I just thought of an alternate, less retconny way to arrive at the new status quo. You experts tell me if it would have worked.
The plan to colonize Earth was a last ditch effort by the Greys. They are a dying breed without a sustainable homeworld.
The Syndicate's plan to create a vaccine against Black Oil succeeded, as such The Greys are no longer a threat to them.
Having successfully broken free of the Greys's influence over them, the Syndicate have been able to focus on their own nefarious plans for the past several years, which brings us to the new conspiracy.
Oh and the Syndicate turned into the New Syndicate at some point after the original gang was killed. Cancer Man still pulling the strings. I guess there are plenty more plot holes you would have to patch...
good to have the show back tho, hopefully it leads to a proper season. any word on the ratings?
The second movie was better.
There I said it.
what if mulder secretly suspects that the news guy is a plant/operative to put him off of the truth that he previously sought but is playing along to see what he can get out of it and piece it together?
Ummm, wot?
Then Mulder is also lying to Scully... so slim chance.
he's been not completely forthcoming with her before. there were several episodes about trust. if he feels she's any way in jeopardy, he won't clue her in until he needs to, as he has done before
Fair point but think back to the scene where Mulder is telling Scully about the new conspiracy. He sounds like he's having a legitimate epiphany right there on the phone.
Again, it's not impossible but I don't think this is where Carter is headed right now.
Probably posted already, but X-Files was the highest-rated broadcast program on Monday.
More episodes hopefully to come!

Actually the New Syndicate was lead by the Toothpick Man who was an Alien Supersoldier. Cancer Man was thought to be dead as Krycek was thought to have killed him at the end of season 7.I just thought of an alternate, less retconny way to arrive at the new status quo. My theory is that colonization is still being planned but it was delayed either to discredit Mulder or due to some other reason. I hope this theory pans out as I do not like the new angle and it contradicts what we already know and expect.
Also, if they indeed switched episode 4 and put it yesterday, it's going to be a weird comeback episode when it finally occurs.

No, they were given 3. First they were only going to give out the first episode. Then the reviews came out. Then they said "OH SHIT!" and gave them the next 2 episodes.Have any of the reviewers seen all six episodes? Couldn't remember how many folks were actually given.
lol why would they do this?! makes no sense.
This iteration's first monster-of-the-week episode, which did not technically include any monster, was originally intended as No. 5. But when Fox had the entire series in the can, it was decided that "Founder's Mutation" would kick off the stand-alones. "It has thematic connections to Chris' first episode, so they put it in second position," writer and director James Wong or, Jim, as he's better known told The Hollywood Reporter in December. "I'm really happy with it."
So was there ever confirmation on the Lone Gunmen returning?
The actors on set answering interviews about how they're happy to return ?
Finally caught up with the episodes, so far it's exactly what I expected. Chris Carter lost it a long time ago and I don't expect anything good from him. There is a lot of other talent attached to the series though and I expect the trend of MotW outclassing the mytharc episodes to continue. It's a shame because I really enjoyed the mythology during the first four seasons of the show but it's been a jumbled mess for so long and Carter insists on sticking with it, making it even more convoluted and tiresome in the process. If this gets a full series I really hope Carter takes a step back and hands someone else the reins. I know it won't happen but man, what we've come to expect from television has really passed him by.
honestly the creepiest part of the episode was the founder's wife. something about the shape of her face and the way her eyes moved scared the shit out of me.
I remembered not liking Bad Blood and thinking that it was dumb, but it's not. I just watched it again, and it's a really solid episode.
Well that explains why Scully was all Fedded up again after lamenting about it so an episode ago.
You know,i cant help but to think that the second episode felt much better because Chris Carter didn't wrote it.
They already did.
There was no invasion planned. That was a smoke screen to subdue Mulder's quest for the truth and hide the real truth that a shadow government were using acquired alien technology to plan their own take over. The 2012 date may have been some sort of mobilization date for that.
The aliens had no designs on invasion, at least in the conventional sense. It's obvious that the black oil was up to something nefarious as it controlled the shape shifting grey alien bounty hunters. Then there was the group that was fighting against them, the ones who sowed their eyes and mouths shut.
Exactly. Hell, Mulder's own father was in on it... Well both his biological father and the father who raised him. That makes no sense when we saw the Syndicate planning for the invasion
If Founder's Mutation was meant to be the fifth episode, why does Skinner say "welcome back, you two"?
