Took my wife's 11-year-old cousin to Universal yesterday. He had only ever been to Disney before, so thrill rides were completely foreign to him.

Had my GoPro with me for the day and snapped some photos. Here we are on the Hulk:

I have a bunch where he looks really unsure of himself. Like, he starts off gung-ho on Dueling Dragons and quickly looks like either fear or vomit, not sure which.

No, I dont think it opened yet...

Theme Park Investigators went over to check out the new Hershey’s Chocolate World outside the NY/NY Casino and unfortunately, it appears the rumors on Facebook of a possible June 3rd opening are false, as the site still appears to have a bit of work left to finish before it will be ready for guests. Follow the link and check out the pictures.

Full year of Carsland bumped up California Adventure giving Disney the top 6 spots domestically. Might be short lived with Universal's plans this year.

Nothing beats that launch into the one-G roll. NOTHING

But I like Mummy slightly more for dat airtime. Don't hate me.

Medusa/Bizarro at Six Flags Great Adventure has a zero-g which is just as fun. Although I like the horseshoe inversions on Maverick a lot more than anything else.

I traveled to Six Flags Magic Mountain on a weekday two weeks ago. The park completely dropped the ball and disappointed me at every turn. Here's some general thoughts:

-What happened to Apocalypse/Terminator?! It opened with rave reviews, reportedly glass smooth, and full of airtime. My first ride turned into anything but that! I hated every moment of the coaster. I'm guessing Six Flags didn't invest in retracking this ride which has soo much potential? It's worse than Mean Streak, Rolling Thunder (RIP), and The Raging Wolf Bob (RIP); that's a hard feat to top.

-Riddler's Revenge ended up as my highlight of the day. I've been on Chang (when it was at Kentucky Kingdom)/Green Lantern (as it's now called at Six Flags Great Adventure) as well as Mantis at Cedar Point. I never really enjoyed Standup Coasters from B&M. Riddler's changed all of that. It's probably one of my favorite B&M loopers next to Kraken, Medusa/Bizarro, and Manta.

-Big minus and negative on overall park operations. Barely any of the flat rides were operating, X2 was closed all day(the one ride I REALLY wanted to get on...), Ninja only worked for about an hour, Goliath kept having issues, and Superman didn't operate at all. Totally disappointed at Six Flags maintenance for these issues. Many of the rides could use a fresh coat of paint, too. Tatsu, despite a fantastic ride, looked awful with the faded track and supports.

-I'd like to meet whoever thought revolution needs the shoulder restraints. I regret riding that ride due to the awful restraints. My head hurt all the way on the drive home due to the constant pinball game my head played with the restraints.

-Tatsu rocks. Although, I rate Manta just a tiny bit higher due to the fun run at the end of the ride by the waterfall and water swoop. Tatsu still blows all the vekoma flyers (Nighthawk/Firehawk) and Superman flyers out of the way.

-Scream holds up quite well. I get all the hate it gets for "parking lot coaster" but it's a fun ride. It holds up well as a direct clone of Medusa/Bizarro at Six Flags Great Adventure.

-Full Throttle seems cheap and not worth it. The money spent on that ride could've been put towards retracking on Apocalypse, painting Tatsu, and the ridiculous maintenance budget that X2 has.

I enjoyed myself but the overall visit disappointed me.

My friends used to trick new riders into standing on their toes on Riddler's Revenge until the seat locked. I never fell for it.

I went to MM once when I was at in LA for E3, and I did not like it...

Most the rides were not operational, and the overall appearance of the park was blah, plus the clientele inside the park were less than desirable... All day, all I saw were arguments between people about cutting, or accidental bumping... just enjoy the fucking day...

Reading the europe one. Holy fuck, Port Aventura dropped the ball from the high years. Fuck them, those italian investors destroying the park deserve the worst and more.

Holy shit, this is even worse than your typical day on a spanish theme park in off season.

So, I'm in LA for E3 and decided to hit up Disneyland today. Here are some quick impressions.

- Radiator Springs is just amazing. The level of detail that went into that section of DCA is insane.

- Radiator Springs Racer was an amazing E-ticket attraction. When I made it to the ride, the wait was 95 minutes, but thanks to Single Rider, it was just 5.

Funny story while waiting, a guy and his girl were on the single rider line and when it was there turn, the CM put her in Row 1, and then her bf starts walking with her. The CM says sorry, you're in the single rider line, and the guy was all annoyed and kept asking to ride with his gf. Finally the next set of cars show up and he tells the guy to go to Row 8. Ha Ha Ha. Not only did the guy have to split from his gf, but the CM put them on opposite sides of the loading area.

- Luigis tire ride is abysmal!! What a waste.

- Pirates is better in DL

- Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!! ( Still mad that WDW got rid of this ride)

- Matterhorn broke my back, but at least their yeti moves. :)

- Roger Rabbit had a 45min wait at 8:15pm. I was just about to the loading area and the ride went down.

- Big Thunder. Fun. Like the new effects on the final lift hill, and I think it's faster than the one in WDW.

- Innoventions is lucky they have Iron Man on display. The place was dead.

Overall, a nice day trip to DCA and DL.

Part of my LA trip involved DL and DCA. All the attractions are better in DL/DCA. The only downside about DL/DCA are narrow pathways and EPCOT still remains located in Orlando.

Innoventions is always dead. Did you stay for World of Color/Fantasmic?

Roger Rabbit's FP is disconnected from the rest of the system so you can grab that and another FP elsewhere usually. The high concentration of rides will often allow them to disconnect one or even two rides depending on the season, but Roger's is always disconnected it seems.

