The Wonderful 101 had Platinum's biggest team size and their longest dev cycle

What? I even posted in the OT that I loved it. Would you rather I have not bought it at all? After I got my Wii, it was on discount on Newegg and I got a friend to buy and ship it to me. What did I do wrong? :(
You didn't buy it hard enough. ;____; Treasure is stuck porting their old games because of you.

The sales of a game don't effect my opinion of it, I just have a hobby of discussing the business side of the industry as well.

Probably over half of my favorite games have either totally tanked, had their developers get shut down, their series become unviable and/or unrecognizable in an effort to appeal to the mainstream/deal with market change, had their sub-genre fade away, or somehow otherwise imploded in a way that prevents me from getting more good games from that series and/or developer, but that still doesn't make me like the games less.

Yeah, it's not like the game doing horrendously will impact my enjoyment. To the contrary, i will actually enjoy it more knowing that a sequel is never coming so i should enjoy that game to the fullest. The shift in the industry has been disastrous for the types of games i like to play so seeing something that's probably not going to do well is just annoying

That's a damn shame. So much wasted potential. I would but a Wii U just to buy this game if I had the means right now.

I'd love to hear you explain why Platinum giving an amazing looking game their biggest team ever and the most development time ever can in any way be considered "wasted potential." Are you saying the game is not going to be fun and the end product will not justify the team size and development time?

Probably that the ip will never go anywhere from here.

I don't think Platinum's ultimately problem is that this game is going to sell notably worse than Anarchy Reigns, given that it's almost assured to hit at least that low bar, but that the number of Japanese publishers willing to fund major console games with a fair chance to bomb is dwindling quickly as they polarize to the extremes of "AAAA blockbuster" and "social/mobile game".

If Nintendo and Konami are fine with signing more projects indefinitely they don't really have an issue, but that's the main question facing them, since places like Square Enix, Capcom, and (obviously) Sega aren't likely to pick up their projects, and companies like Tecmo Koei and smaller aren't likely to have the funds to fund them.

There's one other Japanese publisher which you haven't mentioned.

Wonderful 101 is gonna bomb.....I`m gonna cry when that happens....its all Nintendo's fault

Not all Nintendo's fault.

Gamers know it's coming. They love Platinum games and all that, but the blood is on their hands as well for not buying the Wii U to play this game.

Probably that the ip will never go anywhere from here.

At least we're getting one, and I for one am thankful that Platinum is making it the best it can possibly be. "Wasted potential" would be a board room deciding that the game won't sell well, then giving it to the interns to finish up and churn out.

Probably that the ip will never go anywhere from here.

Y'know, a lot of us complain (myself included) that Nintendo doesn't make any new ips, and here we have a brand new one, that just looks badass.

Whether it goes anywhere or not, it's what we need to see more of.

Really wish I could buy it day 1 to show my support, but I'm really not in the position to be buying a lot of games at the moment.

I hope it finds an audience though, it looks awesome.

This game is going to be incredible. So much so that it'll truly be the first game on the wii u that sets off a boom. It will be the first true system seller and will captivate the imaginations of gamers across the world. It will sell at least 2 million copies, in the long run, world wide. The sales will then warrant a sequel.

There, I think I balanced things out.

My big fear is a platinum bankruptcy or fire sale to Gung-ho. Time will tell I guess.

I have read in an interview that Platinum said (Inaba perhaps) that even if they do dissolve, a new developer will be created.

Much like how Clover Studios gave birth to Platinum.

Platinum are like a phoenix.

Who is PlatinumGamesJP anyway? Just a regular unknown employee of this developper or someone we actually know the position/name?

Certainly didn't take long for people to rush in here and make a post about how this game will bomb. Can't we talk about... oh... I don't know... what the TOPIC is about? Yes, sales potential is related to W101 but it's not related to this article. Is no one excited to hear about the potential of content in this game and how much work Platinum put into it? No?

