They're never gonna make another Darkstalkers

I know it's not Darkstalkers, but Guilty Gear Strive scratches that itch for me. Excellent 1 on 1 fighter, back to the basics of hits that hit hard, no stupidly long combos based on "crouch + weak" openers, excellent varied cast that does feel a bit like Darkstalkers.

The issue with another 2D fighter from Capcom is that it will compete against Street Fighter.

It's too niche and Capcom DO NOT wanna take a single fucking risk ever. A treasure trove of amazing IPs and they just shit out the same four IPs over and over.

Nope. They're just guest characters/outfits now.

Wouldn't mind if they did a smaller budget game with some/all of the cast though. Like a 2d action side scroller or something.

It's such a shame it's being treated so badly by Capcom.I personally find the characters in Darkstalkers ooze waaay more personality than shoto fighter 600...

Too niche? Wasn't it so popular that they made a cartoon , manga, toys, and movie about it? .. then nothing.

The Night Warriors on Dreamcast was awesome. Well, everything Capcom released on Dreamcast was exceptional. Still waiting for a Spawn: The Demons Hand remaster/remake.

Fighting games right now are all about being supported for years, or even a decade.

And even though I adore Darkstalkers, and would cry if a new one was announced, for Capcom I don't believe that game has the staying power, today. It has been away for too long (Besides that wonderful collection, and appearances in Vs games).

Which is different from a game like Garou: Mark of the Wolves (Fatal Fury series) for example. That one also has been away for a long time.
But a couple of it's characters were kept alive and in the spotlight by King of Fighters. You could totally say that Rock Howard and Not-Tizoc are apart of King of Fighters too.

Which is not the case with Darkstalkers... There hasn't been a Vs game in a while, and the last one was badly received.

And like people have mentioned here already, back in the 90s, Capcom took a lot of risks. Street Fighter 3 New Generation's roster (And even Third Strike's roster) is a great example. CYBERBOTS, is a great example.

Capcom is very VERY safe right now. That doesn't mean they aren't putting out good games, they are. But they are safe bets. And Darkstalkers is not a safe bet.

Anyway, we will probably never a get a new Darkstalkers. Or if we are, it will be a big surprise.

I want to see this character again, man...

I bet they don't want to lose a lot of money. It may be awesome, but awesome doesn't always pay the bills. I bought the HD version back on PS3, the PSP port on PSN, and most recently the fighting collection. It would be nice to have something new. Maybe a better MvC with more Darkstalkers characters.

If they kept with the 2d sprites and made a new one that was downloadable only like the newest mega man im sure they could actually make abit of money, i still play darkstalkers on capcom fighting bundle and theres still a pretty good player base that still plays it, imo it was capcoms best fighting game series and really paved the way to there greatest game of all time, marvel vs capcom 2

Too risky now for companies to spend resources on something that isn't very popular. But, there are plenty of people making MUGEN based fighting games with the characters. Here's one that's Darkstalkers Vs Street Fighter

Yes, and it's really tough to support two fighting games for years, and it splits the user base. Capcom would ideally want all their fighting game fans on one fighting game. This is probably why Soul Calibur has seemingly fallen off the face of the earth. You are more likely to see Darkstalkers characters added to SF6, which, please?

I can't look at the action, I am hypnotized by the super bars blinking.

Totally. Financially too for them, is not good or advantageous.

Fuck, Soul Calibur 😔...

Yeah, which sucks because SNK, Namco and Capcom (and others equally as great) have gems.

Capcom has Darkstalkers and Rival Schools, Namco has Soul Calibur, SNK has The Last Blade and Buriki One.

But it's not viable with the way fighting games are right now, to develop them.

If Street Fighter 6 will add weirdos to the cast in future (I doubt it), then there's hope...

Twelve, Necro, Seth (Specially SF5 Seth), and arguably Blanka, are all weirdos that would fit perfectly in Darkstalkers.

If they will be there (Blanka is), there's no reason for Morrigan, Jedah, or Felicia to not appear.

Sadly, no.

Imagine being me…
My favourites fighting games are darkstalker/vampire, Killer instinct (2013) and virtua fighters 4/5. 🥺

Maybe there's hope for virtua fighters , maybe.