Luigi's is meh but I sometimes get on with my pals within the last hour of park opening and hilarity ensues when one of us gets pinned in a corner by all the empty tires.

I guess the Cap meet & greet is over?

WDW: RNR, Everest, slightly better Jungle Cruise, slightly better Haunted Mansion, slightly better Splash Mountain, New Fantasyland, World Showcase, Polynesian Resort.

DL: Literally everything else, weather, direct flight into LAX.

I think we'll be spending a lot more time out West in the future.

I had a FP for WoC, but I was so exhausted I couldn't make my way back to DCA to watch it, so I just watched the fireworks over the castle and then left.

In what way was DL pirates better than WDW pirates? I haven't been on WDW pirates in a loooong time so DL pirates is pretty much all I know

Much longer of a ride, more set pieces in the beginning of ride, double drops.

These echo my thoughts as well.

The only classic Disney attraction which was better, that I forgot to mention, is the Haunted Mansion. I hear the DLP version is the best.

I didn't get a chance to go on Jungle Cruise. Usually the skipper makes or breaks the ride. I preferred Splash at Disneyland due to how wet you get compared to the Orlando version.

Only major difference on JC is the Temple Ruins at WDW.

I've had great skippers at both for sure though. It does seem like WDW's tend to stick to the script more closely than DL.

The Haunted Mansion is WDW is slighty better for a couple of reasons. One, the exterior conveys a haunted house. The DL version just looks like a plantation home. The ride itself is almost identical except at the end with the hitchhiking ghosts. The WDW version is brand new, and the ghosts actually interact with you. Oh, and the queue in FL was just upgraded to include various hands on tombstones which is a nice distraction if there is a long line.

Yes, the WDW takes a slight edge over the DL JC because of the temple. Other than that, it is definitely the same ride, give or take a bad skipper.

The ghosts interact? That sounds awesome! How do they interact? I only knew about the gargoyles in the stretching room telling you to get out if insist on lagging behind.

Yeah the exterior in DL is plantation-style likely because of it being located in New Orleans Square. The last time I went to WDW, the mansion was down for refurb.

They've started updating?! Do we have any news on Hollywood/Orlando themes this year?
Not much info yet, still early. Walking Dead is confirmed again though, at least for a house. Hopefully they ditch that for the theme. You'll start seeing more info here beginning of July.

HHN and Knott's Halloween Haunt are two of my favorite events of the year.

No, I dont think it opened yet...
They had a whole ceremony and all with our former mayor and people in giant Hershey Kisses costumes.

I gave New York New York a call and they told me they officially opened on the 3rd.

Edit: Also the article mentions the ride, and this Hershey's Chocolate World doesn't have that.... yet. There's also the entrance to HCW on the inside of NYNY and maybe that outside part could be additional construction for the ride itself. However, the operator insisted they were open to the public on the 3rd and told me that they were actually open a couple days prior to that.

Yup, they were open to the public on May 30th.

http://www.vegaschatter.com/tag/Hershey's Chocolate World

The article you cited provided the wrong map of the HCW and information (since there is no ride version here). Guy in the comments section of article corrects them and also provides a link to the opening and what they saw.

If they're going to Frozen out Norway they need to do it right.

What happened to the Mexico ride is a travesty of halfassedness.

The parks need less Disney characters! UGH! It's bad enough Tomorrowland met the same fate at all the parks. Don't pollute the best part of EPCOT (best part of The Walt Disney World Resort) with merchandise sales stuff.

I love me some Living with the Land. Probably one of my favorite rides there now that others have been overhauled into relative mediocrity.

Hopefully a Frozen redesign isn't a slapdash skin like Mexico.

My favorite and least-butchered attraction in the park. Hopefully making it Tier 1 won't increase the line too much.

Yeah. I think by the time most people are on their 4th and rolling FPs, Living with the Land will be closed. FP won't likely be relevant at all to Living with the Land which is fine, I love it too. We were there a couple weeks ago and always carried a FP+ for the Land but the lines never seems too bad, but then again, no tier 2 at Epcot ever is.

The greens and whatever else they're able to source from the Land taste so good because of the way they grow their crops.

It really is. It used to be a little boring, but kind of zen. I liked it, even as a kid. Now it's just annoying.

And I agree that characters should never have been brought into Epcot at all. Nemo, Caballeros, ugh.

Blame the Suits at Team Disney Orlando. Their lack of understanding reaches back to just after Mission Space opened. Then a few people with pre-existing heart conditions ride Mission Space, pass away due to said conditions, and the Mickey Mousification of EPCOT began in hopes that people would still want to come despite freak deaths.

Now we're at the point that they'll use EPCOT in order to promote any sort of merchandise, movie, or similar media product.

Get EPCOT back to its original purpose. I'd argue that EPCOT needs a 1 billion dollar facelift in vein of what happened to DCA.

Yeah, it was a really relaxing ride like LwtL, now it's pretty much the opposite with Donald's voice screeching throughout.

Is epcot good for kids? We skipped it but I had so much fun as a kid, I was hoping to get my kids there.

Absolutely, but how old? There is stuff good for the young ones, the older ones and stuff for everyone. Test Track is awesome as is Mission Space (recommend green, orange makes me ill) and Soarin. The little ones can do Imagination, Turtle talk and Captain Nemo!

There is plenty to do for all, especially kids. Stay for the Illuminations show at night and make dinner reservations in advance for the world pavilion. Mexican, Japanese and Moroccan are all good.
