This episode could have used a seasoned director.
Right. I don't know why they gave the writer of each episode this season the directorial reins.

The problem I had with the Trash Man plot was there was absolutely no climax to it.
He just kills some people and disappears lol.

My condolences man.Man, this episode... My mother died same time last year from a heart attack. I guess I can relate to Sculli going catatonic for a moment.
This season (excluding episode 1) has been something else.
Yep. My biggest fault with it. I found him creepy enough, but there was really no ending. The problem I had with the Trash Man plot was there was absolutely no climax to it.

The first half was better than the second though there was some stuff they could have expanded and focused on like the creatures running around in the tunnels, some real creepy imagery there.
Also it was nice seeing that coup attempting bastard from Battlestar Galactica get torn up in the opening.
Agreed. If he was the artists' manifestation, why was he killing the last person when the artist is like "oh shit, I scared them enough, I don't need to kill them!"
I also felt the pacing was off putting the hospital segments in between. It was like the episode wanted you to feel sad/scared within a split second without any buildup which killed any sort of tension on the later trash man scenes.
I was kinda hoping they would attempt to touch on one of the old monsters or super natural people in this season.
I got really excited at the beginning of last week's episode thinking it was going to be a return of the monster from Detour. The designs are really similar. But it was an amazing episode regardless.
This ep was really uninteresting. Everything with Scull'y mom felt kind of unearned and anti-climactic and the monster story went nowhere. Worst ep of the season IMO.
Because he had gotten out of the artist's control.
I'm not gutted but it was a missed opportunity.I'm still gutted this wasn't a sequel to "Home."
I thought episode four was the weakest behind the first. They tried to cram two stories into one episode and neither got the development they deserved and they were really at odds with each other in terms of emotional impact.
Sad to see Margaret Scully go. I was bummed she didn't call Mulder, Fox as well. I thought the monster was just okay, but it's obvious they're building toward something with William going forward and I really hope that it's done well. Anyway, ratings are still good, so we'll see if all the parties agree to another go next season.
Finally got around to watching the first episode of this new 'mini' season and I can say, without exception, that it was one of the worst hours of television I've seen in years.
Between this and the pilot for Amazon Prime called The After, which was the worst TV pilot I have ever seen bar none, Chris Carter isn't just a hack but a man with so little talent he comes across as more of enthusiastic amateur.
At points I had no idea what the fuck was even going on and when I could grasp the almost non existent plot it just seemed so directionless and lackluster. The team of Mulder and Scully were reunited because some wafer thin Bill O'Reilly clone (in a miscast Joel McHale) wanted to meet them. Is that it?! No great inciting incident, no big revelation, just a fan wanting to say hi.
Awful, just awful.
After a poor ending to the show and a poor (and frankly baffling) ending to the second film it looks like this six episode series is going to give us yet another disappointing 'end' to the X-Files.

Some of the acting in this show is really standing out in a bad way. I'm Almost never taken out of a scene even when the acting is bad, but it has happened a couple times throughout a few episodes where I'm like "wow that was a really bad exchange."
In this last episode it was "are you threatening me?"
"Yes I'm threatening you"
"Well stop!"
Yeesh. I'm not expecting the world from this show but....yeesh
