This forum is lacking in its Jeff Buckley appreciation

As the "Legacy Edition" of Grace was recently released, I thought it appropriate to sing the praises of good ol' Jeff. Did anyone else pick up the Legacy edition btw? It's pretty fucking good. Here's a link for info on it - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002IRXFU/026-7324905-2915655

Along with a remastered Grace, it also contains a b sides cd, "Forget Her" being the best of the bunch...the alternate versions of Dream Brother are also fantastic. I've gotta say though, the b sides cd is, aside froma couple of gems, pretty average; interesting yeah, but it's pretty clear why most of it wasn't given a previous commercial release. The third disc in the legacy edition is a dvd with all of Buckley's videos, including Forget Her, and the making of Grace, which is pretty cool. As an side, in the making of there's a part where it shows Jeff moshing out in a record store to Cherub Rock. :D

Anyway, for those of you who haven't heard any Jeff Buckley, I suggest getting a hold of Last Goodbye, Grace, and Dream Brother. Or better yet buy the cd ffs, it's great.

I like Jeff Buckley, but his legacy gets less and less shiny the more I think about it.

Although Grace is a superb album...it's an uneven one. The in-progress material from My Sweetheart The Drunk was also wildly uneven, and nothing reached the heights of his only official release. Jeff was at his best when covering other people's songs, and at his worst when he was screwing around with different sounds just because he wanted to do something different (for example, the faux metal of "Eternal Life").

He might have matured into a great songwriter, or -- perhaps more likely -- would have only matured into a great interpreter.

For the Jeff Buckley-curious in the crowd, I'd recommend hitting your local record store and finding a used copy of Grace before spending full dollar on the newer release.
