Silent Hill 2 is in my top 3 favourite games of all time, I absolutely, truly, love that game. It's also a very unique game in that some of the elements that made it so great were not intentional and could not be replicated. Not even by Team Silent.
And it's also very much of its time, I think that survival horror as a genre is very dependent on the PS2 era. Not only did it absolutely peak back then, I just don't think it really works outside of that period.
All of this to say that I find it impossible for a remake of Silent Hill 2 to even come close to doing the original game justice. And Konami are just misguided in even trying. Not going to really blame them, because I don't have any expectations from a gaming company that has spent the last decade turning all of their historical IP into pachinko slop.
Not having any expectations for a project because of my lack of faith in the teams working on it would be a thing. But Blooper actually managing to STILL disappoint with this complete mess is a different matter.
Just like Blue Point remaking Demon's Souls, these guys just prove they don't understand the base game and continue to prove that they are, ultimately, incompetent at their jobs. They're just not good at what they're doing. They've proven this before, with literally every game they've ever made, and they continue to prove this.
I also want to acknowledge the fact that the brain rotten on neogaf are actually dumber than those on resetera, which is always a shame to see. Those guys are cultists, yes, but at least you get the feeling that they actually believe in their rot. The people here are just stupid. We have absolute morons in this thread with their "hurr durr now you can't fap to the character. cry about it" takes, despite also admitting they have never played the game.

Edit- my issues with bloober aren't the character models or gameplay, it's the god awful vocal direction. Bloober needs to reign in it because they take grief porn to new heights. It's so bad it makes their stuff nearly unplayable IMO. It's like an NPR podcast on steroids.
They have the subtlety of a Handmaid's Tale episode.

Hopefully this game has different languages for vocal tracks. I think playing with a foreign language and English subtitles is the only way I'll be able to make it through this game.
It definitely lent well to RE6, Italian voices is awesome in that game.

Man, my journey with Bloober Team goes back nearly 20 years at this point. One of the main reasons I'm so critical of them, lol. I cannot stress how hyped I was for Sadness.Nibris? Sadness?

And if you aren't familiar, Nibris was the original studio but they never released anything, Bloober Team branched off and actually started to make games. Playing The Medium and meeting the ghost girl named, 'Sadness', Blair Witch VR also retains some of the stuff that would have been in Sadness on Wii. I piece these things together but man, the mystery of Sadness is forever locked to vaporware and it kills me but also keeps me intrigued for whatever Bloober Team is working on. I truly hope they develop into the studio I've always expected them to be.

She was creepier before (probably not as intended, just the 90s cg, though maybe in SH it was intended as they all had a bit of the uncanny valley in the movements). Not really seeing her as more or less hot in either version, dunno what ya all are seeing. Lip syncing looks pretty bad in the remake.

Period syncing is based on the idea that when a bunch of menstruating folk live together for long enough, their cycles coincide.
Straying a bit from the SH2 theme. I agree that many games are being affected by a worldview where women cannot be seen as weak or sexualized. This remake is living proof of that. The scene where Maria puts James's hand on her breast is more than enough. Her own clothes have changed a lot.
But I understand that we need a movement like this. If it were up to the average audience of sites like Neogaf, we would only have games with white men as protagonists, dumb and hot women and the occasional black person acting like an idiot.

I think this is impossible, AFAIK Konami lost the Master of the game and original code, that is why the SH collection is crap and the Voice over was redone.

Well, Jame's VA for the remake is a lot better, so that's a plus in the new version's favor.
Still think it was a mistake not to have the classic camera angles in the remake. Those fixed cameras were a character in themselves, and added to the element of horror and tension. They were also used very thematically to help frame pacing. You can't replicate that with third-person over the shoulder, no matter how good it is. Same issue I have with the modern remakes of RE2 & 3. These games should at least allow for the option to use the classic fixed camera angles.
A video from SSFF that (among other things) helps emphasize the importance of the fixed camera angles, and how they helped with pacing, framing, and tension in the original game:

Some of you need to replay the original like I did a week ago with the enhanced edition. Whoever says the original acting was better, had more soul, more fluid movements, you need a head check.
The OG dialogue is so flat for every single character. They move and run like cardboard boxes. Its still a great game but a game of its time when nobody would spend $40k on a voice actor. On top of that you are always using CGI cutscenes as a comparison. Why not use the gameplay one from the original than tell me how you see emotions in those stiff botox faces that barely move.
