Have you tried the fan edit? Or the three part series? (And it and the book's sequel?) Or reeding the book?

I'll be honest, I struggle reading, so reading names and places that I cant pronounce, or struggle too, starts to confuse me reading, and get frustrated. I learnt to read quite late, or even have an interest

Why I can't read LotR, too many names and places I can't read. I could make it up, but I forget what I made them up as lol, so the story becomes very confusing, very quickly

I'll give the fan edit ago, where can I see this?

Googling "dune fan edit" does the trick and it appears to be available on youtube.
i dunno which ones u guys are taking out but can i just say that, after reading dune and dune messiah and thoroughly enjoying them (and maybe the next one), i watched the dune film with Agent Dale Cooper in it and, although it looked wacky, it was totally in line with how i visualized all the tech in my head, it was like the director went in my head, many years in the future, and extracted how those personal shield things look... it also covered a really huge chunk of the plot features, rather than skipping over shit... u gotta read the books i guess to really get it, but if u do, it's awesome. just my "ho". I.e. imho.

Been a long time since I saw Dune, the one I saw was the 1984 version, blurred in memory mere dust in a memory hole. Also liked the psx rts dune game, played just a bit.

But from the glimpses I've gathered, deep meaning about the nature of reality exists within the work, a reflection of our world.

The 1984 movie and it's fan edit ("it draws on the heavily cut Theatrical Version, the controversial Extended “TV” Version and a selection of Deleted Scenes and soundtrack cues.") I quite enjoyed the movie, but understand people's complaints about it. (If only we got "Alejandro Jodorowsky's Dune" :( )

i'd agree with that, there was something gothic about that sci-fi novel, a real grit and 'otherworld' feel to it that elevated it onto it's own plateau... imo... yeah that film captured it pretty damn well... imo.

Things that get high praise that I just don't get...

Atheism
Colleges/Universities
Doctors (see Teachers...)
Lots of people in executive positions

Teachers…

Don’t get me wrong, a good teacher is an amazing thing. But most teachers kind of suck, in my experience. The good ones are few and far between. And between them are mediocre people who are there for the paycheck, the weekends/summers off, and the benefits/pension. Not that that’s any different from most other professions. Other professions are not lionized like teachers, however.

We treat them almost like victims of society. Underpaid, undervalued, overworked, etc. That might be true in low income areas. Where I’m from that is far from the case. When they go on strike, no one is willing to call them out for leveraging children’s well being to exact more money from tax payers. They retire with full benefits after 25 years like their job is so taxing you can’t do it after 50.

And you know what? That’s fine. But stop complaining so much and acting like you’re so under appreciated by society.

This feels thread-worthy. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of mediocre teachers, but do you know why you don't have more good ones? I believe there are two big reasons. The first is the pay is terrible for someone who is not only required to be in possession of a bachelor's degree but also has to continue education at their own expense. It's just terrible. And the other big reason there aren't more good teachers is the growing amount of interference from the state and the federal education departments that dictate how teachers are to teach and how their lesson plans are to be structured. From my understanding, they get all their lesson plans handed to them with some minimal amount of work they need to do to make them complete, and then they're to follow it. If the state says you're going to teach children how to spell by spelling all the words backwards, then that's what you do. This is also terrible.

Bob Odenkirk...

I mean look at all the knob gobblers in that other thread! Capital Oooooof! What has he really done? Nothin' for nobody!

JK bro JK, glad it sounds like he's gonna be ok.

Most of it is garbage and I don’t get the appeal. Video games are different because I’m in control, solve problems, adapt and overcome. Also:

Hard alcohol
Dogs
Linux
Babies

So no music is attached to a memory or feeling?
I’ve gotten emotional from songs. I’m not very sentimental in general, though.

I should mention that much of this started as I got older. I used to watch movies and television as a kid. I think a lot of it is that the recent brainwashing by the entertainment industry drives me crazy.

Don't mean to sound weird, or condescending, I just find that whole concept, completely alien to my personality, to the point I just have to reject it.

Sorry, I guess most of my personality revolves around music in one way or another

People think vastly different from one another. For instance, my dad can’t visualize pictures in his head despite being an engineer. Can‘t do it. He dreams in sounds. While my sister sees so clearly and remembers so vividly that she can tell you what someone was wearing at a party 20 years ago.

Harry Potter.

Im into all things nerdy and fantasy but I can’t seem to understand why they’re so loved….

I think me and my son are on like the 5th or 6th movie but they’re doing nothing for me. I though for sure I’d love them because I wanted another long series with character growth etc. No scenes or specific moments ring a bell to me thinking back at the ones I’ve watched. They just seem like a bunch of scenes mashed together. The feel very messy.

Christ we would not get along at all. Music is my peace, my daughter is my love, and animals in general are my constant comfort. I'll agree with the television though, mostly just mindless drivel, and I don't care for booze anymore, never tried Linux so can't speak to it, but everything else is just essential to me.

Hell I want another baby, but it takes two to tango and the wife ain't interested :/.

Joe Rogan.

How did this chump make his money? He's not funny, he's not a good interviewer..... he's just some fella. Really don't get the appeal.
He is really good a letting people talk and tell their story. He doesn't ask divisive question that puts him In conflict with his interviewees.

This style of blandness is actually quite rare for big platforms. But the major difference for me is that he is quite a good listener most of the time.

What the F does it even mean.
If you have been around kids for any amount of time, people should know there is no such thing as "relaxed parenting".

I think he means, just letting their kids do whatever they want, and not punishing them or keeping them under control (relaxed).........maybe?

Or worse use adhd or some other pointless medical reason as to why they're absolute little cunts, no you're just a shit parent and now you have a medical excuses as to why they're literally just a little arse hole, no its your fault as a parent

I mean. If you are not stressed out as a parent about how your kids behave and what they do, then you are doing something wrong.

Really, that has more to do with me basically being born a eunuch. I'm happy for those that enjoy it. :)

Races. Nothing better than some Tour de France / F1 GP on TV after lunch on a Sunday to get me dozing off in a matter of minutes.

Overeating / getting drunk. The cons far outweigh the pleasure.

Spirits. Almost all of them just taste like pure alcohol, and I don’t know what’s so enjoyable in having a fire in your throat if it doesn’t even taste like it’s worth it.
