Things you notice watching Sports with no fans

This comes from watching hockey.

- BLM videos were only done for game 1 of each series
- The arena guy still plays crowd cheers when a goal is scored
- You can definitely hear the players, skates and on-ice sound effects more
- There's something borked with the on screen timer and actual game time. They don't seem to be synced well all the time, so something weird is going on. The horn goes and the timer can still be going. One time the horn went off and the tv timer still had 10 seconds counting down! First time ever seeing that
- There's been some injuries. Muzzin got injured and there must have been 15 minutes of med staff coming out. It was dead silent except for the commentators. Eeerily quiet. The commentators even said that as everyone was watching a guy on the ice with a stretcher
- The arenas put up these giant LED screens above the covered seats showing flashy images
- With the platinum seats covered with blue tarps in Leafs arena, it doesn't even look like the Leafs arena. For the Edmonton games, the ads on the boards are for national broadcasts so now you get side board ads that are US focused like MSNBC, Discover credit cards and Dunkin Donuts!
- When teams score, the music and goal horns for either team play, even though one team is supposedly still "at home"
- The first few games were weird with no crowd, but now I'm starting to like it

The caught the last couple of games of the premier league and it’s definitely different without the fans, it felt like watching a Sunday morning match of lads & dads.

Baseball and UFC works pretty well. I am not watching the NBA because I’m not interested in nonstop left wing propaganda.

I wonder what it's like for the players. I'd imagine it's a lot less hype and like you're just playing scrimmage games every day. I think hockey is one of the best sports to watch during COVID because it's very fast paced. I notice the emptiness a lot more in other sports where there's a lot of standing around or breaks in play.

- People from the crowd don't get to react to "End Racism" kneeling. I bet they'd be real "popular" with some of the fans like in Hungary. ;)
- Current F1 cars sound better than when the hybrid engines were introduced.
- Podium celebrations definitely lack celebrating with the fans plus there was an idiotic gimmick in some of the lower classes involving RC cars delivering trophies.
- Commentators do a decent job of making people forget there are no crowds, but some of the grandstand covers are cringy.
- Zoom interactions with the fans are super cringy.
- Not enough people in the paddock, I enjoy watching paddock walks with Ted Kravitz or other F1 journalists. They still do them but it's not the same without people to interview or have awkward conversations with.

DEFINITELY feels less essential. The NBA games feel like a bunch of kids got together to play a pickup game in the park. The crowd way more atmosphere than I thought.
