The Wonder Years reboot to focus on a Black family in 1960s Alabama

Presumably this is a kids show. Does "The Wonder Years" have ANY resonance with that demographic?

I could sorta see a grown-up spin off with Savage as a dad (wait, has that already been done?) but this is just a name grab. Minimal interest no matter who is in it or when it is set.

I don't see any world where the youth of today has any interest in this. Doing the palate swap on the family likely will turn off a big chunk of the original shows demograph...so who's left?

The problem a spin-off would run into is the same one stupid Disney ran into with Girl Meets World being a terrible spin off of Boy Meets World. I grew up on BMW and love the show, gave the new one a chance and all I thought was why aren't they giving more screen time to the characters we care about? I think same thing would happen if they did a spin off here, unless they were smart and had alot built around the parent and his relationship with his kids.

Finally, a show starring a black family. Take that white supremacists.

Joke will be on them when 5 years from now their black Wonder Years will be replaced with an all hispanic version, and the long awaited Marvel masterpiece Tan Panther. It's all coming full circle of dumb.

Truth told I think that era pisses people off more these days, "Don't worry my sugar honey wifey, you can stay at home with the kids, my six hour a day job will be enough to own this 3 bedroom luxury house, our first car, land ownership and pay for all our shopping needs. However we might need to save for a month or two to afford that second car".
Yeah that didn’t happen in the 1950’s.

most people (including whites) lived in poverty. White picket fences was the goal, not the standard

I was very young when it came out, but I always appreciated the show. The experiences he had while growing up weren't that outdated. Few shows have ever recreated those moments that well.

We all know what this show is going to be about. Stirring up more racial tension. How he's not allowed to have white friends or like white girls. Getting stopped by the police. Etc etc

That's a whole lot of assumptions for a show that doesn't even exist yet. Most of this show will probably be similar to the original in that it's just a coming of age show. And even if they do some storylines like that... so what? It's not going to be every episode and these issues existed back then and were worse then in a lot of ways.

The original WY's had episodes on topics that were just as important in that era (Vietnam, PTSD, death, ect.), that no one is complaining about, and rightfully so.
