I’ve Never…

I don't have to confess shit. None of my acts of righteous judgement towards the games I've played are a sin. They are the punishment for the sins those games have committed and the proof that most of you have a horrible taste in video games.

I will never understand the allure for Soulsbourne games, they get a free pass for having shit visuals, story
Yep - because the gameplay loops are so good and addicting for a certain type of player. I don't need pretty visuals or a deep story when there's a scary big bad in some dungeon just waiting for me to come find it.

& the gameplay loop has literally been the same since 2009.

Nope. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, sure. But Bloodbore had a very different feel to it and Sekiro was way different from any of their previous games. Elden Ring does play like Dark Souls, but the exploration and huge environments give it a different vibe.

I never ever understood the hero worship of Phil Spencer - He was head of their first party during the worst period of Xbox first party EVER. Why would he do better once he got promoted?!

I never finished any final fantasy, because I think all the ones I tried were genuinely awful games, and some of the worst RPGs I've ever played... all off them for different reasons

The only three FF games I have liked and finished are FF7, 9, and Tactics.

I only got into Silent Hill when 2 Remake came out.

I was a filthy casual on Super NES so only played NBA Jam, SF2, MK, etc, and missed out on RPGs back then

I see my self as a winner,
I stopped wasting my time with that dog shit IP.

Final Fantasy is genuinely so bad that it gave me a really bad first impression of the entire JRPG genre, as FF was my first point of contact (outside of Pokemon, but Pokemon is like it's own subgenre almost)

I avoided the genre for the longest time, until I played other franchises that showed me that JRPGs can actually be good!

I will never understand what's fun about games like Diablo….it looks so unfun to me, from combat to loot system.

For me, it was the age(14-15) I was at the time. Back in '96. The dark atmosphere, the ambient noises, the music, and even the graphics for its time. The fireball effects hitting the walls. Plus it was my first RPG so the dopamine hit of acquiring gear and leveling up stats, and finding skill books all culminated into a literal drug lol.

We'd have forum meet-ups back in the day, choose a pub and agree to meet-up. Good times.
Yeah, adults with common interests meeting up and hanging out.
Nothing creepy about that until someone whips out the chloroform. 🤷‍♂️

- I've never played more then an hour of any Mario game, apart from Mario RPG.
- I've never played any NDS/3DS games ever. So when I finally get my hands on a dual-screen device I'll be eating good for years.
- I've never played any of the DMC games.
- I've never had a RTS game click with me, but would like to give Warcraft III a whirl one day.
- I've never enjoyed any 3D platformer collectathon games, a bit overlap with Mario here.

Forgive me oh merciful Gamer-God, for my transgressions.

I've never been good enough at souls games to beat bosses without over leveling the heck out of my character, but damn I love the Souls and Bloodborne games.

Nothing comes to mind, except maybe.. I wish I hadn't finished Final Fantasy XII. It was such a waste of time. I would like to get my 200 hours back.

But it's not what you're asking. I think I did everything I wanted to.

I realized that I have no backbone when it comes to standing up against things I do not like in gaming or from gaming companies. Everything I disliked and fought against in gaming has come true and I have joined right in.

/off to send a phone dev a microtransaction for a monthly perk. *not kidding* FARM RPG It is an awesome time killer at work. It doesn't require enough time to be burdensome and provides enough entertainment to check in a few times a day. 🤷‍♂️

I have never played Minecraft (and let's keep it that way)

edit: I'm talking minecraft minecraft, not Dungeons, Legends or the Telltale series

Inspired by @rofif admitting he's never played MGS3 or 1… I figured it would be fun to admit some heinous acts you know are cardinal gaming sins.

I'll start with:
-Never completed half life 1 or 2
-Never played more than a hour of any 2D Metroid
-Never played the original Deus Ex or System Shock

Confessions complete for now.
Ditto on all three! Although, got Black Mesa and the System Shock remake off Steam sales recently for the Deck, so one day. One day.

(or they'll just remain in my ever-growing backlog, that's a completely feasible possibility as well)

I've never… thought Monster Hunter was a good franchise. The core gameplay loop just has zero appeal to me:

  • Find monster based on clues/tracking (this is ok)
  • Attack monster. No health bar or indication of attack efficacy
  • Monster runs away
  • Chase monster (through loading screens on the older games!)
  • Flail on monster some more
  • Chase monster again
  • Finally kill monster

??? For a long time I thought I was just missing something, but no.

Also, I've never thought Smash was a good fighting game.

It's more of a thread where you think on this board things like everyone has played half life, gotten a platinum trophy or 1000/1000 achievement points on a game, etc.

Like some people have posted never playing halo or a souls game etc.

As a teenager, I didn't care being younger than 17 and playing mature game on ps2. It made sense to me and I didn't want to miss any of them at their prime time before they age.
