The X-Files S10 |OT| The Truth Is Still Out There - Mondays 8/7c

I'm torn on the premiere. It feels great to have the show back but the conspiracy plot seems a bit silly.
Still a better episode than the other X-files episode I watched last night on TV, the one with the cursed artifact from an indian tribe that made cats go on a killing spree.

Edit: Episode 2 has aired? Need to check it out then.

The episodes with the cats on a killing spree must have been one of the worst in the series whole run.

And be sure to check out episode 2, it's much better than the premiere.

I love the nostalgia heart string pulls I get when the bits of atmospheric music play throughout the episodes.

I'm really enjoying it.

That makes no sense when we saw the Syndicate planning for the invasion

I am definitely not saying everything fits but that's your explanation for the 2012 date as of right now. I believe Mulder even mentions 2012 in My Struggle as a mobilization date for the "conspiracy of men".

I think things will be clearer if Tad's story turns out not to be entirely true.

Exactly. Hell, Mulder's own father was in on it... Well both his biological father and the father who raised him.
I think the twist is going to be that the Syndicate was working with the "aliens", not the actual aliens. In that there was a shadowy organization even higher-up than the Syndicate that had been playing the role of "aliens" since Roswell to experiment with that tech. The Syndicate was their clean-up crew, and they were being played much the same way that the Syndicate was playing Mulder & everyone else.

We'll see if that's the direction Carter goes in, but I think that's what could happen.

So what happened to chris carters show on amazon? Does anyone know why amazon cancelled it after ordering a series? the pilot was alright, cant imagine his vision for the show was that bad.

Watching now and it's some of the worst acting I've ever seen.

I don't agree. Duchovny isn't great but it is certainly passable. The real problem is....

The acting is bad, but the writing is horrible.

Exactly. In episode one we get a that horrific "impassioned" dialog between M & S about where the truth is and wanting to believe.

This time we are treated to someone telling Mulder that, "The Truth Is In There" while pointing at his heart.

Just...ugh.

I almost wish that they hadn't made this.

Everything seems so by-the-numbers, that it's not very interesting.

I agree. What was with the faux flashbacks with zero context? I get that they are trying to show that both M & S are imagining what their life could have been but....it was just so ham fisted.

That was a tongue-in-cheek line of dialogue as part of a comedic scene though.

The "You want so badly to believe, Mulder" followed by "I do believe, that the Truth is out there" was meant to convey a dramatic moment.

I enjoyed the former, cringed at the latter.

Extremely entertaining, like watching Alex Jones but with proper actors.

Really shows what kind of cultural impact all these conspiracy theories have globally.

Episode 2 was like the show never left. What a delight!

It's remarkable how they got the tone just right.

I think both Duchovny and Anderson are a little rusty. Even in the special they mentioned it took a while to slip back into the roles.

It's so comforting watching this show after all this time. It's like a void was created that was never quite sealed. I'm really hoping for more seasons now.

Second season of that show is one of the greatest things of all time

I've only seen the first, but I think I own the first two. I've been meaning to revisit it and watch it all, but can't find the first disc of the DVD set.

I need to see Season 2, I guess. I liked Millennium.

Oh..the first episode was kind of meh.

But the 2nd episode? on point. At times it does feel like Mulder/Scully are mailing in their performances. But I'm ok with it lol.

Just watched this episode the other night. I was so close to skipping it on Netflix because it was slowly devolving into hotter and hotter garbage. I'm sad I watched it to completion.

I'm starting to think I want to watch just the mythology since the whole MOTW stuff isn't entertaining to me.

The first episode was terrible. It felt like the last movie. The second episode felt like X-Files. Not top tier X-Files but X-Files nonetheless. I said X-Files quite a lot. X-Files.

Yeah, thought it was excellent after a poor first episode. It was a fine pair of comfortable shoes. Hit all the right notes. Even David has his Mulder humour back with a pulse. Dialogue was much better. I now want more episodes and next week looks ace.

Vulture's ranking of every episode of the X-Files.

I don't know if it was posted already but the amount of quality on that list is exceptional.

This list is highly questionable. The series finale in the bottom ten. Yea some people hate it but others really like it. Dreamland 1 and 2 so low. One Father and Two Sons (the biggest arc of the series) doesn't even crack the top 100 (it should be way way higher). The biggest sin of all is the episode The Field Where I Died is in the top 100. This episode is always mentioned as being in the bottom five of worst episodes. Also Sunshine Days in the top 10 WTF.

The Field where I died is really great though and a million times better than the series finale. Sunshine days isn't in my top ten but I agree it would have been a better series finale.

Duchovny seemed to phone parts of the first episode in. Not Monday's.

Yeah, more or less. I really haven't thought much of these two so far, granted I've only seen the second movie once (is enough), I might actually give it a rewatch between now and number 3 thinking about it.

Wow. You're the first person who I've heard or read say that 2 is better than 1. They're leagues apart, in my opinion, and the first is far superior. No contest.

as unsatisfying a conclusion as the Samantha storyline is, the end of it still has one of the most beautiful mulder moments there is in the entire show. accepting the loss not with heartbreak but with joy. i absolutely loved it.

Yeah. The list itself wouldn't be my order but just browsing through it made me realize how many greats there were. It's ridiculous.

Carter should have collaborated with Frank Spotnitz on writing duties for Ep1 with Rob Bowman or Kim Manners directing (where are they?). Wong and Morgan collaborating with Manners directing for their episodes. This has yielded the best results in the past. Was skeptical about the new writer/director being one in the same format.

I agree completely. Episode 2 felt like a classic episode. Just little weird, a little creepy, a little government conspiracy and cover up.

It's not my #2 but it's a respectable choice

Nah, lol. Always thought Bad Blood was an overrated, poor man's Jose Chung. I'd probably put it somewhere around 40-50. Sunshine Days in the top 10 is a new level of Gilligan worship though.

Gilligan's episodes are not a patch on Darin Morgan's episodes in humor or quality. GOAT tier.

As far as Gilligan's episodes go, I'd put Pusher, Paper Hearts, Folie a Deux, Unruhe, X-Cops, Small Potatoes, Je Souhaite over it. Also think the last two are funnier.

Dreamland and Arcadia also funnier and better.

Also: Home, Quagmire, Tooms, Duane Barry, Die Hand Die Verletzt, Leonard Betts, Kill switch, Triangle, Field Trip. As well as a lot of the mythology episodes which were quite good the first few seasons (Alien bounty hunter, Black oil, CSM, Jeremiah Smith).

The girl I've been dating is watching The X-Files from the start on Netflix, and hasn't been able to see the new episodes because of only owning Netflix.

This is good. Maybe she'll want to watch some together.

She was actually watching Space when I spoke to her tonight, and had just watched one of my favourites, Ice.
