This is how my Amazon shipped PS5 arrived

Meant to post this earlier but I was too enthralled with actually playing games...I pre-ordered the PS5back on Sept 16th in the middle of the night when the direct to cart links for Amazon started appearing on forums/twitter. I managed to secure a system, controller, charging station, and headphones all that night. Like many, I watched my order status go without updates for ages, until finally a week before shipping I got the launch day shipping update.

Day of launch I was refreshing my tracking page on UPS constantly. We had pretty heavy rain that week so I was worried about the water, so I even went into the UPS site and added a note to deliver the box to my covered side porch. The day was long, but late in the evening around 7pm my front doorbell rang. By the time I got to the door, the delivery guy had already ran back to his black SUV. and on my front door in the pouring rain was this box....

The entire bottom half of the box was drenched like it had sat in a puddle. If the SUV had not peeled out I probably would have killed them. The range of emotions was real. Somehow, after peeling away the floppy cardboard, the PS5 box inside was merely slightly damp. and the box inside the box was completely dry. My PS5 booted fine, and all was well. No issues since then, but goddamn man. I can't imagine the return process or replacement process would have been speedy or fun. Next launch I will probably opt for a big box store.

Shame the guy didn't stick around.

are we all acting shocked that delivery people don't give a fuck how your package arrives?

they are on shitty money and tight schedules. they don't give a fuck about babying your product bought my mummy + daddys money. they are out working their ass off while you sit at home waiting to play video games.

Yo, Amazon man......why did you leave his PS5 in the rain?

Next time don’t give special instructions. That’s probably why it looks like it does. Especially if you get a disgruntled worker!

Amazon “couriers” are the literal worst. Deliveries marked as made, nothing here. Notes say “Handed directly to customer” and I’ve NEVER met one at the door.

If that happened to me, I wouldn't accept it. The console would go back. No way I would accept a slightly damp PS5 box.

We receive over a hundred packages a year, easily. 90% of those are when nobody is home. I think we've lost one package in the last decade.
I've had three packages stolen from my property in the past 8 months alone, and that was when I was home. Different areas and all that. I got security cameras now, and even caught the people who stole my wife's bike, but the local police department said that, even with the footage, it wasn't enough evidence to secure an arrest....Washington is a shit hole sometimes.

Looks like someone was considering stealing it tbh OP. I’ve heard people getting their PS5 stolen from the warehouse, mainly fedex but still.

My brother has been a driver for UPS for 18 years now and he’s seen some of the worst deliveries ever. One driver was fired after improperly using a dolly to bring a generator up a flight of stairs. Rather than calling for nearby help from another driver, the loose straps on the dolly came undone, the generator went down the stairs, and the driver left it mangled at the bottom. Undelivered and broken.
I feel your pain OP. Glad your new purchase isn’t damaged.

You sound like a downright pussy feeling weak over boxes. Wonder how far you'll melt into your own scrotum when you see my fist.

*What I Actually Mean: "Let's make out"
Paying with your hard earned money and delivering a messed up box is not good.. To you maybe. Lol, your fists backed up by cigarettes arms... You should worry about me sticking my work boot all the way up your expansion slot.

The complete disregard for your items from these places is ridiculous sometimes. Should call Amazon and complain maybe you get a credit or something.

Amazon had really shitty posting services for a while now. It's crazy that they are getting away with it. I still remember how amazon.uk send me the collector's edition of The Last Guardian. They didn't even put it inside another package and actually placed all the address stickers upon the box of the collector's edition itself.

They just don't give a fuck anymore. Be thankful that they at least put it inside a box and didn't send it just with its own packaging.

With all the delivery nonsense that has gone on, no wonder there are damaged units getting to people....

I am sure a certain percentage is due to poor treatment during the delivery process. I would have collected mine in store previously and due to covid that obviously wasn't possible.

That's not Amazon's fault. It got fucked up at the carrier depot and they patched it up. Something probably leaked on it from a pallet or parcel above it. Normally the carrier would have sent it back to Amazon for them to replace, but since there are no replacements I'm guessing Amazon told them to forward it to you like that.

Sucks, but at least you have it.

When nobody's home usually the postman can leave a note (saying he'll pass again in date X at hour Y) or that, after a number of tries, you can collect the item in the nearest post office.

Leaving a package just... there, in the rain or for everyone to steal, is a problem that shouldn't even exist honestly.

That's how you get completely hysterical products like Amazon Key.

I find it strange how in some countries (including USA) you can have your package delivered without your actual signature. You're just asking for trouble in case your package gets damaged or stolen.
I imagine these decisions come from big companies' calculations on how much they can lose via damage/stolen packages, against how much they can gain by having as many packages delivered as soon as possible by their limited amount of drivers.

As someone who works in the "delivery industry", looks like your parcel was sitting on a "bad side of a pallet" sort of speak. Probably moved all round with whatever else was stacked on top, or below, outside in the rain. The box structurally collapsed due to water and they did their best to tape it and ship it. Yours is probably not the only one. That's my guess, can't say for sure, but I wouldn't be too mad at the guy delivering it. He knew how fucked up it was and didn't want to deal with an angry customer asking questions he couldn't answer. I'm glad it still works for you. I've seen far worse.

Those people will be in jail for a long time if they're caught. As someone who worked in a FedEx Warehouse, they do NOT mess around with that stuff and security is very tight.

You fucked up OP.

Should have sent Amazon support a picture of that package. Tell them you won't open the package because you are afraid the battery leaked.

Amazon would have refunded you + you would have kept the console.

Not as big of an issue but I had a similar issue with a collectible anime box set I bought arriving in a bubble mailer. The cardboard sleeve inside was all messed up which rubbed me the wrong way as a collector.

people hate GameStop but they tend to be one of the better packagers for collectible items/consoles (ones they hadn’t already opened at least). Might be worth extra money ordering from them and in my case, ordering from rightstuf
