Now what's the next step in your master plan?
The first half was better than the second though there was some stuff they could have expanded and focused on like the creatures running around in the tunnels, some real creepy imagery there.

Also it was nice seeing that coup attempting bastard from Battlestar Galactica get torn up in the opening.

TheSeks

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
The problem I had with the Trash Man plot was there was absolutely no climax to it.

He just kills some people and disappears lol.

Agreed. If he was the artists' manifestation, why was he killing the last person when the artist is like "oh shit, I scared them enough, I don't need to kill them!"

I thought it was fine. I liked seeing Gillian flex her acting muscles and it was a bit sad seeing her mom die. Especially since it was the original actor too.
Man, this episode... My mother died same time last year from a heart attack. I guess I can relate to Sculli going catatonic for a moment.

This season (excluding episode 1) has been something else.
My condolences man.

It's been a good season, barring episode 1.

Yep. My biggest fault with it. I found him creepy enough, but there was really no ending.

Not a good episode. Felt like it wasn't sure what it was suppose to be. The chemistry between mulder and scully is good enough to save any episode though.

Gaeda always gets shafted....

But yeah it peaked at the beginning and didn't really do anything else different with the monster. It was just kind of a rinse/repeat with his other killings, he shows up does his MK fatality and gets in his garbage truck.

I also felt the pacing was off putting the hospital segments in between. It was like the episode wanted you to feel sad/scared within a split second without any buildup which killed any sort of tension on the later trash man scenes.

Because he had gotten out of the artist's control. As the artist said, he never meant to kill anyone. He just empowered the golem, and it was killing everyone associated with the forced move.

The graffiti at the end also would seem to indicate that he's not gone. Just possibly in hibernation until something else comes up.

I was kinda hoping they would attempt to touch on one of the old monsters or super natural people in this season.

Flukeman 2 Portajohn Boogaloo anyone? I'd also be down for another episode about the giant insect that hides in plain site in call centers and starts zombifying the employees.

If I have two recurring criticisms this season... things feeling rushed, and things looking too bright shiny and new.

Should have titled this week's episode, "Mulder and Scully Meet The Trash Monster"

It was pretty good. Gillian gave a great performance, and David was on-point with his classic Mulderisms. Also, nice throwback to the "Wonderful, Wonderful" scene from "Home" by playing Petula Clark's "Downtown" over another brutal killing. That's another song that is way too happy, to the point of almost being creepy.

The "monster of the week" aspect was a bit half-baked, the byproduct of the episode spending significant time on the larger arc. With only 6 episodes, it's to be expected, but I don't really mind it either. They added something special to both "Founder's Mutation" and "Home Again", which were both solid but unremarkable monster-of-the-week episodes otherwise.

I got really excited at the beginning of last week's episode thinking it was going to be a return of the monster from Detour. The designs are really similar. But it was an amazing episode regardless.

This ep was really uninteresting. Everything with Scull'y mom felt kind of unearned and anti-climactic and the monster story went nowhere. Worst ep of the season IMO.

Thought this was really good. At most it suffered from a lack of focus but it had a quality monster and Anderson's acting was fantastic.

It's still waiting under Scully's bed in a motel room in Florida.

Now whenever someone will ask if you remember the X-Files episode with the trash golem, they'll have to specify if it's the one where Mulder and Scully pose undercover as a married couple, or if it's the one starring the lead singer from Rancid.

Because he had gotten out of the artist's control.

Right, but the ending had the artist put a Happy Face over that sculpture. Which implies (at least to me) that he still had some form of control over the monster which makes that "HE'S OUTTA OF MY CONTROL" a bit... bunk, IMO.

Kind of an awkward episode, but seriously, we're watching new X-Files episodes in two thousand and fucking sixteen. More Mulder and Scully is never a bad thing.

lol Everyone died and they just cut to the beach. Though I feel like in earlier episodes they had more of a conclusion, even if the monster isn't exactly stopped.

Who's willing to bet their son comes back all fucked up in some way?

I enjoyed it. The trash man was legitimately creepy. The world needs more Xfiles on TV. I haven't looked forward to TV on the alphabet networks like this since the 90s. I need more of this.

I didn't even remember Scully had a second brother.

Kind of skeptical about next week just based off the preview.

Loved every episode and this one was no different. Sad as shit to think we only have two more to go. Really hope the ratings continue to do well and see another season happen. I just hope it's more than 6, gimme 10 and I'll be happy.

I don't think it was a bad episode. I do think they could have done more with it though, but I do feel that's more of an effect on this season being constrained to 6 episodes. With luck this ratings will continue to prove this miniseries a success so we can get more episodes and a 3rd film in the very near future.

I'm still gutted this wasn't a sequel to "Home."
I'm not gutted but it was a missed opportunity.

