That gif of Gillian sure looks nice. That actually from the new season?

Is it a must that finish the previous seasons first? I never made it very far, I think I was busy with Season 3 and I've yet to continue with it. I should, right?

While I think you wouldn't be totally lost as they explain things well, the continuation won't have the same impact.

PMP is brilliant. Probably his best work, but I always feel it kind of ruined him into thinking he could pull anything off, leading to episodes like Triangle where he tried to ape Hitchcock which was always going to be a disaster.

His monster of the week stuff was never quite on the Morgan and Wong level, but he had some strong ones like Flukeman.

Don't forget Irresistible. That episode expanded the scope of the show in a memorable way, in that it signaled that it could be as much about the characters as the case of the week.

I feel like Chris Carter's MOTW stuff is underrated actually. Morgan & Wong were the kings but he wrote some fantastic episodes too. And the way he interwove mythology with standalone was masterful. Duane Barry is an all-time great and it stands completely alone aside from the ending.

Just finished watching the 3rd episode and was pleasantly surprised that they casted Rhys Darby for it.

I was half-expecting Guy Mann to continue working a regular job until eventually becoming a manager for a pop folk band from New Zealand

Never thought I'd hear two characters debating Hamlet on the X-Files.

Oh man this one was a classic. I love when a normally serious TV show can take a step back and make fun of itself, hang a lampshade over its tropes, and do some silly stuff that fans have always wanted.

Dialogue was hilarious, not only with Rhys Darby but with the psychiatrist as well.

Darby was perfectly cast, and the twist on being a lizard bitten by a human and then having to "become" a human by getting a job and savings and a dog was perfectly balanced between comedy and tragedy.

Before you came to me, you were poor and you had no gigs. Now look at you.

We're poor and we've got no gigs.
We're slightly poorer.

Yeah. On the one hand it's just GAF and we're goofing around so of course an imaginary sequence where Scully isn't getting enough junk pics is a thing, but the bold was really fun/kind of important yet hardly anyone seems to give a shit. And that's fine, but I liked it, too.

Yea I'm really really dug this episode I thought the twist on a lizard becoming a human was a great touch. At first I wasn't digging this season, the first episode was kinda off and I couldn't help but laugh at the cigarette smoking man being alive. It was almost too silly, but the rest of the season has kinda followed that. It's almost like it's not supposed to be very serious, but instead just fun and I really like it.

One of the great parts is that while Guy Mann is telling his outlandish story, Mulder is basically buying the whole thing, right up until Guy talks about making it with Scully. Mulder is like, "nah that part's bullshit." And Guy is like, "yeah, you're right. Us humans like to boast about our sexual escapades."

And Mulder just kinda nods.

Can I just watch this without having watched the previous seasons?

kind of the WotW (Montser of the week)episodes are standalone...but the mythos episodes will be lost on you.... you can watch the whole series in HD on netflix...its what im doing... Ive been re-watching all of them( well the really good ones) show is fucking awesome...
Scully <3

Which season do people think is the best any ways? It can't be anything past 5, right?

I think every season varies in quality and any list of favorites I might put together would contain episodes from every season, so for me to rank seasons would feel pointless.

That being said, I will try to make a list of favorites in the future. But before that I still need to check out three standalone episodes from season 9 that I skipped in order to finish the series in time for season 10...

In fact, one of those three episodes is the Vince Gilligan penned Sunshine Days. I am tempted to just keep it as a "in case of emergency break glass" type thing...

I loved ep 01 and 02 but OMFG, 03 was horrible... I couldnt even finish watching it...

I don't really get why most of the series fans loved that ep, really...

