Let us not pretend that historically China is the sole (or necessarily biggest) culprit to blame for centuries of poaching/hunting.
It is indeed important to remember that there are many culprits that have caused population of many wonderful species to plummet over the past centuries.

I think the persons wanting the pseudo-medicines are the biggest culprits at the moment. But you are absolutely right that this whole situation is the fault of a lot of parties from about all continents.

Yup. Britain, Portugal, France, and to a lesser degree several other European countries really did a number on Africa. They demanded ivory for luxuries such as piano keys and billiard balls, using African slaves to kill and claim for it. Then later a bunch of rich white men decided it'd be cool to go on hunts so thus began that industry, which Americans are probably the current largest customer of.

I hate to say it, but it's the year 2015. Buy something from the fucking dollar menu if your excuse is that you'll eat the animal.
If it's not about survival, then there's no real excuse for hunting.
Population control is only an issue because of human incompetence. Put up some serious fences and scarecrows if the problem is they're getting into our space.. Humans don't need to be policing natural selection. Let that shit be and strive to leave wild spaces as they are.

Are these even Northern White Rhinos? I don't think so. I'm certainly not an expert but is this really relevant? Have American luxury hunters been an issue for this particular species? There's been less than 15 in the wild for the past like 30 or 40 years.

It's relevant because clearly they were hunted for sport.
You can have your own opinion on that, but I think it's pretty despicable. Look how they're posing with it like they're old chums. Reverse the roles. Imagine there were Rhinos that could come after and hunt these assholes, then do a chummy pose with their dead bodies. They probably wouldn't be keen on that thought.

I hunt deer,bear,elk,boar,gator and coyotes. The only thing I don't eat is coyote, those fuckers are bastards. Frankly wild game is more humane than farm raised food. You can eat your veal that spent its entire life in a box, I'll settle for back straps off a deer that has lived a full life free.
It's not like most of the hunters kill for fun. They are poor and have a family to take care of. If you have to shoot a rhino to feed your children, you do it.

A huge percentage of animals hunted to extinction were not killed because of their starving families, but because they were greedy and didn't give a shit about killing intelligent, living beings for material gain.

Very sad but expected. Might as well get used to Megafauna in Africa becoming extinct. With the population of the continent set to quadruple by the end of this century (from 1 billion people to 4) as well as Eastern Medicine and the continued increase of wealthy people that believe in that crap, the mega fauna of Africa will spend it's remaining days in Zoos or maybe Wildlife sanctuaries, if they aren't ransacked by then.
I find it Ironic in a way that the last continent on Earth to still have land dwelling (Russia as well) Mega Fauna will be North America. In Canada most of the large mammals have been adding to their populations for the last 20 years.

At least poachers didn't get their horns. Their horns were sawn off, to prevent them from being targets for poachers actually. It's horrible but...it's all they could do. Fuck I hate poachers so much.

"Sport" (lol) hunters are really the least of the problems here. Asian countries driving up demand for the magical properties of parts of these animals is the key driver. And human greed obviously, but that goes without saying.
I prefer grilling.
It's the same thing.