I have been a little disappointed with the overall quality so far with these six episodes but I do think episode 3 was genuinely good. My review scores so far are as follow:

Episode 1 = 8.0
Episode 2 = 8.5
Episode 3 = 9.5
Episode 4 = 8.0

We only have two episodes left. Next episode looks kind of boring though I am hoping it's not and I am hoping the (hopefully season finale) will be better then the season premiere.

I watched it, and I did like it. I'm just not sure of how much.

The opening really caught me off guard and felt out of place (too cheesy, and kind of low-budget horror movie-esque) and some of the acting was pretty bad (the officials). But it had some really solid moments.

I might have enjoyed the first episode more.

Just saw ep 4, thought it was good'ish, sorta like the second one, maybe a little better.
Is it just me that thinks it's a bit weird that Scully is doing almost all the talking in this new series thus far?

It seems almost all the "acting" comes from Gillian Anderson this time, almost as if the show was retooled to focus a lot more on her than them both this time around.
For long stretches of time during both ep 2 and ep 4 Mulder hardly says anything, he's just being "there" and makes some faces.
I guess you "could" explain it away with Mulder being "depressed" but that just feels like making excuses, I just found it a bit weird.

I also think it's a shame they felt they had to shoehorn in larger arcs into these "monster of the week" episodes, neither part of the plot feels like it gets enough time to breathe now. It just feels a bit half baked.

I thought episode four was the weakest behind the first. They tried to cram two stories into one episode and neither got the development they deserved and they were really at odds with each other in terms of emotional impact. The Trashman angle felt particularly rushed. The way he was revealed (boring monologue) to its lack of conclusion. 3>2>4>1 for me so far.

Another fantastic episode. Really glad how the show turned out after that awful premiere. Here's to hope Carter got it right the second and third time around. :-/

I don't think it was a bad episode, but lets face it. We peaked w/ the Were Monster episode. Gonna be hard to top that.

X-Files has generic monster episodes in every season. This one was fine as far as that goes. Though with only 6 episodes every one needs to shine.

Sad to see Margaret Scully go. I was bummed she didn't call Mulder, Fox as well. I thought the monster was just okay, but it's obvious they're building toward something with William going forward and I really hope that it's done well. Anyway, ratings are still good, so we'll see if all the parties agree to another go next season.

This is how I felt, for the most part. I didn't like the opening and felt that they rushed two story segments in one episode.
Mrs. Scully
deserved more time, and the episode suffered from pacing problems.

I did enjoy it overall, but it was a bit disappointing.

I guess I'd say 3>2>1>4 as well. But I've enjoyed each one.

Agreed.

Finally got around to watching the first episode of this new 'mini' season and I can say, without exception, that it was one of the worst hours of television I've seen in years.

Between this and the pilot for Amazon Prime called The After, which was the worst TV pilot I have ever seen bar none, Chris Carter isn't just a hack but a man with so little talent he comes across as more of enthusiastic amateur.

At points I had no idea what the fuck was even going on and when I could grasp the almost non existent plot it just seemed so directionless and lackluster. The team of Mulder and Scully were reunited because some wafer thin Bill O'Reilly clone (in a miscast Joel McHale) wanted to meet them. Is that it?! No great inciting incident, no big revelation, just a fan wanting to say hi.

Awful, just awful.

After a poor ending to the show and a poor (and frankly baffling) ending to the second film it looks like this six episode series is going to give us yet another disappointing 'end' to the X-Files.

I think it was on okay episode but, as already mentioned, could have used a little more time to breathe. While both stories had a lot of potential none really lived up to it.

Episode 1 was a tough one to chew through, no doubt. But keep watching. Ep 2 is decent, Ep 3 is amazing and Ep 4 is okay. They're all leagues better than Ep 1.

Also, Mulder's face when he shook the Magic 8 Ball and looked at the result... L. O. L.

Episode 3 is one of the best in the entire series.

Some of the acting in this show is really standing out in a bad way. I'm Almost never taken out of a scene even when the acting is bad, but it has happened a couple times throughout a few episodes where I'm like "wow that was a really bad exchange."

In this last episode it was "are you threatening me?"
"Yes I'm threatening you"
"Well stop!"

Yeesh. I'm not expecting the world from this show but....yeesh

I don't think many fans were expecting quality on the Chris Carter mythology front. Maybe hoping, but not expecting. Most of us are just happy to be getting these monster-of-the-week episodes.

Btw this season
ends on a cliffhanger.
My advice is to give up the idea of a satisfying conclusion to the myth arc and just enjoy the standalone shenanigans.

saw My struggle last night on TV, was on the one hand really silly and some parts badly acted, and in others a nice x-files episode with updated SFX.

and Joel McHale was basically Jeff Winger, shit wish Annie came on and Scully and her went at it.. wait where was I??
oh Mulder is crazy now he seemed a parody of himself, I would love it if they rebooted the show with Mulder going 180 at the start and being totally skeptical and non mulder like only to go into old mulder. holy crap the series reboot has kinda gone dark skies..

is there anyword if they are going to add more seasons after or a movie or is this a one off?
