Hm. Well, if this is true, Craig's Bond career peaked with his first film. Casino Royale was the only one that felt tailored for him, while the others were awkwardly trying to recapture the magic of older Bond films, Spectre being the worst offender (and my least favorite film in the franchise).
I'm really not sure where there series can go from here, but whatever happens, the films need a more constant tone. The series has fluctuated from more grounded spy thrillers to silly, gadget-riddled romps. Skyfall and Spectre seems like they didn't know what they fuck they wanted to be, and given how the Bond series can't keep up with the better action films of today (like John Wick), maybe the producers think going "woke" is the best solution.
I think the answer is to go with a simple spy thriller. A day in the life of Bond where he doesn't go rogue, isn't trying to save the world, but just needs to collect intel and assassinate someone--perhaps treat it like a cat-and-mouse game between him and the villain. Build up an interesting dynamic, have some great action scenes that show Bond's resourcefulness, and have hints of Bond's character (like his alcoholic side?) without making the story about Bond himself. Keep it about the mission.

It's really hard to appeal to both. lotta girls don't give a sh!t about action and lotta guys don't give a sh!t about lifetime movies for a reason and what happens is neither side is going to leave the theater fully satisfied and won't re-watch again whereas if the film was for men theres a higher chance they'll rewatch it in the future and low chance for women and if it was for women, theres a higher chance they will re-watch it and a lower chance for men. but at least one side comes out satisfied and have their viewing needs met. give one side the whole steak or nothing at all. u cant please everybody

It really is a shame.
He got smacked with
-A writer’s strike destroying the second movie
-Studio financial troubles killing a third for years
-A complete dropping of the ball by creatives in Spectre, just when Skyfall had revived things
-Social justice now making a literal mockery out of his final bow in the role.
In the end, we only really got two good movies out of his time, Casino Royale, and the not perfect, but still awesome Skyfall.
Not too bad a deal, given the former is a legend, and the latter was loved as well, but it’s a far cry from the amazing optimism everyone felt for the future when the Casino Royale end credits rolled.

As a talking point, don't you think it'd be better to have a Female James Bond rather than shift the idea to Male Bond being 'out of fashion'?
My reason for saying this is that seems crazy to destroy one of the characteristics people like about Bond. Sure it might reflect his shallowness (can we argue that??) but it's clearly part of his charismatic charm and why a lot of people watch the movies. Without it there's not a whole heap to him as a person - nobody watches Bond for the action alone!

Hey writers, here’s an idea. What if there’s like, a backboard on the garbage can and 007 tosses the tampon in and it gets a cool blood splatter effect, then Bond says “Nice one Kobe” and then 007 immediately turns and shoots him in the face for 1) comparing her to a male instead of one of the WNBA’s many superstars 2) comparing her to a RAAAAAPIST and 3) something about racism because she’s black and it’s a basketball reference.

For fuck's sake. We KNOW women menstruate and use pads and other sanitary products. Why would we need to see that? Especially in a Bond film? Are they worried we wouldn't be able to tell that she's a "real woman" unless they explicitly show her popping a breast pump off her nipple and storing breast milk in the fridge, tossing a bloody tampon into the trash, or having her gyno exam interrupted by a call from MI6 to warn of a nuclear threat? We get it, you're a woman. If you're gonna take up the 007 mantle, can you just give us a 007 film and spare us the irrelevant "Here's stuff that women do that men don't/can't do." garbage? She doesn't need to prove she's a woman, she needs to prove she is capable of being 007.

I'm just a sucker for Bond films, I enjoy every single one of them on some level. I'm not quite at the point where I'm taking a stand against the franchise like I am with Star Wars lol. We'll see how this goes.

The reason they don't go full woke is because they know that the primary audience for these movies is still men. So they need men to go see the movies, but if they soy it up enough they think they can guilt us into watching these movies lest we be labeled toxic and misgynoist. But Ghostbuster and Dark Fate have shown it doesn't work.