Because most series fans probably rank the strong comedic episodes near the tops of their lists.

probably season 4 but I like 5 and 6 alot though... 7 is pretty good but its got about as many ok eps as season 4-6.. you can tell though in season 7 David stopped caring.. he's only a decent actor anyway.. if it wasn't for Gillian I'd have never bothered with this show.. her character is awesome and shes a waaay better actor.

one thing I noticed with David(Mudler) mofucka never fucking crys like WTF.... series spoilers... ...........
He's dad is killed... barely anything.. his mom comments suicide just a little tears... I think its manly because Duchovny just cant cry on cue like Gillian can... its just always pissed me off.. probably why I liked him in his other show more because he is a little funny and much better in a less serious role.

if that's the case for you then I just watch the mythos episodes.. you can do that and just get the alien story... but yeah most of the best writers through the show did the MOTW episodes. I loved that they took the mythos eps serious and where in a serious tone but some of the MOTW were basically comedies.. with is cool in my book...I love seeing Mudler and Scully being silly.. if the show was 100% serious all the time it would have gotten old really quick...

That's true!

I used to watch X-files as a Kid, and back in the day I didnt know what the word "filler" was, I didnt have internet, so I found it weird when those kind of fun episodes were aired :p

For me I have to look at episodes like this differently then a more serious, "monster" episode.

I found the episode to be extremely unique, surprising, funny and genuinely entertaining. Easily my favorite of the batch so far.

That being said, I really do wish we could get a couple, "creepy" episodes. So far the episodes that have aired have not be scary or creepy even a little bit which I find disappointing since that is what made the series so fantastic for me in the first place. Really hoping Monday's episode, "Home Again" will be a bit more creepy/horror.

Sunshine Days is pretty good, just watched it recently. I wouldn't say it's super funny, it's more cute/quirky. But it has some moments, the whole 'Brady Brunch' is kind of interesting.

It's a solid episode but not a top 10 imo.

This. Damn, I didn't expect to laugh so much as I started it.

Mulder's ringtone being the X Files theme music had me laughing.

These were great bits.

Right from when he pulled that second bottle out of his jacket lol.
I agree, the psychiatrist scene was great too.

The third episode nearly warrants a title change based solely on how good it was...

The X-Files S10 |OT| How Spooky got his groove back

Episode one was kinda bleh, episode two was better though I thought it felt off in spots with acting and especially dialog but three was great in an absurd comedy sense.

I was hyped for the ep after reading some musings here without spoilers. Even told my wife. Just got done watching and my wife now doesn't trust what I hear from the Internet.

It was definitely entertaining. Conversation at the cemetery had me laughing out loud more than most comedies I've recently seen. But episodes like that aren't what I was really hoping for, especially when there are only 6 or whatever. And ya know that's gonna be hit or miss for a lot of the audience. (X-files theme ringtone? Was reaching snl parody levels)

Edit: gotta say the scully and mulder felt like they hadn't skipped a beat in that ep. Best dynamic between them so far

ep 1 was shit
ep 2 was great
ep 3 was amazing

After ep 1 I was ready to pack this show in concrete and drop it in the ocean but 2 and 3 are making me wish they'd go all the way up to season 20! Of course it has to be said that ep 3 is something that you'd expect only once per season but still...

you can't put a price on sparks
finally caught up. what an amazing 3rd episode. classic X-Files right there. I'm glad they had enough mindset to at least have one episode of non-mythology stuff.

they touched upon all of the nostalgia that made the show great already. Fox and Dana getting scolded by Skinner in his office, the long speeches in the basement office, etc. i love the X-Files so much :(

and holy crap at anderson in the last episode >.>

the whole season her acting feels more muted/whispery/tired/defeated, so i'm wondering if its going to be like that the whole time for her

Fox posted a clip of the finale during halftime of the superbowl that they make it sound like they're gonna be taking back down after the game. It's a Scully version of the opening montage Mulder did at the start of the premiere.

edit:...and gone.

muahaha

Has there been any ratings released for the 3rd episode yet?

I'm loving this more than I thought I would. Each episode has had its own individual mood/atmosphere and style, just like it did back in the day. And the dynamics - like nothing's changed.

Great guest star to kick off episode 3 too.
