet, but keep frost bite in your deck (if you're using the NR deck, which you probably are if you're starting it out since it's all you have, the other weather cards are not worth having). Frost bite is the biggest fear of a monsters deck. Use it as late as possible to trick your opponent into passing. The dragon is amazing but it's a random get so you may not have it yet.

I'm pretty far in but haven't paid much attention to Gwent so difficult to say. Some people I walk easy and others stomp me.

One blacksmith on skellige had the geralt card and siri card I felt a bit cheated he'd drawn both lol.

EatChildren

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Monster decks are able to rack up a lot of damage very quickly but are largely restricted to melee. Build a deck buffed with biting frost weather cards, some clear weather of your own, and spies, while keeping your army mostly ranged and siege. Bait the opponent into playing as many of their hand into their melee pile as possible while using your spies to giving them the false sense of superiority, further buffing your hand with extra cars. Wait until they pass, biting frost their melee units, easy win. Next round they'll be so burnt out on cards and you buffed from your extra cards via spies that you should win.

EDIT: This tactic is particularly effective with the Termerian Siegemaster deck. As you can try and strategies around winning the first round via strong ranged units + spies to buff hand + baiting their cards for melee + biting frost. Then round two hitting hard with siege units then doubling your points with the siegemaster power.

Wow I didn't know that the
epilogue
wasn't part of every ending. My favorite part of the entire climax for sure, really stuck with me.
The part where he picks a fight and slaughters a bunch of level 2 peasants was the saddest to me, like he just can't help but bring death and misfortune everywhere he goes. The showdown with the crone in the sunset-lit bog
was just such a beautiful ending to this truly epic (I don't use that word lightly) game.

Don't spoil me on what happens, but is the ending with
Ciri being a witcher epilogue
that much different from the one with
Ciri being empress
? I mean in the
Empress one, we see White Orchard covered in snow, and Geralt do some "non-empress" stuff with Ciri... is it the same?

Weather cards are a must when playing against monster decks.

They died while battling , in skellige, that means that they died with honor , so they don't care. NOt video game logic , skellige logic ( yes everyone at skellige are TRUE MORONS )

3 differents epilogues for 3 different endings.

So I guess there are 3 "base" endings with small variations in detail? That's pretty awesome. I've already started a new game after finishing last night. I can't bear to play as my "bad" Geralt anymore, too depressing.

NO the epilogue is different . Everything play mostly the same and
during ciri scene at the end with the flashbacks
, the game shift on the corresponding epilogue. The quest is named the same but play differently. VERY differently

I think I have a problem.

I can't bring myself to spend the points I have (10 at the moment) on upgrading my abilities as I don't want to choose the wrong ones, lol. I'm only level 9 and I've spent about 4 points so far.

My level 35 guy has around 14 unspent points, so just go for it. With only 12 slots and the high tier requirements, there are only so many skills that are useful at once unless you plan on swapping a bunch out. PLUS respec potions are easy to get, and cheap.

Just do it. You can respec later in case you change your mind. If you're unsure, get Sun & Stars (yellow), Axii (blue) and fast attacks (red), and then focus entirely on one tree after you have those base ones (until you can get the yellow skills for gear). If you still can't decide, going 100% fast attack in red tree will make you incredibly powerful, but I hear an all-alchemist and a mind-control build can also make you very strong.

Ranking the areas: Skellige >>>>>>>>>>> Velen > White Orchard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Novigrad.

If we're ranking the areas, personally: Skellige = Velen>Kaer Morhen>Novigrad>White Orchard. I like Velen's lively, sun-drenched and war-torn landscape almost as much as Skellige's vast, beautiful untouched isles and more peaceful music. The An Skellig theme is sublime. That Oxenfurt theme tho.

Seemed strictly visual. I couldn't interact with it or anything, but neat to see. Stupid that GOG doesn't have the option for screenshots yet...I don't want to run Fraps or something just for it.

MSI Afterburner has a screenshot feature I use bound to F12 like Steam. It also has video capture, and seeing I launch it for custom GPU fan curves it's useful having all the functionality in one program. It lacks sound feedback like Steam's camera shutter effect but it's reliable.

You see that's my problem, so many ways to build a character, I can't make my mind up. It's a problem I have in all RPG's I play.

Finished it last night.

Amazing ride. This was an experience unlike no other. Going to restart again, to see how things play out differently. Played it on my PS4, but I might order a 960 or 970 to play it maxed out on my PC next time.

The Statuette sidequest is broken for me.
Is this a known 1.07 issue?
Yep.

Not that it matters in its current, broken state, but if anybody was still looking to decompress those statuettes after she leaves Novigrad, you're given another opportunity to do so during Final Preparations, while she's in her room in Dandelion's carabet.

I got that ending when I finished the game. Still hurts...

Got it last night, first time beating the game. Definitely very painful. Made worse by the fact that I didn't see it coming. I thought I was being the good guy the whole time except, perhaps, for a couple mistakes here and there. Still though, I really liked the ending objectively, I'm just sad about it.

I also appreciate how all of the game's choices are extremely justifiable. It's not like the bad ending is a result of having some devil-may-care attitude where you walk around being a dick to everyone (like in KOTOR or Mass Effect). I mean I really feel like I did what I did in the situations I was in and I had no regrets about those decisions - they just happened to lead to an unfortunate series of events. It was really well done, did not feel binary or "pick a button" whatsoever.

There's a potion you can buy for 1000 crowns that allows you to re-spec your points. No need to worry.

Got a question :

Ive recently arrived at the bloody Baron quest and while i know that at that point i am barely scratching the surface of the game i am wondering about my armor :

I am still wearing my starter armor and while avoiding attacks is easy enough to survive fights i still think now that i am level 5 i want something new .

Are there any worthwhile armor sets nearby that i can buy/craft in that area ?

I am eventually going for the Feline armor set .

In terms of the ending,
if you tell both Triss and Yen that you love them, you should get a threesome scene where they tie you to a bed and then leave you there. At the end of the game you're told that Geralt lived out his days alone.

That's very, VERY badly handled by cdpr. It's the only part of the story that doesn't sit well with me (rest is amazingly written). Feels like the needle jumping a scratch on a vynil.

Someone he could genuinely love though? Guy's a total man-whore, but I think the closest relationship he had besides those two was with the sorceress from Nilfgaard whose name I forget. Even then, he was calling out Yennefer's name during their throes of passion, if I remember correctly. :p

[EDIT] - Fringilla Vigo. There we go.

That's not really true, especially in Geralt's situation.
Besides,
there's too much stuff that happens between deciding to not let go Triss and meeting Yen. And the whole "*poof* magic is gone. So what now?" is just dumb.
I think they just wanted to be sure not to piss off the feminsts and end up like with the first Witcher's cards.