Then don't post. Shitting up the thread with it. No, every W101 thread is shitted up with it. It's as bad as Killer is Dead threads or any of Suda51's game threads where people go, "Oh another Suda51 game, instant BOMBA". It's not funny because it's Platinum Games, and while yes you may have actual sympathetic feelings about it, endlessly bringing it up changes nothing. If you want the game to sell well, fucking buy it even if you don't own a Wii U.

I agree with this

How bout all you people saying its gonna bomb go out and buy the game and tell others to buy the game instead of talking about how much its gonna bomb like its a fact.

I'm at a strict limit of 1 "big" game per month.

I originally bought the wii u for this+ rayman.

Then rayman got delayed until September, and wonderful 101 was given a September release...

Basically what I'm saying is so long, rayman. I've been looking forward to a new platinum game/this game in particular for too long to choose anything else

This will be my first Pimkin.

Absolutely can't wait. So glad Nintendo picked up this title. Looks stunning.

I'm going to sleep till it's Sept 15th. Wake me up in a month!

I'm getting this game Day 1 for sure!

Well I've got my pre order paid off and I'm going to play the shit out of this game.

Now everyone else! Give me your energy! Together we can do this!

Here is hoping people that have some interest in the game considers buying it. Day 1 for me.

I'd buy this game Day 1 if I owned a Wii U... hell, I might support Platinum and buy it day 1 and play it until next year.

You know what? Fuck it I'm going to buy a Wii U for this game. There's at least 7 current and upcoming games that's out this year that I'm interested in.

Can't fucking wait to play it.

I was going to wait until Bayonetta 2 hit to get a Wii U but I don't think I can hold out that long now.

Wonderful 101 looks goddamn amazing.

This game will be great and this together with the sick lineup coming this fall to next spring make a great argument for buying a wii u.
Buying day 1!!

I preorder it months ago. I for sure won't be part of the problem. :D

Platinum made an awesome game and I'll be sure to enjoy it.

The GAF hype is increasingly affecting me, I want and probably will buy this game D1
But I don't even own a Wii U and don't think I will before 2014

VJ fan here.

I love you guys.
Guaranteed day one purchase from me.
I'll buy all your games - and have them all so far.

Thanks for bringing the awesome :)

Just placed my order, now to finish Pikmin before this sucker arrives!

You guys are Wonderful

Of course I'll be there day one as well.

It looks like Viewtiful Joe meets Pikmin. It is being developed by Platinum. With that type of pedigree and concept, how can it be anything less than fun? My copy was preordered months ago.

IMO this will be a slow burner game. It's the kind of game that many new Wii U owners over the years will eventually buy.

Awesome games make a console worth owning, so its presence in the Wii U's library adds to the Wii U's worth.

Also, now there are full titles on the eShop, unlike with Wii, so anybody in the future who gets a Wii U can easily find the title and buy it online whereas they may never have known about it otherwise. (And apologies, before I followed the industry, I only got the "big" Nintendo games. I didn't know about Nintendo's other games until I read about the "rainfall" games on IGN and played Xenoblade, and I liked Xenoblade so much that I retroactively gave the other Nintendo games a look [$10 Sin and Punishment 2 and $10 Kirby's Epic Yarn ftw!])

So you know the high attach rate for NSMBU? It's not that "Nintendo gamers only buy Nintendo games" that has some truth, but that "Nintendo gamers only buy the big traditional Nintendo games" that might have more truth to it. One of Nintendo's challenges is to get the Nintendo gamers to look beyond the Mario's and Zelda's.

What must one do to get Red's mask? I'm wonderful, and I'll post pics...I just wanna know who to give my credit card info to so I can get it.

I love PG. Their games are exactly what I've always wanted videogames to evolve to.

The perfect mix of gamey gameplay and fun narrative.

I'll buy this and whatever else they bring out, but I fear Nintendo will do everything in it's power to not do anything to help this game sell the way it should.

Yeeeeeeah, the Wii U is looking to be my Platinum box. Infinite Space aside, I haven't missed picking up a Platinum Game yet. Buying the game on day 1. Might have to buy a Wii U a little after that though.

Finances. o_o

Nintendo needs to add WonderRed and Bayonetta in Smash Bros. There wouldn't be better exposure for these games than this.
