What game convinced you to never buy another game on release again?

I only buy day one when there is a free, no-strings-attached demo that precedes it and I like it enough to want to play a full game. Alone in the Dark, Lies of P, and Tekken 8 did that for me. I do not regret those one iota. Nothing on the horizon on that front so I am in the clear. Never have been a huge day one enthusiast.

Alone in the Dark? The 360 remake?

You didn't regret that purchase?

Dragon's dogma 2. I usually don't buy games at launch, so it's not one of the worst cases. And the game wasn't bad, but it was just so much buggier and with shittier framerate

I may be dating myself but I pre-ordered Spider-Man 3 from Best Buy after IGN raved about it in their preview.
It was the only way to get the Goblin playable character so I said what the heck.
Never again.

I'll still buy day one for the big hitters (Rockstar) but will wait for anything else.

I must have been lucky, I don't ever recall buying a game that was broken on launch.

I must say that I have been mostly playing Sony's SP games for a while (but not exclusively).

I don't play CoD and other GaaS type games.

After ff15 i should have known that modern square was beyond fucked but i was still idiot enough to buy the disgusting remilk part 1 and the mid ff16 at launch, no more square games at day one for the foreseeable future.

There was no one that was so bad it made me stop..
what made me stop buying games day one was the new reality that it's digital and they will not run out.. It's rare for a game to make me want to jump in on day one.. I'll get it when I get around to it.. and by then I'll have been given lots of feedback by other people who got it day one.

Wasn’t the DLC post-release?

The release like a lot of Bethesda Softworks games since was utter Dogshit.
Everything was buggy beyond comprehension and it barely ran on the machine of the times.

The DLC was the cherry on top.

This is the first AAA that I can remember that sold really well while being very disrespectful to the player base.
So it open the gates for further abuse.

FIFA 99

I bought Fifa 98 and it was incredible, spent hundreds hours in it and loved it. So obviously bought FIFA 99 once I put the disk I was extremely shocked how lazy it was, it was just Fifa 98 with new music in the menu, I swore put it back to the store, and swore to never buy another Fifa again.

I was tricked into buying Metaphor: Refantazio because everyone kept hyping up the demo as the second coming of Christ.

Now I'm pretty sure this was some massive astroturfing and viral marketing, because that game is incredibly mediocre by Atlus standards. 90% of the game is dialogue and the plot/world is incredibly bland, the characters have 0 personality, and the gameplay isn't remarkable. SMT and Persona did it way better. No wonder that the game has basically been forgotten compared to Persona which is still talked about.

I played a demo and wasn't impressed at all.

Destiny. I actually preordered it, thinking it would be a fleshed out campaign.

I didn't even know what GaaS was at that stage. I felt like a rube.
Hay I pre-ordered the ghost edition.
