The X-Files S10 |OT| The Truth Is Still Out There - Mondays 8/7c

well the episodes name was "Home Again," the original "Home" explored the themes of motherhood amongst other themes. The opening of home has a grotesque baby being found buried, kind of like a piece of trash. At the end of "Home Again" Scully says i hope he doesnt think we got rid of him like a piece of trash, or something like that.

It's funny how the rerun I've been watching has been kinda in sync with some of these references in the new season.
Last week there was a reference to Queequeg and I had watched the episode with him just the day before.
This week I watched Home the day before I watched Home Again. Here they're airing the new show on Tuesday and Home was this week's Monday episode in the rerun.

Beyond themes of motherhood this doesn't really have anything else in common with Home.

I really thought we were going to see the Peacocks again. :(

Damn, that was a sad episode.

I really need to rewatch the X-Files older series, why are the blurays so expensive??

because FOX. just wait for an amazon deal of the day or something. Thats what im doing. I even have a price alert for it.

Finished The Post Modern Prometheus this morning. Another really good episode, with a lot of character. The black and white, plus the mob scenes, were awesome.

last episode was pretty creepy, i thought. it was two episodes mashed into one, and im sure that's a product of there being so few episodes available.
Writer interview pretty much said as much. If it was a 10 or 13 episode season he probably would have wrote those stories as 2 separate episodes.

Yeah, but I'm afraid of how long it will last on there. Everything on Netflix is based on a contract. Don't want to be in mid season and they yank it off.

Kinda want to own the show too for my shelf.
I checked and couldn't find any info about it being cancelled anytime soon. I did find this, however:

Watching The X-Files on Netflix comes with a particular advantage as some seasons are available in a HD format not seen before. Spanning 202 episodes the show focusses on two detectives who seek out the supernatural. There’s also never been a better time to get into the show as from January there’ll be all new episodes as part of a new miniseries that will bring the show back almost a decade and a half after it ended.

The new Season 8 discs should be getting out to stores by March, I think. I know they are sending me my replacement Season 8 discs for March. I would hold off on buying that season at this point until you know you are getting ones with proper colour/black levels.

Watched Sanguinarium yesterday. In a world with so many crime shows where every single crime is resolved and every episode ends with the criminals behind bars, it's really interesting to go back to episodes like this one. Not only does the killer get away but he plays them like a fiddle.

just watched the first episode, i've never seen the x files before but do like my sci fi so figured now was a good chance. I quite enjoyed it, it's a bit cheesy, but i'll certainly give it a chance

It's pretty fascinating how incredibly different the original X-Files pilot is from the first episode of this new miniseries. You should watch it if you have Netflix. It looks great in its remastered form.

Episode 5 is currently up on Hulu

I don't know what the hell that was. Simultaneously progressive and horrendously regressive. I'm not sure I enjoy this 'political' stuff that's seeping into this season, not when it doesn't seem to be saying anything insightful.

But that... well... that scene. In the middle. With all the music and visuals. My god that was some wonderful nonsense. It saved the episode for me.

Something I noticed. Episodes 1&2 (which have Mitch Pileggi added to the opening credits) use the correct font while 3&4 use the bluray opening which has a different font.

I love the blurays but this is the one tiny thing that bugs me (as well as the different font used for the on-screen text).

That's odd

Love this episode, one of the best body horror ones in the series too, some legit gruesome imagery in there.

I was watching it last night on Netflix and you were right about how good it looks.

I was watching thinking "how in the fuck did they do this?"

Same, I was expecting the hd transfer to show the cheapness of things in the early seasons, nope. Makes it look cinematic af.

I was also expecting things like creature makeup and design to look poorer but in fact I think they actually look better. Like the flukeman. If it looks this good now it gives me an idea of how cinematic the show must've been by 1993 standards (I was too young then).

Has anyone watched the other shows Chris Carter has made? Are they worth it?

I haven't heard much about either The Lone Gunmen (besides their role on the X-Files obviously), Harsh Realm or Millennium so don't really seem like forgotten cult classics

Millennium was good.

I remember watching Lone Gunmen but I don't remember anything about it so I'm going to assume it was bad. I don't think anyone wanted a show about those 3 guys.

Managed to get seasons 1 - 4 on bluray at Amazon for about $35 and reward points.

Season 4 is temporarily out of stock, but by the time I get to season 4, it should be in stock. Excite.

I hate both, I liked the original which was a thinner type face and creepier.

I just started watching the series, currently on episode 12 of season 1 and it's really interesting. I have a few questions though, simple answers if possible lol.
Do any of the events that take place in one episode get carried on to other episodes or other seasons?
Is there a point where people @ the FBI stop acting clueless.
What is the worst season?

Thanks! lol

1. Yes events carry over. The mythology becomes deep and is addressed throughout the series. Also some monsters/cases come back.
2. I think this is addressed as well. There are people in the know and then maybe regular agents and people who don't know what is really going on.
3. I loved seasons 1-6, seasons 7-9 are a bit weak due to the move to LA for filming, the losing interest from the actors, tired writers and David and Gillian not being in much of the last season or so. Still it never reaches shit status in my opinion and remained pretty solid to the very end. At least that is how I felt.

Just watched the teaser for Monday's episode. I'm worried about it, because it seems silly with the parallel agents -- even if one is played by Lauren Ambrose of GOAT Six Feet Under fame.

I feel the same way.

Yes. Though it might take wikipedia to make sense of it all. There's a lot of back and forth.

FBI People start playing bigger roles as the series goes on.

Probably the last season, only because the main stars take a back seat. Truth is, I love Doggett and that got me through later seasons. Great character and Robert Patrick is fantastic, plus the last couple seasons, despite the writing more inconsistent, allowed Anderson to really act her ass off. Some of her best work, she really grew as an actress as the series went on and Scully has emotional gut punches left and right.

Dogget and Reyes were both good characters and they were well cast. I enjoyed their episodes, but they also didn't get a fair shake having to come in and pinch hit like that.

EDIT: Why did Duchovny leave the show again?

So I watched the next episode... yesterday. It was on Hulu. It's gone now.

Yes, the one with the other agents, in Texas. Won't say more not to spoil things. Someone made a mistake as the airing date was listed as 02.14.2016. This was on the AppleTV Hulu app.

Reyes was awful come on... I still shudder thinking about that episode were she talks Spanish. Yikes.

I remember he just wanted to do something different?

I remember reading an interview about Duchovny's fear of typecasting years ago, and there're always rumors suggesting that he and Gillian don't actually see eye to eye most of the time.

Personally I think fear of typecasting is the more probable answer.

Not the best, just good. But there is a very funny sequence that will be GIF material.

Alright thanks. Yeah I will admit that other then episode 3, I've been rather disappointed with these X-Files episodes. Nowhere near as good as the original run despite having the same writers and team back. Eh oh well. :/
